I wouldn't suggest welding since for one, the equipment is hard to get and not to mention you need some amount of training to handle it safely. And you'll probably end up melting the mesh and making a butt-ugly black mark on that panel as a result.

Besides, you dont need such a strong joint. I reckon some quick drying hot glue will do the trick.

And as for double sided tape, it might not be so ideal because the mesh doesn't provide much surface area for the gum to bond to.

Avoid welding aluminium where possible. Very mafan. Need to sand off the layer of alu-oxide before u can start and if those welding sparks gets onto your skin, it'll itch like an ant trying to burrow into your skin.
