Hi guys, my friend bought this 4L Castrol engine oil, but the packaging is different compared to other Castrol products. I tried searching for this particular oil but cant find any matches. Was my friend cheated or something?

Is that the Tection series? But 20W50 probably means it's mineral. I can't find any info on this. But looks suspiciously like the Tection Extra series, usually used on trucks and buses.

If it's a Tection series oil, wouldn't the packaging say so in big words like the rest of their products?

Hi guys, if I'm not wrong there used to be a thread or something where we compiled a list of engine oil brand / specs / price. Or maybe I have mixed up with tire comparisons?

Anyway I'm getting my Wira 1.5 (done 170k now) serviced on my own for the first time (daddy used to do it tongue.gif), I found this brand called 77 Lubricants from Netherlands. Semi-syn is about RM90/4L. Anyone used this before?

nah there were many loose threads for pricing, this thread aint it.
my main aim/goal of this thread is for everyone to share knowledge/self education and so they can make well informed decisions/choices.

like your case, they claim meets/exceed API (strange, i don't see ACEA in all their products since it's from europe/netherlands) however from querying API, i don't get anything.
Maybe they run on different company/brand names with API?

Well they claim to be independent, so....

But anyways after going through my Wira's service history, I found that for the past 2 years / 60000km, the car has been using mineral oil (mainly NASA/Winston 20w-50) and only replaced at every 10000km blink.gif

The engine feels just fine and there's no oil consumption (touch wood!) but surely something isnt right with this practice?

that is your decision to make. smile.gif

personally i wouldn't go near 77/nasa/winston or xw50 viscosity.

Managed to find back the service record book and it indeed recommended oil change at every 10,000km, but only mentioned to use grade SE or higher.

Tesco started selling 5L Shell HX7 semi syn again! rclxm9.gif

But there is a sticker saying it's imported and distributed by a third party supplier. Should we be concerned?

Hi everyone

I had my oil change yesterday. The shop overfilled my E/O. I argued with them but they wouldnt take it out, insisting it is the correct amount (Wira 1.5, they filled until the dipstick MAX word)

I've let out the excess oil and keeping it separately in an old EO bottle I have.

Since the oil had already been used a bit (about 30 mins city driving, 10~15km), is it still worth to keep it until next year since the oxidation has already started? The oil is already darkened from driving. My oil change is annual and it doesnt consume oil if driven gently.

Is anybody here a regular buyer of engine oil from online/shopee/lazada?

Noted that some shops and customer reviews show the authentic hologram, which should suggest the seller & products are genuine?

that said, a LOT of european cars do have higher oil capacities and that could be the main factor on them allowing much longer OCI, be it mileage and/or period.

Hi Quazacolt, have you been able to confirm if this hypothesis is true? Or if you've found out some other reason why conti cars can have longer OCIs than japanese cars
