Hi all,

Kindly need some advice/recommendation on what kinda oil to use for next service.

Next options:
- 10w30 (same viscosity as recommended by the manual), but most say it's too thin for our climate (and based on the SAE viscosity charts in the manual)
- 15w40 suitable for high mileage new engines mech says.
- 10w40, current oil but now price hike to rm131 from rm95

I don't plan to use any thinner oil than 10w30 due to an excessive blow-by problem I've been facing (Blow by redirected to OCT).

Car: 2012 Saga FLX CVT 1.3
Mileage: 90,000+ km
All bone stock OEM car.

Extra info:
- 80% Highway / 20% town.
- Rarely exceed 4k rpm / 130kph (granny foot laugh.gif )
- Average temp coolant (reported by Torque OBD) 89C.
- Average temp air 35C.
- Daily used.

Thanks in advance smile.gif

can show a screen capture of your owner manual viscosity index chart?

Here is the page from the User's Manual. As stated, 10w-30 is "recommended" up to 40C and, with an average of 35C where i usually travel, that's a small margin to work with.

I know we can't literally follow this guide, but i rather not push it.

as the manual shown, you are good for xw30 EO.
see the ambient temperature, all the way up to 40c ambient temps.

please also take note that viscosity value before w is for winter viscosity, and modern day EO have enough VII to have viscosity stable to not thin out too much during higher temperatures.

if i am not mistaken, the API certification it calls for is not even the latest one.
for more information, you may proceed to read up first page.

in summary:
imho a reputable brand/API SM/SN certified (please query the API directory) xw30 EO is a-ok smile.gif

Thanks, that's good to know thumbup.gif

Is there a rule that minerals need to be serviced every 5k km / 3 months or is that just for "extreme usage" conditions. The service book mentioned that under "normal" conditions a 10k km service is ok.
