Atas? Googled to find out what that means. Wasn't looking for atas on purpose. Just wanted a place to be able to walk to work and have good amenities.

hopefully can rent a nice hdb there, condo is out of budget at the moment.

If only have 3k budget for rent and work at biopolis. Any other better place to live?

Soon will be working at biopolis. Planning to bring wife and 2 kids there. Thinking of staying at Holland village area. Any pros and cons for this area?

HV is like Damansara in Klang Valley, a lot of ang-moh and the food establishments there are more towards bistros and pubs.
There is food court but variety is limited, and due to location the rental is pretty high. Just a reference rental in Commonwealth for a 2-bedroom HDB is already $2.5k per month, HV will be close to $3k.

Biopolis is quite near to Buona Vista MRT (walking distance around 10 minutes), you can in fact rent a house anywhere along the Green or Yellow MRT line.
Telok Bangla is ideal. smile.gif

Can try Commenwealth area, i'm staying behind Commenwealth MRT (about 10 mins walk) / 2 bus stop away from the MRT.

$2200/month for a fully furnished 2 bedder but without attached toilet.

For a whole unit it is not unreasonable. 6 years ago I was paying $1.9k for 2-rooms flat at Commonwealth.

And converting to RM is pointless. RM4,000 for an iPhone? That's absurd to almost every possible level.

Thanks for the suggestions. Actually was looking for some place like Setapak in Klang Valley. Is Jurong East ok? Condo like Ivory Height/Westmere is within walking distance to green line MRT.

You must have never stayed in developed countries before. Spending 30% up to 50% of your income for rental is common in cities like Singapore, London, Hong Kong...

Last time as student my scholarship is 550 pound per month, but I have to spend 300 pound per month for my room rental - exclude utilities.

Anything less than 20%, then you really are sacrificing a lot of your comfort. If you have dependents staying with you, you won't care about saving for rental

Never stay at KL before so don't know how Setapak look like leh. Jurong East should be ok got shopping complex got hospital. But it is coming up as a new township so rental would be going up steadily. Jurong East like not a lot of housing around it too. Common folks mostly stay a bit further up, Lakeside, Chinese Garden like more housing. Avoid Boon Lay if possible, too crowded with FTs and the air smell like industrial gas. Can PM our resident estate tycoon sgrealestate for recommendation.

So sad right. Mean those people are mostly underpaid. How can one give up 30% to 50% for rental. Something wrong with those greedy landlords hogging few units each and still keep buying like no people business. Should have AABSD introduce ASAP follow by AAABSD. Lucky I got sugar dad can stay for free wub.gif .

I'm not familiar with condos but most condos are quite a distance from MRTs. Don't look at just Google Maps, walking distance is one thing but distance to amenities, food courts, clinics need to be considered since you will be bringing your kids and wife.

Bro this is so wrong. If one spends 50% of his income on rentals in foreign country he might as well not work abroad. Say S$2k salary and spend S$1k on rental? That's unbelievable.
No doubt room rental is one of the highest expenses when we work in Singapore, do consider the possibility of getting a roommate to share your rentals if your salary is not that high.

Honestly speaking if you do not have a family in Singapore, the only thing you do at home is bath and sleep.
Some of my friend even rented a room in condos for S$1k per month with reason they want to enjoy swimming and gym. doh.gif

JE is growing as the KL - Singapore rail is suppose to be there. The thing about Singapore is that even if an area is not walking distance from MRT, you have bus to compensate for that. If you die die want beside MRT, look at those rental site lo. They have the function to set how far you want your property to be away from the MRT. I believe there is quite a few for green line towards Jurong in stations like Clementi, Chinese Garden & Lakeside.

Note that JE is the interchange with Red line thus in the morning / after work you are expected to be sardine fish.

I used to stay in Jurong (Corporation Road), takes about 30 mins to get to Commenwealth via bus + MRT. Now i just walk biggrin.gif

You just need to widen your social net. If you can't properly click with your colleagues then try find some other circles. For starters, this J&C thread got a whatsapp group where some older members meet up regularly to play badminton, yumcha, dinner, holiday, talk k0k, etc. PM MacKiddo or Lester1987 if you interested in giving it a shot.

haha, same here..joined m&e during intern, now also in the circle
Took me 4 yrs to find that engineering is not my cup of tea..
anyway, good thing about engineering is that you are free to go any fields and still widely accepted, accept some extreme cases such as law or doctor.

since you have fulfilled your dream, then maybe is time to move on.
btw faster get your PR n MOM cannot involve ad lo.
*
Another sad engineer thread, haha.. totally feel you guys here, i myself is another poor noobfaq engineer.. unlike Malaysia it's kinda difficult to change industry in Singapore sweat.gif
Study so hard, work so hard and clocking long hours just to get more headache everyday haha laugh.gif

Now I am seriously considering to get a postgrad and try to enter a different field or just wait for sg pr approval as a contingency and move my ass to aussie.
