wait wait.. my previous oil was crap. My current one is too new. Earliest I'll join is either after a track day (which will be impossible since my car isn't made for track abuse) or after 4-6 months when my OCI is due.

Guys.. I just serviced my car at Castrol service centre and they charged Castrol Magnatec (10W-40) + Filter + Labour for RM175-RM40 voucher=RM135.
After doing the service, I went to Tesco (16/7/2015) and saw these 3 selling !! Are these the one people mentioning Tesco sales of engine oil ? Packaging looks different from outside market. Castrol Magnatec - RM89 Castrol Edge - RM149 Shell Helix Ultra - RM149 I wanted to buy and keep for my next service for my VIOS 2010 1.5L Auto. Semi - 7000~10000km ? Fully - 10000~15000km ? QUOTE(GuyM @ Jul 21 2015, 10:42 PM) Just cane back from Tesco Setia Alam, bought this for my Lancer.... Mfg is Oct2014, initially wanted to grab the Castrol Edge but the mfg is 2012 my only gripe is that there's no 0w20 imported for shell pureplus take note that even for our ambient temperature, mitsubishi does recommend 0w20 for the 4Bseries engine excluding 4B11T which is xw30 |

Hi all,
Kindly need some advice/recommendation on what kinda oil to use for next service. Next options: - 10w30 (same viscosity as recommended by the manual), but most say it's too thin for our climate (and based on the SAE viscosity charts in the manual) - 15w40 suitable for high mileage new engines mech says. - 10w40, current oil but now price hike to rm131 from rm95 I don't plan to use any thinner oil than 10w30 due to an excessive blow-by problem I've been facing (Blow by redirected to OCT). Car: 2012 Saga FLX CVT 1.3 Mileage: 90,000+ km All bone stock OEM car. Extra info: - 80% Highway / 20% town. - Rarely exceed 4k rpm / 130kph (granny foot - Average temp coolant (reported by Torque OBD) 89C. - Average temp air 35C. - Daily used. Thanks in advance |

QUOTE(Quazacolt @ Jul 22 2015, 03:16 PM) Here is the page from the User's Manual. As stated, 10w-30 is "recommended" up to 40C and, with an average of 35C where i usually travel, that's a small margin to work with. I know we can't literally follow this guide, but i rather not push it. This post has been edited by metaru101: Jul 22 2015, 05:10 PM |

The service book mentioned that under "normal" conditions a 10k km service is ok. |

QUOTE(metaru101 @ Jul 22 2015, 05:37 PM) Thanks, that's good to know You're welcome Is there a rule that minerals need to be serviced every 5k km / 3 months or is that just for "extreme usage" conditions. The service book mentioned that under "normal" conditions a 10k km service is ok. if you need to query the API: https://engineoil.api.org/Directory/EolcsSearch no hard rule, if you know your stuff, even mineral EO can be dragged a few k km's more. however typically not recommended. heck, even the new "severe usage" is 5k km, 10k km is the "norm" now even from proton's standards. the *BEST* way is still a used oil analysis to correctly determine whether an oil is good, whether your engine condition/wear is minimal, and whether your oil change interval (be it 5k km, 10k km, or even 40k km) is correct (not too long, not too short (waste oil/money). but of course, given the facilities available locally/overseas, and the costs behind it, no one bothers with that unfortunately. hence i try to share however much i could (and yes i have UOA samples on the first page). if you really want to learn/know more, the first page has a fair bit of information that could be a bit daunting to digest for most people |
