Guys, i was employed mid of 2014. (Less than 183 days)

So for declaration of income tax, i will be charge a flat rate of 15%. Is my understanding correct?

Just started working for 4 months can get 20k? 5k per month? I not so "elite" lo sad.gif
Ya but i probably transfer just 1000~2000 each time. If that's the case, 10SGD = ~RM26, CIMB rate can be RM0.026 lower if I transfer 1000SGD yet still getting the same amount or can be RM0.013 lower if I transfer 2000SGD.

And it's done through bank so most probably safe. Yesterday when rate goes up to 2.65 I saw someone post on FB cimb giving 2.64XX.

So if that's the case probably I should consider opening CIMB account biggrin.gif
Btw... They always use Raffles? hmm.gif
*
Any link to check CIMB rate? Considering opening one too as i use my CIMB Msia acc for monthly commitments.

http://www.raffles1.net/contact.php

I always go to them, though for other currencies. Rate seems to be spot on and when Ringgit burst to >2.6 in Nov/Dec; 30 minutes queue!!

Hi, what was the rate you saw and at which day?

If it is better than money changer I think I will proceed to open an acc with cimb next week

I am considering the option of staying in nusajaya and take bus to boon lay everyday to work. Is it feasible? Appreciate your advice.

Depends on the lifestyle you want, I took bus from jurong east to gelang patah the other day. Whole process took me 90 minutes on non-peak hour. There are thousands of people doing that daily.

Avoid driving into the city / ERP

Tuas toll - $ 6.4 return

VEP - $ 35 per day, free 10 days per calender year

Parking - HDB season parking usually below $100 per month depends on location. I've purchased $65 at Commonwealth open car park

Guys. How much is considered high working in SG?

I believe there is some difference between how much fresh grad is getting paid in Msia and SG.

Let's say, if you have 1.5 years experience, Msia offering RM4800, SG offering (3600, no cpf so +632 = total 4232sgd), which one to go for?

malaysia = IT operations work, permanent staff
SG =  SAP implementation work, permanent staff + chance to travel.

imho go for SG offer.

i am not from IT background so i ignore the factor of 'prospect' in this.

1. You will earn almost the same ignoring currency exchange, unless you spend every single cent you earn then i am quite sure you will save more in Singapore.

2. It's true you will miss driving, time with your family and etc thus you need to balance out what you want in your life. Sometimes money is not everything. I travel almost every weekend back to KL.

3. I read 'chance to travel' as another opportunity that you will gain on travel allowance.

Thanks for the tips bro ... I have checked out the location of jurong and tampines and i know what you mean. But between Tuas checkpoint and Woodlands checkpoint, are the queuing and custom clearance time for both checkpoint is the same or woodlands have longer clearance period time due to more ppl going to woodlands? Because if Tuas has lesser queuing time, I would opt to stay nearer to Tuas. Hope you get what i mean.  smile.gif My worried is the clearance time on the custom checkpoint. Once in SG, I will be able figure on how to go around, I guess.... haha.  sweat.gif

I don't think there is mrt station at tuas checkpoint. Nearest I saw is Joo Koon (EW29). As for woodlands, the station would be woodlands (NS9) or Marsiling (NS8). This is only what my theory is of taking mrt if i am working in SG.  sweat.gif  The info is just a theory of how i think i would go with public transport in SG unless my working place will be far away from mrt.
*
If you take bus from gelang patah or bukit indah through tuas, bus will go drop you at Jurong east. I tried once and vow to never do it again If I can. The queue and amount of people doing it is just incredible.

Ultimately it depends on what sort of lifestyle you want.

CPF and Income Tax

- If you work 183 days or more in a calendar year you are a tax resident and pay the same progressive tax rates as locals.
- If you work less than 183 days you are not a tax resident and pay flat 15% tax or progressive tax rates as locals (whichever is higher). However the following year if your employment spills over into exceeding 183 days you can request IRAS to re-assess you as a tax resident and refund you the difference in tax paid.
- Visit IRAS website for more information on taxes.
- CPF (equivalent of our EPF) is only mandatory for PR's and SC's (Singapore Citizens) at 16% Employee, 20% Employer, capped at first $5k per month.
- Some companies will encash the employer portion for foreigners.
- Visit CPF Website for more information on CPF.

Dear All,

My scenario is that i only started working August 2014 and is still with the same company; wanting to file in for Year 2014.

My colleague informed me that although i worked for less than 183 days in year 2014, i am still with the same company thus i am considered as a tax resident and shall only pay progressive tax rate as locals; and not 15% flat rate.

She claimed that the flat 15% is only applicable if i left the company by working less than 6 months.

Please advise.

But IRAS site show otherwise;

Definition of Resident

If you are in Singapore for at least 183 days straddling two years

Under the two-year administrative concession, you will be regarded as a tax resident for two years if you stay or work in Singapore for a continuous period of at least 183 days. This concession applies to foreign employees (excludes directors of a company, public entertainers or professionals) who have entered Singapore from 1 Jan 2007.

Example:
You have stayed or worked in Singapore from 03 Nov 2013 to 07 May 2014. You will be taxed as a resident for Years of Assessment 2014 and 2015.

Year of Assessment Period of Stay (Inclusive of Work) in Singapore Resident Status
2014 03 Nov 2013 to 31 Dec 2013 (59 days) Resident
2015 01 Jan 2014 to 07 May 2014 (127 days) Resident
Total: 186 days

Try myrepublic

I believe they are doing promo where you can trial for 2 months. Free installation but you need to make sure your house if fiber ready (i.e. has port available)

They require you to pay $50 deposit and if you do not have a router, the cheapest asus model they are selling @ $99.

Well if you want to keep it, it's $49.99 per month. I'm near end of 2 months trial and they offer me another month free if i commit the full 24 months with them before the trial ends. So far i only paid $50 (deposit) + $99 (for router). Nothing else

They also offer contract-less option @ $69.99 per month.

Other than that M1 is quite famous with their 100mbps @ $29/month or 1gbps @ $39/month, both 24 months contract. You can check their web where they also offer discount if you sign a mobile line with them and additional 1gb data allocation to your mobile line.

The most important thing is to check if your house still have available fiber spot cause if not available you need to install which cost $200+.

Service wise i prefer myrepublic, it works great for me so far @ commonwealth. The reason i skip M1 is because they told me my fiber port are not available but no such issue with myrepublic.

Ya i did check on myrepublic and know that they offer 2 months free, but all their contracts are long and i'm not sure if i will stay that long in sg or not, so most likely can't stick with myrepublic.
The contractless is quite expensive at $70.

I'm more interested on M1 100Mbps 12months contract plan at $40 now as I don't really need that high speed.

The myrepublic, can i subscribe free 2 months trial then change to contractless $70?
And how to check if my place got available fiber spot? I just go to M1 or Myrepublic site and enter the address, and it said i'm eligible
*
Yes you can utilize the 2 months trial. Then cancel it. Don't think they allow you to convert like that. Maybe involve a cool off period.

Worst case use Myrepublic 2 months trial, cancel and subscribe to M1 for 12 months.

I think the port provider is netlink, you can call to check if your port is available. Normally if service provider says available its OK already. I remember singtel site can check also by key in postcode and unit number.
