Yep, i just looked at its manual book, nothing but w30 the lowest with API SH tag.

well on K3VE service manuals, 0w20 is specified for ambient temperatures 16c.
40c would be the safest mark (which the 4B10 has tongue.gif), however +/- xw10 viscosity, and with latest lubrication advancements over API SH, i would personally still go for it biggrin.gif (which i believe one member posted previously as well biggrin.gif)

oh my bad just remembered.

i've test driven a scooby lineartronic (legacy 2.5 turbo)
really really fun stuff, takes all the boring away from a D segment car.

no surprise really, the WORLD is moving towards lower viscosity, by hook or by crook.
read up the evo x manual, they recommend xw30 too smile.gif

while the non turbos are in the xw20 already.

myvi owner manual recommends xw20 too btw, while proton campros on xw30.
so ultimately, it is just people's mentality here imho.

German manufactures are still using 5W40. They seem intent to have HTHS > 3.5.

Volvo is using turbo charging, direct injection and timing chain in their current S60. They recommend 5W30 or 0W30. So do Ford with their Ecoboost.

But why MB, BMW, VW are so resistant to HTHS < 3.5?

Even Japanese evos are on xw30, understandably turbo chargers have additional heat and stress (keeping the turbocharger itself cool /lubricated for example) to deal with compared to naturally aspirated engines so that's that.

However if hths is the only requirement, xw20 isn't too far in achieving that figure so long the vii additives can be further increased /strengthened without compromising other wear /detergent additives .

Matter of time if you ask me .

The best is pretty subjective and fking expensive. You can't put together best and cheap.

Ok the best Ive tried is Torco SR-1R that cost RM60 per lit so altogether it gonna slap you RM240+ with the oil alone and maximum 10kkm OCI. Very good oil and will make the mechanic scratches his head putting a mid race spec lub into a stock myvi. Don't care, it's good.

Right not Im testing Mobil 1 Extended Protection, the proven 15,000 miles (24,000 km) oil, at least in US. Pour in and change filter every 7-10k then wait until next year baru tukar minyak. Right now I'm testing for 15kkm only with filter change at 7kkm. RM150 cost.

Keep note, Ive been using Perodua oil 98% of it's 205,000 km journey in a myvi 1,3 ezi. NOthing wrong with that oil really. If you're casual user it's better you stick with that Perodua gold bottle, semi syn. It's just fully synthetic felt smoother better friction modifier and yea ada duit lebih sikit for trying this and that.

SR-1 CAN last around or even a bit over 10k km.
SR-1R on the other hand most likely cannot and is not recommended as it more meant towards racing/casual track applications which it's detergent additives etc are reduced in favor of more friction modifiers and what not.

not an issue to you since you got it drained before that due to mis-comm anyways tongue.gif

Yea, I forgot that i need that 1r tested to 10kkm so that's why I orderd the test kit. So SR-1 it is. Too bad la it got drained to soon.

As it's been probably said a few times before, Tesco takes their stock from Europe. Most of their cars there use 5L or more oil so it would make sense for them to sell 5L bottles.

How much is Tesco selling 5W40 FS 5L?
