History of G-Shock:
"PROJECT TEAM Tough" formed by the creator of G-Shock is Mr. Kikuo Ibe, which also known as father of G-Shock on 1981 to create "a watch that doesn’t break even when dropped". 200 experimental prototypes later, it was a child’s bouncing ball that lead to the finish product.
2 years later -- 1983, the first G-Shock released -- DW-5000C:

The first EL Backlight model is DW-6600 back in 1994:

In 1995, DW-6900 released which is one of the most popular models until today:

G-Shock produces a lot of collaboration models with popular fashion brands, artists, designers and animations, e.g. Stussy, Eric Haze, Bathing Ape, Lifted Research Group (LRG), One Piece, Cyborg 009.

I've a quick question about servicing and repairs before I go all the way to Marco Corporation.

I've 2 G-shock watches bought a long time ago which need service and repair, but I've misplaced my warranty cards.

Will they (Marco Corp) service my watches if I'm unable to provide them with the warranty cards ?

Yes. But you might have to pay since 1) You bought long time ago, which means warranty is no longer valid, 2) You misplaced warranty card.

Just curious, what servicing and repairs do you need?

Nice piece! Hopefully can get one by the end of this month.

On model 1. Time shows but when I press the Light, display goes off and will come back after slight pause. The pause is the same duration as when the Light gets turned on.

On model 2. I think it only needs a change of battery. I've not worn it for awhile now, hence thought of getting all done in 1 shot.

Model 1 - Battery. Just replace the battery and you're good to go.

If it's just a replacement of batteries and if it's a normal model, i.e. 4 screws holding the case back, you can even do it yourself. Really easy.

Different model different battery type right?

Yes. Most models use CR2016 and CR2025 (more use CR2016 though). However, the Tough Solar models, i.e. rechargeable ones, uses rechargeable ML2020 or ML2016. These rechargeable batteries are close to impossible to buy off the shelves. Marco stocks them though but I'm not sure if you can buy the batteries from them without sending in a watch for battery replacement.

There are some models which uses different type of batteries too, like the Wademan uses not one but two smaller SR927W batteries.

Truth be told for Model 1, I had the battery replaced by an old uncle (even had problems seeing) earlier. Then after it was replaced, I just noticed this problem with the light button and the display going blank.

Though thanks for the suggestion. Now to find where can I get the battery replacement.

The symptoms you described are signs of the battery gone south. Maybe the old uncle didn't replace a new battery?

Anyway, if it's normal model/module, the batteries are usually CR2016 or CR2025. They are really easy to find. Even 7-11 or 99 Speedmart has them.

Can you recommend some around PJ ? Most of the places I went selling Casio don't have an in-house person to do this. Or worst, it's an old uncle. LOL!

I've bought 2 of it, both haven't been worn. I'll wear 1 and keep 1.

Last I've checked selling it under rm400 in g-shock groups in FB. I can pm you contact number of one of the seller which has them.

It is basic black, we call it negative display. white numbers.
But once you turn on the light, it lights up green.

For current modern G, Protrek and standard Casio Tough Solar models, at least 98% of current line up is using rechargeable CTL-1616, wheres for the earlier 90's and 2000's model is using either the ML-2020 and ML-2016. (But only using on Raysman or Frogman 200 series) For analogue model or either combi between analogue & digital is using either CTL-1616 or ML-920 rechargeable battery.

lokgotz is right, at least current battery powered models is powered 3 common lithium batteries: CR-2016, CR-2025 and CR-1220. However, when Casio release 2 models on last year, the GD-350 & GDX-6900, rules has been started to changed, now is powered by CR-2032 battery which mostly powered our computer's motherboard BIOS battery.

And yeah, for rechargeable batteries, I'm basing on Raysman and Frogman GW-200 series because those are the two that I've replaced. I didn't know about CTL-1616 as I've not replaced the newer/current models yet. My bad there.

I'm glad they are slowly switching to CR-2032 as it's slightly easier to get compared to CR-2016, CR-2025 and CR-1220. However, that also means that G-Shocks are getting thicker than they are now, since the CR-2032 are much thicker than the other batteries.

Thank again lokgotz, glad to give you a helping hand. We are sharing the passionate about G since both of us are from the earlier generation for this famous resin watch . As a Casio nerds for nearly three decades, really happy to have senior's to share same passion. Got hit by G bug again in 2006 but now semi-retired already.

You're are right, by using the CR-2032 not only thicker but bulky also, as you can see on the GDX-6900, but also using the highest voltage 225 mAh, compares normal CR-2016 is using 90 mAh and CR-2025 is using 165 mAh. For CR-1220 is 35 to 40 mAh.

For rechargeable such as CTL-1616 (CTL stands for Cobalt Titanium Lithium) is using 18 mAh, CTL-920 is 5.5 mAh. Whilst for ML-2016 is the highest voltage 25mAh that is why Casio like to use it to powered the the older G such as the Raysman, Gulfman dan 200 series Frogman. (Note: ML stands for Magnesium Lithium).

Conclusion, that is why the the CR-2032 still rocks with the highest nominal voltage output for non rechargeable Casio watch models.

Quick update for ya. I replaced the battery and light now is all good. Guess I kena conned a little by the old fellow giving me a weak battery.

Got my first little G-shock (Tough Solar) Made a watch stand out of RM5 Daiso corkboard
Just cut, use toothpick & glue to join the parts.

Just take off, and place on the stand. Easy on/off!

BTW, do you guys know if the G-shocks on lamido.com.my (by lazada) are genuine?

Hi guyss, i m new here =) nice to meet you guys! I have a gshock ga110 blue black.yesterday i found out my watch gone black out and i think the battery is drained out. I went to gfactory in nu sentral mall and they said they dont provide service and ask me to go to service center in jalan segambut?is there the only place that i can change my battery and how much will that cost?

Any one know any new feature added to the new GA-1000-4 compare to the old model GA-1000?

Best is to change it yourself. Not too hard anyway. Glad you got it working.

I use the 2x2 acrylic case from Daiso as well to store my watches.

Not too sure what "black out" means but if you think the battery is flat, just replace it. Don't have to go all the way to Marco at Jalan Segambut. Not a lot of watch shops do battery replacements these days but not too hard to find one that does.

If you're adventurous enough, you can replace the battery yourself.

I don't really have three decades of experience under my belt. I got my first G-Shock in 1996. Second one in 1997. Third and fourth in 1998. Then stopped and focused on other watches, until I caught the bug again in 2008 when Casio released the new (current) Riseman. So you're the sifu. Not me. Hahaha

I focused on collabs and models with plenty of features (for movements, I have my other watches. Never really liked analogue G-Shocks) but I find that the collaborations are going out of hand. There are new collaborations every month or so, couldn't catch up. In 2011, I decided to sell most of my collection and focusing in only one model, i.e. Frogman.

I'm semi retired now as well. I've been focusing vintage/older models these days. I prefer the good old days where one G-Shock is specific for one function, like Frogman is for diving and etc.

Replacing a battery isn't really difficult. The sifu should be skillful enough. The battery should be less than RM10. Workmanship around RM10 (?) so you're looking at around RM20.

I always replace the batteries myself so I don't really know what shops charge for a replacement.

I've never bought from Gpeople but they are ok based on the feedback of other forummers.

Had bad experience in changing battery. Spoiled my screws .

The GD-X6900FB-8B is a very under-appreciated piece. Not too sure why didn't it gain momentum. FB sellers are selling at RM3XX. One of my most favourite pieces.

Nope. At first, I thought it was, then I took the bezel out and check.

There are two round plastic marks from the model under "H" and "O" and there are three pieces of thin jelly-like membrane on the top and both sides of the bezel. I guess that's to increase shock protection.

DW 5600BB. RM400-RM600. Heck I even saw one selling for RM821 at ebay.

I see. Just ordered one from Gpeople for 299. Marco's a bit expensive at rm450.

RM299 is a superb price. I got mine for RM449 at G-Factory. No online sellers had it back then and they were snapped up every time they restocked. No choice. These days plenty floating around.

Like I said, this piece is really under appreciated. You won't regret it.

im going to get a G9300-1 soon.. so i just wanted to ask if the tough solar on g shock is good enough? will it run out of battery pretty quick? i would say i use stopwatch quite often..

I look for them in lelong.my. It's the best site to compare local prices . So far Gpeople got the best price but seller warranty only, meaning you only can refer to him/her for warranty claim. You'll pay RM100-150 more for local (Marco) warranted Gshock.

The tough solar on a G-Shock is good. Even without sunlight, it'll last for 6 months to 2 years, depending on model and usage.

I'm more concerned about your usage. The G9300 Mudman has VERY hard buttons. It won't be the best stopwatch on a watch.

Don't care about warranty. Really. It's not something that will break down easily, even with REALLY rough usage. If it breaks down with rough usage, I doubt you'll be able to claim warranty also.

All my G-Shocks, the last thing I worry about is the warranty.

Anyway, why the Mudman? Is there a specific function you want? Maybe there is something else we can recommend.

I wanted to find a watch that would last me for years.. Those colorful gshock might not be suitable for my daily use.. And since I use stopwatch quite often, a digital one would suit me better.. And I wanted to have the tough solar features..

Initially I like the 8900 series but after trying it I feel it doesn't look nice on my wrist.. Hence I saw the g9300 and feel it looks nice and seems tough.. I engage in outdoor activities quite often.. So I think this might suit me well ..

Ok man, the cheapest I saw is also from Lelong. Will consider it as my next purchase Just got myself the Rangeman and Camo
Not really worry about warranty though, just wanted to get fair deal suggestion from experts here

With Marco I read is only 2 years but warranty is for anyone who unluckily got a defective item, like Recovery blues. It may be battery's fault but it shouldnt be released. Even that, people still consider it as collectible. Hey wanna see my gshock play dead?
