they've got grey but i get the silver one instead coz later it'll be chrome..so better have a lil resemblance lo...

Hardware shop... try a few chinaman one lah... they don't have those, kev-da-man recommend auto paint shop... the prob is they seems to offer only painting job rather than selling u stuffs for diy... normal paint shop don't have those rubbing compound... sigh...

"Sanding block. It's worth making your own from scrap 2x4 lumber if you don't want to buy one."
How much will a sanding block cost? If we buy it from the hardware shop.

Wet sanding - use soapy water when sanding, rite?
After that, just leave it to dry or wipe the panel with clean water first?
Or wipe with denatured alcohol? Can we get denatured alcohol at hardware shop?

I know the difference between enamel and lacquer paints, but what about epoxy paint?

well, using finest as possible sandpaper wont do it when the surface is badly scratches. you have to do it step by step, ex: 280>300>600>800>100>1200 etc

dont just straight away use 1000 from 200.

rubbing compund is just like finest sandpaper. its like polish but coarser

hope this helps smile.gif

those are Vantec Fan Card, or something like that.
around RM50 if i recall correctly. or is it higher? got bulks going around that price. if u ask me, i'd say better slap a 80mm fan to the PCI mounting, works just as those fan cards.

not to mention if u custom make ur's ... u can use better fans like ystech which provide u a great airflow at least 50cfm , but yes , it's noisy .. the vantec fan card is only 35++cfm at fullspeed .. kindda sucky

You can get Black & Decker RTX-1 rotary tool here in malaysia for rm280 - rm300. Exactly same features except different company only

if you gonna make a hole, you'll have to cut a round circle =)

Oh and...

Additional Accesories for the tool is RM70
Flex Shaft is RM170

You may find this at most Juscos , Parkson or and big hardware shops like Ace Hardware,Home Center and etc

Hi all,

I want to have ON/OFF switches on my 5.25" faceplate for my optical drives - DVD rom & CD writer (long story...)

Will the wiring be the same as described in this article
http://bit-tech.net/article/52/2

Just change the "fans" with the drives and it will work?

i never used compress can air. they are expensive, cant last long, and if u done it improperly it will freeze your hardware and might get shorted.

i use duster to clean it...right away suck up all the dust.

As from the tips that I've got from SRI COMPUTERS (level 2) promoter, we can use some pipes (PVC pipe, size depends on how big the plug), make it like 'driver' to put the sleeving unit passthrough the plug. Quite reasonable for somebody that not so sure or afraid to remove the plug...

ok. i'm gonna ask this for once and for all... so to all da pros, pls explain.

1. what is CCFL? (is it those long tubes)
2. just say i buy a uv reactive fan, what should i buy to get the effect of uv?
3. if i dun buy anything, what color will the fan be?? white? transparent?
4. what color must the tubes of light be? can it be colored or must it be the uv version?
5. what is the difference between the uv ccfl n the green ccfl tubes?? color? uv effect on the reactive fans??
6. what is the difference between standard uv fan, glossy uv fan with led n ccfl fan?
7. how does uv even work? (do u buy one of them uv sticks, some uv reactive fans n light it up??)
8. why does ccfl tubes come in pairs??
9. what are inveters??
10. just say the tube is green, will the uv reactive fan become green or... what color?
11. for the male molex connecters, how many wires go into the 4 holes? 1 wire each right?? yellow, black, black, red right?
12. just say i have a fan speed controller for 4 fans, does the 4 fans molex'es connect the to the controller or to the psu?

OMG ohmy.gif i don't get all of this.. pls explain.... theres alot more to ask other than this... but i want to understand this first...

1) yup those long tubes emitting lights
2) u need UV CCFL to get the UV effect
3) it will be wut the fan color is, just that it wont glow without an UV CCFL.
4) the tubes itself are usually clear transparent plastic. some have strips of color matching the color of the CCFL
5) green CCFL, u get green light. only UV will affect UV reactive fans
6) (let some other reply u on this laugh.gif )
7) wut u ask is correct
8) usually they're sold in pair
9) inverters are used to convert 12V DC to AC, cuz the CCFL uses AC current.
10) the fan will be the original color, just that it wont glow
11) correct
12) fan molexes connect to the controller, and the controller connects to PSU.

hope it helps smile.gif

THANX man!!!! that reallly helped me understand all i need to know about uv.. a few more questions k?

1. to make the uv reactive fans glow, i MUST have uv ccfl n not colered ccfl?
2. so inverters are a must if i want ccfl?
3. will one molex (from controoler to psu) be enough to supply sufficient power to the 4 fans??

that's about all for now.. again, i wanna say thanx to u for your help.. i really apprecieate it!!

1. of course, like the special security features on our currency, it needs UV light
2. yes, they will come with inverters
3. it's the same source from the same power supply, meaning, if u connect like 10fans thru the same molex also is from the same source

thanx allngap..

1. most of the chapalang fans only come with 1 3-pin connector rite?
2. the 3-pin is to be connected to the mobo rite?
3. is the power for the fan from the mobo?
4. so i plug the 3-pin into the fan controller, n the fan controller has 1 molex to the psu?
5. the 4-pin power supply is called the "molex" rite?
6. just say i have let's say.. a coolermaster dual storm n it comes with 1 molex, 1 control n 1 3-pin. all i need to do is connect the 3-pin to the fan controller n the molex to the psu n that's all??

1. chapalang or not most of them will come with AT LEAST 1 the 3-pin connector
2. the 3-pin connector from the psu are for the fans.while fans' 3-pin connector could be connected straight to the psu, or to the mobo's 3-pin connector.
3. no.it's either straight from the psu or psu-mobo-fan(from psu to the fan via a mobo)
4. yes.and u can figure it out just by looking at it
5. yes,the one u connect it to the harddisk,cd-rom,dvd-rom.google for molex and u'll know it instantly
6.what?.the installation is pretty simple. http://www.hexus.net/content/reviews/revie...XJsX3BhZ2U9Mw==

Glad that your questions have been answered, but really, I don't see how this is in the Case Modding section since it's querying hardware rather than querying modification techniques.

U r most wc. Hehe...dats biasa lah. Try a few times & u can master it ready.

* Tips: Use the front point to draw a line 1st. Only then use the rear one 2 drag it.

Since it can cut acrylic.... can it also cut round shape (albeit difficult)?

For thin acrylic (2mm) you can use the cutter. For thicker acrylic it's difficult to get a neat cut without power tools - jig or rotary saw. For circular cuts: you need a rotary tool or a drill/jig combination - drill a hole to insert the jig and with the jig on a slow speed ( to prevent the acrylic from excessive vibration) run the jigsaw around your pencilled circle.

A steady hand is also required.

thanx for the reply...

that are the 2 things I dont have...

1. rotary saw and

2. steady hands.... ( always have problem drawing a straight line freehand )

Anyway, since I only need to cut a hole for the acrylic, and a hole does not need to be circular, I might cut to pix below using the cutter... that means getting a 2mm acrylic for the sidepanel....

Attached Image

Well, not really into doing it right now although I certainly have the time...

Just go to Pasar Road. They got sell heat shrink. Just ask from them.

Anyway, just for your info. Heat shrink is considered for electronics components. You sleave it into the place that you want to protect and then use a hair dryer or lighter to heat up the heat shrink. It will then automatically shrink into that place.

Hope it helps!

If referring to the casing's material, then more likely it'll affect case temp rather than CPU's.

If bout the design, which in turn affects the airflow inside, then both case & CPU temp 'll be affected.

If wanna make it shine then can use AUTOSOL. Polish it using felt brush attached to rotary tool

Can use polishing tools like the one used in polishing cars

If there are 2 wires frm the fan, then the Red is to be connected to Yellow color wire of the molex. The other one can be connected to either Black color ones

Some fans hav 3 wires of which 1 is for sensor

Bout the airflow direction, usually there'll be arrows engraved on top of the fan. If u couldnt find it, then the side which has sticker/label facing u is exhaust (blow)

U can connect all the 3 wires onto mobo's header using 3pin connector if the fan's amp rating is less than 1A

If more than that, then for power use the molex & just connect the sensor wire onto mobo (still using 3pin connector since the mobo's header is also 3pin)

There's only 1 type of connector called molex, which is the one frm PSU (female)

Hope dis clears the air. U may add me @ YM / MSN dude. Easier for us discuss anythin' coz I may not always drop by here.

you need to use a drill to drill the middle.

Or use a nail and hammer to hammer it out.

Somehow I dont have a drill and failed to hammer the rivet out. Can't take out my top panel.
In the end I have to wrap up my whole pc casing to paint the top panel.

Oh ya, the hammer nail method had cost my casing severe dent

For fixing Acylic side panel, i'hv used double sided tape but it ended up getting alot of dust and very sticky at the side.

I recommend using screw to fasten it.

Boils down how u apply it. I recommend u practise on few pcs 1st; dat way u'll knw how epoxy settles after applied. Remember practise makes it perfect smile.gif

Its not a screw, Its a rivet. If you remove it, the rivet is destroyed n u will have to replace it with a new one. If you want to remove the panel, then u can drill the rivet out.
Just use a slightly bigger drill bit then rivet hole.

Depends la if u are hardworking then remove it only do your mods. If u are lazy then just carry on ur mods without removing those stuff cause removing them nids hardwork - drilling the rivets out and when finished replacing them.
IMHO if u r doing a blowhole, either take out all the hardware inside and only cut or take off the top panel

If u want it look clearly as clearly separate lines, then spray whole surface either color. Then u may stick on masking tapes, spacing 'em evenly. And spray the other color

The other method is 2 spray alternate colors w/o masking

Can use double-sided tape, epoxy, hot melt glue etc. Many choices of adhesives indeed

Either airbrush or u can design urself a sticker, paste it on top of the desired surface & start frm there

coolice : Vantec's no longer available. Replaced by VIZO

It doesn't get that hot. But remove the heatpipe first-though it probably won't get hot enough to melt the paint, the paint will cause cooling performance to suffer unless its see-thru super thin. I'm sure you already understand that your warranty will be void.

They using slot in 'clip', but you have to make sure the structure has the hole for your 120mm fan, else you have to cut both,

I suggest you start from side window, can see improvement..

ya, if u open the side panel, it will get more dust go inside ur case, somemore the air flow will becom more worse.
So, better is close the side panel, manage ur cables and make a better air flow... smile.gif

depends on what kinda power socket ur fan is using... if its using the 3pin fan header than u can directly plug in to any free 3 pin fan header on ur mobo.

but if its using the standard 4pin molex. then ur gonna need to plug in to ur PSU. unless of course u cut off the molex and replace it with the 3 pin header.

n btw, picture so small laaaaaaa...how to see ??? doh.gif

usually the branded fans such as CM, TT and Evercool, the fan come with 3pin connector, but package contain the molex converter as well.

and to add the fans, it depends on u, if u want to use the 3pin u can connect it directly to the motherboard if there is/are slot available..

and if u want to use molex, just connect it directly to ur psu..done.. smile.gif

the box (in the red lined box) is inverter.
as u can see at the upper part of it (green lined circle) is 2 wires connecting to ur ccfl tubes..
while the lower part (yellow lined circle) is a wire to connect to ur psu..
well, usually it connect to pci controller/switch first then it goes to psu..

got it? smile.gif

PS - if the picture is not clear enuff, u may want to zoom it at the inverter part..

I wouldn't suggest welding since for one, the equipment is hard to get and not to mention you need some amount of training to handle it safely. And you'll probably end up melting the mesh and making a butt-ugly black mark on that panel as a result.

Besides, you dont need such a strong joint. I reckon some quick drying hot glue will do the trick.

And as for double sided tape, it might not be so ideal because the mesh doesn't provide much surface area for the gum to bond to.

Avoid welding aluminium where possible. Very mafan. Need to sand off the layer of alu-oxide before u can start and if those welding sparks gets onto your skin, it'll itch like an ant trying to burrow into your skin. laugh.gif

Bleh its very simple to do a small welding..
Get a car battery....
Get that cable used to charge another battery (dont know wat its called) and clip a metal on each end...
Then weld it.

If you're gonna mount it permanently, epoxy it. If you want to make it removable, totally different story. Or you can use silicone as it's sort of semi-removable.

I'm also mounting that same honeycomb grill to the top of my mod project for the radiator intake. I've designed the mounting to be removable (so that I can clean dust or replace the grill in case it gets dented) with the combination of screws and bolts, an aluminium retaining piece, and the part holding the screws is epoxied to the panel. LOL, that probably didn't make sense coz I don't know how to put it in words, but that part of my mod should be completed by end of this week.

I think better to use Epoxy, would be strong enough for quite some time. If not, get it welded. I think I remember doing some welding job last time during industrial training on some flat metal plate, the outside wouldn't be affected much, mayb u need to repaint the external side, but the internal side, you'll need to grind the excess weld away to make it nicer. Careful too coz you might not notice that the grinder could have over done it. I once grind a welded part to smoothen it, for only 10 seconds, i made the weld gone and created a hole on the metal plate. Had to pay the cost of that metal plate and they didn't even give me that metal plate back since I've paid it. sweat.gif

Yup thumbup.gif I totally agree with you on that, summore my pay was only RM 300 per month during the training days and that plate itself cost me RM 80 oledi. rclxub.gif

Softwood vs plywood.. which one is easier to cut? I never worked with softwood before but did with 5mm plywood which is quite troublesome but cheap... i need to work with something around 3mm thick this time... =\

i think the best is to install at the top if there's ready hole there ..

since the thermal take cooler already ocupy so much of space so installing a side fan ... can't pair it with air duct ....

To cut a blow hole u can use two tools:

1st. Dremer or rotary tool
2nd. electronic Hand Jigsaw

regardless which method is best to have a template apply for more precision cutting.

for first method u just need to slowly cut out the circle according to the template.

when using 2nd method it need to start off with a driller to make an opening for the jigsaw blade to goes through and start the cutting

if u want mesh grill actually u could buy from those speaker cover for the car from workshop .. . i dont know how much they just u but it comes with different size so can look for the closest to what u want ...

Okay i learnt in science that static build up happens when there is friction. I got 1 question, is acrylic on side panels dangerous? Since the acrylic would get friction from the wind produced by the intake fan and is acrylic like plastic which easily gets charged up? How to ground it? Or just letting the acrylic touch the side panel would do?

Thanks.

If the piece is just small, can use candle. Ensure it's not windy around. Bunsen burner is also highly recommended. I'd posted on this issue quite some time ago

I plan to change my PC casing soon. Is there any advice before I start changing?

What should I do first? Remove all IDE and SATA components, then remove PSU, what is next?

How do I remove the motherboard from the casing, and to reattach them on new casing, any advice on a proper way to do it?

What about front panel connectors, I have read the manual on the motherboard on where the wires should go, but then for LED wire, usually there are two, how do I know which is positive, which is negative, and which pin on the mobo is LED positive and negative.

Thanks
Idzm

do u have the new casing with u now? for me, i like to remove the PSU first becoz u can move along all the wire together. dismantle all cables - IDE, SATA, Firewire. As for front panel, detach all cable - usb, audio, mic hdd led, hdd switch, reset switch.
then when all clear, it is easier to unscrew all mobo screw.
IIINM, the led mobo can works either way. doesnt matter -ve or +ve. correct me if i am wrong.
anyway, what casing ure changing to? Li-an Li perhaps?

Just some cheabo casing, im currently using a cheap ATX casing from my P3. Now planning to get somethign more decent with front USB and audio, since I put it on the floor and the port at the back is extreme hard to access.

I think the hardest part for me is to fix the front panel connector, USB, Audio, mic, hdd status, power status, on switch, reset switch

For example, the front audio panel will have two pins, left and right, how do I know which is for which?

Certainly the manual did tell which pin is left channel, which pin is right channel, but how do I know which cable from the front panel is left and right channel?

Thanks

Let's not talk about the front panel first.

The process of removing the motherboard, how do I start? Remove those studs that is between the board and the casing?

Sorry, this might sound noobish but I haven't try it before

must take out all connector before take out mobo. ok..
1st pull out all connector wire from mobo.
2nd pull out connector from hdd, cd-rom, floppy drive etc.
3rd take out all card from pci slot like agp, sound card, Netword card, etc.
4rd now take out screw from mobo, then mobo la..
lastly take out ur Psu only from casing..

Proc & HSF from mobo dont open la..k..

Wow, never knew the TJ07 had such a big airflow problem. Bro, 50c means case temperature? Tat is very hot, i'd say add some good exhaust fans and maybe a good intake as well.

TJ07 has 1 of the best airflow around. 50C for CPU temps is no big deal. If it can handle my highly overclocked rig with 8800GTX SLi there wont be any problems for any other rigs. A case cant get any better than having 2x120 exhaust fans at the top. Whatever hot air in the case oso will be go straight up n out the top.

Yeah. I agree with you ianho. My FX-62 is at 50-53C after installing the 8800 Series GC. TJ07 is good because of its air flow which is well designed according to the physics concept where the Warm Air will go Upwards.

Anyway, for AMD user dont worry if your CPU around below 55 as the dead(cut off) temp is mostly 75C.

As Uncle does it, use adhesive tape to attach the acrylic panel from within. But if you're gonna do that, better practise on cutting the tape precisely and accurately before you attach anything to your side panel. Doing the job poorly may just make the panel look worse that if you were to do it with screws.

For further info, please refer to the Modding Almighty Uncle... laugh.gif laugh.gif

U may just use fan grills of according sizes as template. But it'll take lotsa practise 2 get perfect alignments, especially so if there r gonna b 2 or more blowholes side by side

Yup, its most likely your power cable and/or any any extension cord you're using. Because the case its already supposed to be grounded though the power supply (the ground cable in the 3-pin connector is mounted to the PSU case, which is touching the main casing).

But if all else fails, just attach a wire to any exposed point on your casing and shove the other end into the ground hole of the 3 pin wall socket.. rclxub.gif

my pc also like that n nothing can be done coz the whole wiring in my house faced the same prob (main swtich prob, earth connector from main switch to ground of my house broken after renovation)... so my solution is, screw some cables to my back side of case, then plaster it to my floor (gap between tiles)... not all gone, but the shock can be say 50% less than b4...

wow... my 3 pins from the PSU already connected to wall 3 pin which is practically supposed to be grounded... but it's not so the powerpoint is at fault... how does grounding work anyway... can't i ground it wif alternative method...? like using "klip buaya" and connect to other things like rubber or something... i tried to clip it to my razer mantis mouse pad... doesn't work... sad.gif

aio ,,, just do some google of LED soldering and wiring .. from there u would get the idea what sort of LEDs u need, resistor and so on ..

then just left where u want to place the LEDs ... that u have got to work on a bit of ur imagination .. coz different case and setup required different layout of LEDs. .. .

How 2 apply? Suppose say u wanna make 80mm blowhole. So the rad 'll b 40mm rite? Set the jangka lukis 1-2mm less; 38-39mm

Use wht u learned in school especially Maths & Physics. U'd then already master some part of moddings

agreed....

just because its not the "right/pro" way doesnt mean its merepek.

using whatever method they can think of with whatever materials they have is fine if it works and gets the intended result. actually have to give thumbup.gif for creativity. people work with what they have..not many would go out and buy something just to use it once.

i think if u see how i shaved off the sides of my KSC75 in my Franken PhilKoss mod oso ud prolly call it merepek.

as for maths and physics, i failed maths and i didnt learn physics laugh.gif

It should be around RM15 per meter but usually it's sold as 45cmX1m ...

It could be used on anything that u could apply on ..

phone, keyboard, casing, mouse and etc... just apply ur creativity and get some godly mod out with it ..

It's self adhesive type ... so need to apply anything ..

Just stick it on the surface u want and get a hot gun or blower to make the glue melt and stick on the surface better .. .

i get the impression that u think the carbon sticker is actual carbon fibre man...

the carbon fibre sticker is just like normal sticker.... only printed with carbon fibre design so its not original/ real carbon fibre...just a normal sticker. applying, taking care of it etc etc is just like any other normal sticker.

Yah ... there's nothing else special about it other than a piece of sticker with printed pattern of carbon fiber on it ..

most of time it would be better not to exposed the surface to water and excessive rubbing or scratching the surface ... the printed pattern would gone.

remember it's still a piece of sticker only .. like madman said ...

The sponge ur refers to are known as acoustic foam ...

there's different type of such foam graded according to their capability of canceling noise ...

Yes u could get those used in the car interior .. as long as not too thick that blocked ur case ventilation holes or causes difficulty in hardware installation ..

However take consideration where u want apply the foam .. coz side panel usually have very small clearance so 1cm foam might not fit well ..

the thick foam could be used at the bottom or top of the case as well as the rom cage to absorb vibration.

You have to check the voltage needed at the terminals whether they correspond to the exixting ones, otherwise you might spoil the PSU or the divice and might be uneconomical to repair.

thanks, i dunno how to check at the terminal, the cable goes into dvd rom drive first, then to floppy connector, both from the same source, is the voltage ok?

so you tried it before it worked!! thats great.

i plan to use a wire connector, the normal used for electricity wiring one.

for the wire, you use what to cut the outer rubber? i need to buy one for this smaller wire type, dunno which cutter can do it.

hey there.. yes.. it is indeed expansive... smile.gif

what kind of case are you using? if it is a silver aluminum casing, you can polish it and get about the same effect as chroming. ( same procedure as lapping.. but with an added metal polisher at the end for the final touch )

hopes this helps..

im just a nooB

Added on December 7, 2007, 2:43 pmand one more thing, it is a very2 long process to be done.. smile.gif
