Yup just install it and u can upgrade it to windows 10
QUOTE(tommyfai @ Jul 30 2015, 09:14 AM)
just download iso from the official website and offline upgrade.. i do it this way instead of waiting for the crappy logo.. i upgrade yesterday and activated.. so far no problem.
so I can just upgrade to windows 10 using the ISO then if I want to do clean install just use back the windows 7 cd key in order to activate windows 10 ?
QUOTE(Rei7 @ Jul 30 2015, 09:38 AM)
You have to upgrade first before you can clean install, if you wanna do that. I asked Microsoft support and they said you can use the W7 or W8 keys for W10 if you wanna clean install later.
You can also revert back to the old Windows if you didn't like 10. But the option is only available for one month in settings.
either 7/8/8.1 upgrade to 10 either using windows update / ISO then clean install using 7/8/8.1 cd key to activate windows 10 ?
QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Jul 30 2015, 02:27 PM)
Mount the iso in your current windows, then click setup.exe in the mounted iso and let the upgrade process to complete before clean install.
so just extract the ISO using 7-zip > open setup.exe > run it and choose upgrade once finish run then can do clean install by using windows 7/8/8.1 cd key to activate windows 10 right ?

you cannot use the windows 7 product key to activate the windows 10. Just use the iso tfrom microsoft to upgrade and it will be activated automatically if u connect to the internet
Hmm apparently not only a few people encounter this problem but it seems like a lot of users are facing it.
Try this, resetting windows socket. Press Windows key + X then select command prompt (admin) type and enter these inputs into the console: netsh winsock reset
Then, restart PC. Hopefully it'll work
a nice tip. learned another thing today

looking at my recovery options there is -reset this pc - go back to windows 8.1 (my acer nitro probably partitioned off part of the hard drive with win 8.1 because they don't give you an actual windows cd. so i'm not gonna mess with that even if i'm not gonna use win 8.1 just because my cd key is in there ) - advanced startup so i go reset pc.... which then has 2 options - keep my files - remove everything (chose this for the obvious reasons to do a clean reinstall) after this it then prompts another 2 choices to pick - just remove my files (quick format) * i strongly suggest this - removing files and clean the drive (long format) *this is only if your selling your pc and giving it away. tbh even that may not be enough. only privazer or active killdisk can properly do a reformat using several passthroughs using a high reformat standard used by nsa or some other professional groups standards. after this i get a warning message "this pc was recently upgraded to win 10. if you reset this pc, you won't be able to undo the upgrade and go back to previous version of windows". Sounds fine to me :} lets do eeet the final message then says "rdy to reset this pc" reseting will remove - all personal files and user accounts on pc - any apps and programs that didnt come with pc - any changes to settings PS: i checked action it says windows is activated home edition :}
oh that's a neat thing to have in w10 if you're going to use the same os.
to me i still prefer wiping the os drive clean. it's a work thing. i usually mess with boot stuff and all, so it's much easier for me to just start fresh rather than fixing them.

ya I know it will activated automatically what I means is if I do clean install next time (because I going to get ssd soon), so definitely going to install windows 10 on ssd later on .... I key in the windows 7 cd key in order to activate windows 10 right ?
*I know I can't do fresh install right now, because I must either windows update / upgrade using ISO to windows 10 first then I only can do clean install

Yes, mount the ISO in your current Windows, run setup.exe and let the upgrade process to complete, when boot into Windows 10, check if Windows is activated, if yes, proceed to clean install and just skip whatever screen that is asking for product key, it will be activated automatically after you finish the installation.

if you are using genuine windows...the activation key will store in your motherboard's bios...so no worries on changing to HDD or SSD next time.
if you are changing motherboard then is different story, you will have to call customer service to verify your activation key.

Just a small tips here for those r still queuing for upgrading from win 7,8,8.1 to 10, u can try to short cut way to upgrade it by downloading media creation tool as shared earlier
If you encounter problem with error message, try to change the PC language back to United state, English. if you r successful downloaded, the PC will automatically upgrade for you. It will take u approximately 2-3 hours depending on the network and ur PC.
I am done and start using it now....New Win 10 user !
p/s: all original files r still remained in my PC although I have back up my file earlier
Want to ask, im using w7 home 64bit oem version, and i had already upgraded to w10 home, let say in future i want to change mobo, will microsoft detect it as a new machine? Coz i heard that cd key activation is stick to ur mobo.
anyone knows what is happening to my windows 10? My search the web and windows won't respond, it doesn't allow me to type anything, I tried running it from Win X it also wouldn't start, it worked when I first installed windows 10, but now it stopped completely, anyone can help?
Hey guys, quick question. I got a laptop running WIndows 7 Home Premium 32bit OEM license. I haven't received the invite to upgrade to Windows 10 until now. I update my Windows quite regularly as well. Is there a limitation on which Windows are eligible?
at first i have a problem after upgraded to win10 via the media creation tool. after everything done, when in desktop mode, totally cannot click anything until i shut it down and turn on again.

Yes you can. It's the exact same key. Try to check your key when you are on Windows 10. It's the exact key from 7/8.
That picture I gave you. Already explained it. I know reassurance, so i'll say it again...you can lol

Wait but you must first do the windows update to upgrade to windows 10..Then only that key will work.. Many upgrade it through windows update first. And clean install it later.
Cannot confirm direct try iso will work or not for first try

Glad that this solution works! The reason behind this might be the corruption of windows socket (winsock.dll) which controls network program to access connections like TCP/IP. Resetting it will regain its most ori configuration

call ms support. win+x to run command prompt (admin). type slui 4. in the country field, select malaysia. in the next page there will be a 1800 number for you to call. don't close the dialog until activation is completed.

no. it's not the same key, because during the clean install, you *do not* need to use any key. all you need to do is to install w10, skip any place that ask you for key. after successful install, connect to the internet and w10 will be activated automatically. yes, no key is needed.
that ms.tech probably is still not aware of what's going on. it's a new activation system, at least for this free upgrade offer of w10.
