Try this!
if you are installing it from the 'windows update' and you are getting errors. ignore it.
what you want to do is delete the files that the 'window update' installed on your computer.
then what you are going to want to do is visit this link;
https:// www. Microsoft .com/en-us/software-download/windows10
you will not need any USB or DISC, what it does is basically installed windows 10 onto your computer but this time around its going to download the original files for windows 10 without having any issues or errors when you are trying to use it.
you do not need to enter a product code or a key code for any matter, what it does is that it uses your windows key that is on your computer already, so all that it will do is update your computer if you are on win 7 or 8.1 to win 10..
you will get two choices a CLEAN install or KEEP files..
clean install will just clean the hard drive meaning there will be nothing on it. *safe and you do not need a new key code or anything*
keep files you know what that does.. just keeps everything on your computer and only updating the OS system..
I hope that made sense for everything.. its easy and quick..
*
I just finish download the ISO from the website you given
can I straight use that ISO to upgrade from my existing windows 7 ?
how if they ask for cd key ? use windows 7 cd key ?

Yup just install it and u can upgrade it to windows 10
*
QUOTE(tommyfai @ Jul 30 2015, 09:14 AM)
just download iso from the official website and offline upgrade.. i do it this way instead of waiting for the crappy logo.. i upgrade yesterday and activated.. so far no problem.
*
so I can just upgrade to windows 10 using the ISO
then if I want to do clean install just use back the windows 7 cd key in order to activate windows 10 ?

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Jul 30 2015, 09:38 AM)
You have to upgrade first before you can clean install, if you wanna do that.
I asked Microsoft support and they said you can use the W7 or W8 keys for W10 if you wanna clean install later.

user posted image
You can also revert back to the old Windows if you didn't like 10. But the option is only available for one month in settings.
*
either 7/8/8.1 upgrade to 10 either using windows update / ISO
then clean install using 7/8/8.1 cd key to activate windows 10 ?

QUOTE(terence_nwb @ Jul 30 2015, 02:27 PM)
Mount the iso in your current windows, then click setup.exe in the mounted iso and let the upgrade process to complete before clean install.
*
so just extract the ISO using 7-zip > open setup.exe > run it and choose upgrade
once finish run then can do clean install by using windows 7/8/8.1 cd key to activate windows 10 right ?

you cannot use the windows 7 product key to activate the windows 10. Just use the iso tfrom microsoft to upgrade and it will be activated automatically if u connect to the internet
*
ya I know it will activated automatically
what I means is if I do clean install next time (because I going to get ssd soon), so definitely going to install windows 10 on ssd later on ....
I key in the windows 7 cd key in order to activate windows 10 right ?

*I know I can't do fresh install right now, because I must either windows update / upgrade using ISO to windows 10 first then I only can do clean install

Yes, mount the ISO in your current Windows, run setup.exe and let the upgrade process to complete, when boot into Windows 10, check if Windows is activated, if yes, proceed to clean install and just skip whatever screen that is asking for product key, it will be activated automatically after you finish the installation.
*
alright thanks for the info, clear about it thumbup.gif

QUOTE(Lynixx @ Jul 30 2015, 04:38 PM)
if you are using genuine windows...the activation key will store in your motherboard's bios...so no worries on changing to HDD or SSD next time.

if you are changing motherboard then is different story, you will have to call customer service to verify your activation key.
*
just wondering, how to check my cd key that store in BIOS ?
I am using desktop btw

and just sharing, I just found this link to retrieve back my windows 7 key, and is match with the key that I kept few months ago

*
call customer service to verify as mention earlier

QUOTE(Rei7 @ Jul 30 2015, 05:06 PM)
Yes you can. It's the exact same key.
Try to check your key when you are on Windows 10. It's the exact key from 7/8.

That picture I gave you. Already explained it. I know reassurance, so i'll say it again...you can lol
*
alright thanks for the confirmation
going to do it right now, lazy to wait for the windows update
already downloaded in my C drive just no idea why won't install doh.gif

Wait but you must first do the windows update to upgrade to windows 10..Then only that key will work..
Many upgrade it through windows update first. And clean install it later.

Cannot confirm direct try iso will work or not for first try
*
too late I saw this, already upgraded to windows 10 using ISO method
so far so good
if next time clean install can't activate my windows 10, just call the customer service will do since I still keep my windows 7 cd key
and I just check the cd key using the software I mention just now, the key is different
however the internet explorer showing there is same as my windows 7 cd key, weird rclxub.gif

QUOTE(horns @ Jul 30 2015, 05:42 PM)
call ms support. win+x to run command prompt (admin). type slui 4. in the country field, select malaysia. in the next page there will be a 1800 number for you to call. don't close the dialog until activation is completed.
no. it's not the same key, because during the clean install, you *do not* need to use any key. all you need to do is to install w10, skip any place that ask you for key. after successful install, connect to the internet and w10 will be activated automatically. yes, no key is needed.

that ms.tech probably is still not aware of what's going on. it's a new activation system, at least for this free upgrade offer of w10.
*
so I can clean install next time if I want to install windows 10 on ssd ?

this works if i upgrade my motherboard or hdd within a year of the free upgrade offer.

what i mean is after the offer.

as far as I know, my windows 10 is licensed which it's license key was carried over from 8.1. it's window 10 license now.
*
QUOTE(StuartLee2015 @ Jul 30 2015, 07:25 PM)
Yes, i have done it...

it was like this :

Windows 8.1 Pro > upgrade to Windows 10 > Reset this pc ( Keep nothing ) > Fresh Windows 10

and when i reconnect to internet, i check This PC Properties, it atomically activated which is nice.

and it also give my computer a special name, which i probably leave it as it is, cause i scare if i change the name, my windows 10 will become non-activated....
from your second paragraph, you mean i can still activate if i change motherboard?
*
okay let make things easier to understand

1. you can't clean install windows 10 because you need the cd key for windows 10, not windows 7 / 8.1, unless you upgrade to windows 10 either windows update / ISO 1st
2. once you upgrade and activated, you can do clean install whenever you want (but let's say you change motherboard, might need to contact customer service) in order to activate, if add on like RAM, ssd, hdd should be no issue (correct me if I'm wrong)
3. for the name I don't think is related

Do you guys get assigned with generic product key or specific keys after upgrading to Windows 10?

The generic key for Windows 10 Pro would be VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T which is the same key used by Windows Insider Program.

You can check using ProduKey by Nirsoft.
*
just check totally same shocking.gif

using 1st method, the key is different from produkey hmm.gif

QUOTE(AmeiN @ Aug 1 2015, 09:45 AM)
read this

"Windows 10 handles keys differently. When you upgrade to Windows 10 via Windows Update from Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, the process registers your computers hardware, and qualifying OS with a Microsoft Product Activation Server. The device is then considered a Windows 10 device."

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/insider...2f-4b21fbd807a7
*
just ignore the key unless you change motherboard or transfer license to another computer then just call the customer service
else just skip and wait it activate itself tongue.gif

Yes. This is made possible because the W10 activation is tied to your existing hardware configuration (which is kept by Microsoft), so you can clean install on the same device (with minor upgrades) as many times as you like.
*
Unless you change motherboard or transfer license to another computer then you need to call the customer service right ?

Normally if change other hardware (except motherboard) should be no issue when clean install and activate right ?

Look guys, if you're having problems with the "Get Windows 10" upgrade, just backup what you want to keep, get the W10 ISO (make into a bootable USB), do a clean install of 8.1, upgrade clean 8.1 to W10. This is what I did, with no problems at all.

When 8.1 is upgraded to W10 (and activated), do a clean install of W10. Everything should be fine >> games, Office, Chrome, etc etc will work even better and faster (depending on your hardware, of course).

W10 itself will continue to be upgraded in the days to come >> hence the reason to get updates installed automatically (i.e. you DO NOT have the option to switch it off).

Good luck, and enjoy!!
*
I thought windows 10 pro can choose what to install windows update ?
as I saw defer upgrade under windows update hmm.gif
