wait wait.. my previous oil was crap. My current one is too new. Earliest I'll join is either after a track day (which will be impossible since my car isn't made for track abuse) or after 4-6 months when my OCI is due.

Guys.. I just serviced my car at Castrol service centre and they charged Castrol Magnatec (10W-40) + Filter + Labour for RM175-RM40 voucher=RM135.

After doing the service, I went to Tesco (16/7/2015) and saw these 3 selling !!
Are these the one people mentioning Tesco sales of engine oil ? Packaging looks different from outside market.
Castrol Magnatec - RM89
Castrol Edge - RM149
Shell Helix Ultra - RM149

I wanted to buy and keep for my next service for my VIOS 2010 1.5L Auto.
Semi - 7000~10000km ?
Fully - 10000~15000km ?

don't forget:

fully 6-12 months
whichever first.

additionally, if you're keen, do take the time to digest the information from first page smile.gif

my only gripe is that there's no 0w20 imported for shell pureplus

take note that even for our ambient temperature, mitsubishi does recommend 0w20 for the 4Bseries engine excluding 4B11T which is xw30 smile.gif

Hi guys,

Need your advice. Which oil to choose

Tesco Fully Synthetic Engine Oil
5W-40(API SM/CF)
4 litre
RM89

Castrol Magnatec Part Synthetic
10W-40 A3/B4
4 litre
RM89

Which would you recommend for a proton wira 1.5A? I'm currently using non synthetic mineral oil.
Thanks

Hi all,

Kindly need some advice/recommendation on what kinda oil to use for next service.

Next options:
- 10w30 (same viscosity as recommended by the manual), but most say it's too thin for our climate (and based on the SAE viscosity charts in the manual)
- 15w40 suitable for high mileage new engines mech says.
- 10w40, current oil but now price hike to rm131 from rm95

I don't plan to use any thinner oil than 10w30 due to an excessive blow-by problem I've been facing (Blow by redirected to OCT).

Car: 2012 Saga FLX CVT 1.3
Mileage: 90,000+ km
All bone stock OEM car.

Extra info:
- 80% Highway / 20% town.
- Rarely exceed 4k rpm / 130kph (granny foot laugh.gif )
- Average temp coolant (reported by Torque OBD) 89C.
- Average temp air 35C.
- Daily used.

Thanks in advance smile.gif

Here is the page from the User's Manual. As stated, 10w-30 is "recommended" up to 40C and, with an average of 35C where i usually travel, that's a small margin to work with.

I know we can't literally follow this guide, but i rather not push it.

as the manual shown, you are good for xw30 EO.
see the ambient temperature, all the way up to 40c ambient temps.

please also take note that viscosity value before w is for winter viscosity, and modern day EO have enough VII to have viscosity stable to not thin out too much during higher temperatures.

if i am not mistaken, the API certification it calls for is not even the latest one.
for more information, you may proceed to read up first page.

in summary:
imho a reputable brand/API SM/SN certified (please query the API directory) xw30 EO is a-ok smile.gif

Thanks, that's good to know thumbup.gif

Is there a rule that minerals need to be serviced every 5k km / 3 months or is that just for "extreme usage" conditions. The service book mentioned that under "normal" conditions a 10k km service is ok.

You're welcome smile.gif
if you need to query the API:
https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsSearch

no hard rule, if you know your stuff, even mineral EO can be dragged a few k km's more.
however typically not recommended.

heck, even the new "severe usage" is 5k km, 10k km is the "norm" now even from proton's standards.

the *BEST* way is still a used oil analysis to correctly determine whether an oil is good, whether your engine condition/wear is minimal, and whether your oil change interval (be it 5k km, 10k km, or even 40k km) is correct (not too long, not too short (waste oil/money).

but of course, given the facilities available locally/overseas, and the costs behind it, no one bothers with that unfortunately.
hence i try to share however much i could (and yes i have UOA samples on the first page).

if you really want to learn/know more, the first page has a fair bit of information that could be a bit daunting to digest for most people wink.gif

Hi guys, my friend bought this 4L Castrol engine oil, but the packaging is different compared to other Castrol products. I tried searching for this particular oil but cant find any matches. Was my friend cheated or something?
