Japanese Vinyl and Figures V11

Anime Figures (アニメのフィギュア)
Figure collecting and the otaku come hand in hand. In fact, figure collecting has been called the otaku’s “drug of choice.” The hobby as a whole can be quite overwhelming to the new comer with so many different brands, models, and sometimes outrageous prices. It can be a lot to take and at times will scare off those interested.

Why Collect Anime Figures?
Collecting as a hobby in general is nothing new. People collect all sorts of things, be it the classics like stamps and baseball cards or the more odd choices out there. Anime figure collecting can really be seen as a supplement to a love of anime and manga, because the characters portrayed in the figures are almost always from anime and manga. This is really where the appeal comes for many. Figures are a way to take your favorite characters off of the 2D screen or page and put them right in front of you. Individual figures can be appealing because of their detail, general style or mixture of both.

Hehe my 1st post in the new thread. tongue.gif

Just secured the order of this figure on Manda last night, with 'merely' 9k JPY, unopened condition.

Despite I haven't pay it, but I'm quite happy with this 'grab', since its usual aftermarket price is around 10-13k JPY(?). biggrin.gif

Ya, mebbe you were served by a poor rep. Never had any problems with them either.

Although their sales are usually 95% rubbish with the remaining 5% being stuff that most collectors will actually want.

But their model kits and military scale sales normally awesome if you're into that kind of stuff. DAMN you egg planes!!!!

Nanami Chiaki up for PO
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10277318

Should i PO it or i should wait it release?
Any sifu can forecast if this figure would price drop after release?

http://www.amiami.com/top/detail/detail?gc...006176&page=top
Amiami is cheaper, but amiami used to cost more for shipping because of their boxing, right?

Since this is by phat.
I was thinking to get from frontier station cause they are selling at retail price

The current discounted price add up shipping i guess is closed to the retail price.
Just want to ask if after release. Is that always have price dropped until could conpensate the shipping, and probably save more?
I am refering to EMS and excluding those bargain sales of coz.

Whichever that is faster to me. I'm ok with price difference by RM 20 or 30, depends. When i saw Kyouko it was an instant wanted figure, ranked 1st on my wanted list. If i grab her off amiami by Registered SAL i should receive her in about 15-18 days average (my fastest experience was 12 days). If i have that cash to burn, i'd go for EMS. Given the amount of accessories, EMS might cost as much as an additional 3000yen, so i think Registered SAL is good enough. On her release day i might buy straight away without waiting long.

Is that only amiami got registered SAL?
Hobby search only mention SAL.

Registered SAL is not trackable, right?
I know that SAL will be cheaper. I wonder How does the postman treat SAL package?

How postman treats them (between unregistered and registered) im not so sure, so far i got my registered SAL packages in perfect condition all the time, but i'd assume HS is using Registered SAL to avoid running into issues. hmm.gif I have 2 friends who used the way cheaper unregistered SAL, and the parcel is basically lost. Dunno if ended up in South China Sea or in Afghanistan where the Taliban is enjoying the bishoujo figures inside it. The parcel never arrived even after almost a year, and there is no way to track it. rclxub.gif doh.gif shakehead.gif When you cant track it you cant contact any parties to help you out. Registered SAL does have tracking.

HS does offer registered SAL.

How to do it:
1. Choose the normal SAL in the shipping option.
2. Put in a request in the comment column that you want REGISTERED SAL.
3. HS will add in the registered cost (410JPY) into your SAL cost when they bill you.

It seems like it credit card payment is direct charged you even for pre order item
and the shipping it also direct calculated even the figure is not release yet

Currently BIJ is cheaper compare to Ami in terms of pre-order
If you do not want to pay upfront you can select PayPal options, once the pre-order is ready you can pay via PayPal.

Like NY, the shipping cost is normally pre-calculated, and normally that will be the shipping cost you pay at the end of the day.

I guess they will pack the package in a way that will not exceed the amount pre-calculated.

Normally less papers as compare to AMI, but so far the package arrived in mint condition via EMS or SAL ®

Very hard to predict to be honest - i dunno how popular Godeater 2 is in the first place. I think the price will drop after release, but not too much. Maybe down to 11k or 12k like that. But i will preorder anyway; kena poison so bad liao. I already want this since i saw her in wonfes. IMO 15,600yen for this is still better than 16k yen for Akuma Homura. This one has more details .

LoL, if cut leg also still so expensive, maybe next time they can just sell the head... biggrin.gif The way prices are skyrocketing, they should just start selling figures with different parts sold separately...That way, those who like one part of the figure, like the head/boobs/ass, can buy just that...The ones who sleep in beds made of cash can buy each part and combine for a complete figure (like a Power Rangers Megazord)... tongue.gif

To me figure price increase is a good thing in a way i wont end up buying too many figures in quantity; i only buy those that i really want or really like. Less worries with too many waifu overcrowding my room. Im actually quite concerned with the amount of space my stuff will take up.

Wow, thats a really glass half full way of looking at things...Wish I had the same optimism...Right now, my biggest worry would be several figures I really want coming out at around the same time...At one point, around 2-3 figures in the same month was still manageable for me, now even for one I have to think real hard... sweat.gif

Im glad i was quite patient; I got my Alleyne 21 days ago, and just 9 days ago it was Shibuya Rin. This weekend i'll be paying for Dark Olivia. My maximum limit being reached already within 30 days / a month. That's a total of over 33,000 yen in a single month including shipping costs (which is an insane amount for a college student), although i didnt buy anything in April so i managed to saved up just enough. My last figure before these 3 was in mid March, the 1/5 Orchid Seed Sonico. Now i dont think i can go more than 2 mid to high end PVCs a month. I'd be more comfortable with one each month maximum.

Nice concept but pose is awkward to me. More inflated prices. It's the survival of the fittest now. =/ Who have the fattest wallet.

I kinda lost interest though. Good. I more figure to forget/cancel off my watch list. I think coconut shells for her oppai might have been better. The leaves here look like peeled banana skins to me.

2 difference address means 2 difference parcel. Will probably treat as different shipment

Depends on luck.

If you parcel is pick up for random check.... then you would either go all the way to KLIA or you sent an agent to do it for you, to get your parcel open and checked

Most of the time i have 3-4 figures to same address. no problem

they do random check? i thought they are checking for every item? hmm.gif

your 3-4 figure to same address, does it come in the same batch? I wonder they would add up all the value of the 3-4 figure and tax me

It doesn't help that it looks like its made from the EXACT SAME material as the float (it looks like the skirt and float are fusing together biggrin.gif )...Maybe if she wasn't holding the float, it wouldn't be so obvious...? hmm.gif

haha most of the renewal version seems to be an excuse to increase the price. I think if they were to just re-release (meaning everything are the same like the previous batch incl the product name), they can't increase the price. But once you slapped 'renewal version' to the product name (and maybe include very small extras or change packaging), then can put different price than the previous version

Ciel should easily be over RM500 including shipping, therefore chances of it being taxed should be quite high.

Since will kena tax regardless if it's individual or group order, wouldn't we save on shipping if we do group order? More ppl would mean more savings and it seems there's already quite a few people in this thread that's interested.

Of course, the question is whether the savings are significant enough to justify the hassle of a group order.

Additionally, if I'm not mistaken, GSC's online shop charges flat rate of ¥2000 for shipping to anywhere in the world regardless of how many items you order. But then, we'll need to factor in that the base price for the figure in GSC's shop will be higher than the other retailers. So need to play around a bit to see which retailer is cheaper (inclusive of shipping cost) when buying in bulk.

Just my 2 cents. Feedback is welcomed. biggrin.gif

I made a calculation comparison before in the previous thread but not sure what page; kena tax 10% or paying extra for shipping (by splitting into 2 parcels - if there are multiple figures in your package), there are almost no savings made - at most you save like a few hundred yen (only RM10 - 20+), small difference (depends la, to some people RM 10 is also big deal to them, but chump change to me - when compared to the overall value of your purchase).

As for group orders, you only truly save on group orders in shipping costs if you are lucky enough to avoid tax - which is impossible when you look at the release time frame of Ciel - December. If delayed, maybe January or latest February. Between Dec-Feb customs are hot on parcels trying to tax as many of them as possible because ppl doing business are importing lots of stuff, doing sales for Xmas and CNY. So, i dont recommend group order especially for Ciel, if the release date is any indication.

For expensive figures like Ciel i'd rather preorder from a local seller i know and no need to deal with risk of tax.
Only cheaper, under 12k yen figure that wont become rare i hunt for the cheapest deal after release. My Dark Olivia will be shipped out today, and including shipping costs, she cost me only RM 500 (i was also surprised). If a 13,800yen figure i can get at RM 500, Ciel will most likely end up costing about RM 600 maximum, not more. Barely an extra 2000yen.

the one time i dhl-ed something over rm500 i kena tax and had to pay the balance to the dhl dispatch.

if ems kena tax, have to drive to klia customs to self collect or can pay their dispatch or at pos office?

If i am not wrong is 5% (import) + 15% (sales tax)

That's why if bulk purchase, the chance of getting tax is higher and the savings from bulk purchase might not be enough to pay for the taxes.

-If you purchase from japan online store for Olivia the only option would be via EMS due to the large packaging. Normal add up to RM550 - RM650 provided you are lucky enough not to be taxed

Therefore the local store price would be more attractive because of the cost saving from the shipping charges. The only downside you only received Olivia is 3 months late.

So you would have to decide what you want, you want immediately then online store. If you can wait.. then can consider local store

Sales Tax is an indirect tax levied on certain imported and locally manufactured Source: KASTAM

I guess we would still need to pay for sales tax which soon well be replace with GST.

The local store i have always keep eye on would be

Facebook
- figure hunter (nice seller, COD from seremban to connaught, save my shipping)
- frontier station
- hobby station
- eien no kiseki
- frozen figure store
- AF hobby (i saw some member boycott this already)

With dedicated website (google it)
- the figure mall
- shirotoy
- hobby network ( most expensive)
- toy panic

I always compare their price and see if it is worth to pre order locally or via japan site.

Btw, the figure mall are getting more expensive.

For my case, their stock specifically for Olivia was delayed, thats why today only ship out.
I also ordered Shibuya Rin from them (local seller) and 3 weeks after release already arrive.

Regarding the tax, i dont think it's 5 + 15%, cant be that high. The total is only 10% from what i know, because my friend got kena before. The rate may be different for those doing big business and stock in stuff in bulk.

And I recognise that store, it's the one at Queensbay Mall..haha.

Anyways, I'll probably be getting Ciel from a local store. Btw, I know that Japan online stores can sell out very fast for hot items (like what happened to Dark Olivia), do local stores sell out quickly as well for hot items? I takut Ciel going to go like hot cakes.

Godeater is hot stuff (see how well Alphamax is making money off various variants of Alisa) so i can see Ciel being popular despite her price.
As for local stores, if you preorder sure no problem. Dark Olivia is available in AF Hobby, and also Frozen Figure Store. FF store stocked in a shitload of units of her but i dunno if those are for preorders or they do have some extras.

Yup, but as already mentioned a few times here, she is a bit wobbly...I'd normally expect figures fixed to the base to be a little more steady...I guess it can't be helped with the weight of them HUGE wings...I'm just worried that she might start leaning backwards due to the weight (and the hot weather which is supposed to get even hotter in the coming months)...

Many of my figures go back to boxes so i dont think i will have to worry about leans, and my display shelf is not that deep so a figure like Olivia would be leaning against the back wall of my shelf.

Anyone with that Orchid Seed's Alleyne having some kind of sticky stuff at the bra there?? I just read the post at tentacle armada he said they use some gummy things to stick the bra. I didn't open mine yet coz really busy these few days......  sweat.gif  sweat.gif
*
Yes, there is a rubbery-like thing there, feels like chewing gum in texture, but even if you dont stick it to her boob the leaf's shape will also make sure it covers her tits nicely, so, no need to worry about the possibility of that 'gum' there losing its adhesion over the years. It does leave a small mark on the sideboob, but the mark itself is clear, no color stains.

BTW i noticed Tentaclearmada's photos are getting worse review over reviews. How should i say, the lighting doesnt seem right. No improvements. Only once in a while a review or two contain great photos.

Yup, the overall volume of the box is about IBRS size; but heck RM 400 is CHEAP. I got mine for RM 500 incl. shipping and it's already cheaper than the amount other people paid for her.

I didnt remove the adhesive thingy - it doesnt look like glue to me, more like sillicone of some kind. Kinda unnecessary to remove it.

Agree. But it's really big for a 1/8 scale, but scales almost mean nothing in figures.

I have 1/8 scales, that are almost the size of 1/6. In proportions itself (if you look at the size of the head, instead of the overall height for the best indication), it's about 1/7, but the overall height is close to 1/6, but she is marked as 1/8. sweat.gif

That image i put liao drool.gif drool.gif drool.gif

15,556yen is about RM 570. I believe if i order from local shop, i can get her at around that price point as well. Include express shipping, shouldnt cost more than RM600. I got Olivia for 500, and she is 13,800yen. So i think i can get a 15,600yen figure for not more than RM600. Depends lah, some local sellers asking RM 750~ for Akuma Homura, a 16k yen figure, but that's an exclusive though.

The LED has very good quality, the strip is cover by transparent rubber cabling. So it is safe to bend. You can take a look on the picture in below links
Attached Image Attached Image

The length can only be selling in meter. No 3.5 meter, coz the led is 1 meter per strip.
I afraid if i take the whole length route for my detolf would be too bright, so i only take to route diagonally and it seems not bad. Detolf is well design to easily route the led strip using cable tie smile.gif

The taobao item is this
爱德朗 led灯带 3528贴片灯条 高亮超亮 吊顶柜台七彩霓虹灯光带
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r....&id=10867569337
透明-全网销量第一 〉白光 〉60
5 件(米)
(3.1*5 = 15.5 RMB)

led灯带5050/3528贴片光带灯条七彩霓虹防水高亮超亮客厅线灯插头
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=2013.1...&id=15071614670
经典版灯带插头 x1 (9.9RMB)

Noted that the price when i bought should be different, depend on the taobao seller having any promotion or not.

While for taobao i am buying via my friend running electronic project business, he is selling taobao stuff for side business.
Do contact him via email if you interested.
Name: Louis
Email: louislewyc@gmail.com
His selling rate via sea shipping is
((total RMB include ship to 广东广州)*1.18)/1.8

I do not know how it will cost if by Air, since i always use sea shipping although it will take 3-5weeks to reach.

You could mention my name "edwardccg" if you concern when contact him. Or perhaps you could just buy from other someone who run this smiliar business from taobao.
Direct buying item from taobao and ship to malaysia also ok but i remember only EMS is available, not worth if only buy small stuff.

Just wanted to ask, BiJ allows you the option to mark down the declared value of the parcel, has anyone tried it before and will our Malaysian customs catch on to this?

Was thinking of ordering from BiJ and getting them to declare the overall value (inclusive of shipping) to below RM500 in order to avoid tax.

As per my understanding.

Yes you can declare the overall value lower, but if your parcel is lost you can only claim the declared value.

But i read somewhere one member mentioned that even RM300 also kena tax...

Via agent mostly they would say have to tax and still need pay agent commision somemore?

Which means most of the time have to go by yourself and that would have higher probability that they might not charge you.

As per my understanding.

Yes you can declare the overall value lower, but if your parcel is lost you can only claim the declared value.

But i read somewhere one member mentioned that even RM300 also kena tax...
*
Yep, in BiJ's FAQ, it does mentioned that if it's lost, you can only claim back via insurance the declared value.

I've heard cases where ppl get taxed even though it's below RM500, while others are not taxed although it's over RM500. Seems to depend on luck.
For me, I follow the general rule of thumb that below RM500 won't tax while above RM500 will tax, as that seems to be what the black and white says.
So far I haven't tried buying anything over RM500 from overseas but I did buy some stuff below RM500 and all weren't taxed.

QUOTE(edan1979 @ Jun 6 2014, 11:42 AM)
if you are unlucky yes they can catch on with this old trick... the custom are not stupid nowadays... they can refer to the so called internet to check the true value... and you will received their love letter to pick up the item...
*
I was thinking, and I'm assuming that you are referring to a situation where customs decide to random check and open my parcel despite being less than RM500? Then they can check online to see how much the figure is really worth.

Otherwise, if they just look at my parcel without opening it (which is what I assume they do to parcels below RM500, unless the parcel is in some other way triggering their suspicions), how would they know whether the figure inside is really the declared value or not?

Maybe depends on what item and how much stated in the declaration. If big box but declared too low then suspicious already. Or the item description was too vague

I have an idea. If u get love letter, you take a photo of your otaku room, might as well have a naked daki cover hanging like a wall scroll, take picture of your room and print in A3 paper size. Yup, A3. Bring it there and go "Im a collector, not a seller/trader. Buying it because it's my hobby, spare my pitiful wallet because i eat grass 3 meals a day to be able to afford this".
And then go on and kneel on the floor and beg if necessary. brows.gif

For ciel, local store tentatively price start from rm540.
Similiar to 13000 yen + 3000 yen + 10% tax
Might get from local store for avoid hassle with custom.

When they block and send letter, even though when you want declared for no tax you will still need to drive there and meet with officer, right? If only i stay near to KLIA.

My god, so many complaining about Ciel's price in MFC in her figure thread. No idea if they are using it as a legit excuse to hate on GSC (many Alter asskissers there). I thought ang moh kao very rich one.

I know. I saw all the comments where they were like "OMGZ!!1!1!!one one!!1eleven!!! SO EXPENSIVE I HATE U GSC SCREW U IM BOYCOTTING U COZ U TAKE US 4 FOOLS AND U BETRAY OUR TRUST BLABLABLABLA... shakehead.gif

I don't see the same level of hate for other equally expensive figures.

The ang moh kaos don't know how fortunate they are, their higher purchasing power makes this hobby less expensive for them compared to us.

16000yen is about RM500/USD150. Simple example is if you earn RM3k in Malaysia and doing the same job in the US earns you USD3k, then the ang mohs only need to spend 5% of their salary on the figure as opposed to us having to spend 16%. But you know ang mohs..they think the world revolves around them and they whine at everything. rolleyes.gif

As for purchasing power, heck, you only need to look at Singapore. If you're working there and earning Sing Dollars, the figure would only cost 200 dollars which is more than half of the RM500 we have to pay if we're working in Malaysia. Purchasing power in M'sia seriously sucks balls. sad.gif

EXACTLY. Im not even complaining the prices much for the case of GSC, but i wouldnt be able to justify such a price if it were a Griffon figure.
I paid like RM 400+ for BRS original Cannon ver. in year 2010-2011, for a 9333yen figure, and i also paid RM 400+ for Orchid Seed Alleyne, for a 11,400yen figure. It's so obvious yen has dropped so much and they cant see the point. That 15,500yen Ciel would probably be equivalent to about 13,000yen 3 years ago.

I use Viking logic from 13th Warrior - when Arab guy complains that the sword they gave him was too heavy, one Viking says "Grow stronger."

When ppl complain about something too expensive... "Earn more". smile.gif

Oh, gwing, i only bought Gunpla from them before - cheap. Fast service and mail replies, shipping is also really good. Figure isnt their main focus though, but they are pricing their preorders pretty well because their stocks from their supplier comes in large amounts so i guess that's why they can offer it cheap.

Some other toys like Hot Toys, I heard that if the distributor took 6 unit for one model, they will get 1 unit free. despite of the commission they earn, they still get one free.

but sometime, you need to bare the risk of the figure/stock being stuck there for months. nod.gif

I was struggling between CIEL and gunpla these few days, and pay a visit to Gwing shop last few days, finding that Gunpla is not my cup of tea (except for PG level)...but I have no experience to assemble even a MG. so i give up and go for the loving CIEL...LOL~  flex.gif
*
Trust me, even MG is very easy to build if you direct build (with proper tools), with only a few exceptions like the EX-S, Unicorn, Zeta (usually complex transformable ones). SEED and 00 MGs are very easy to build even for beginners while the amount of details is good; for PG it is not something rookies should try. MG is about the size of 1/8 figures ah, not bad already.

Walao, didnt know Ciel can get so cheap @_@ Now who should i order it from... Gwing is also a good idea, since im from penang. Can pick up from their shop, save shipping if the release timing is right.

i did a simple calculation.
this price is the same as if we order from BIJ (the cheapest of all Jap shops) + RSAL.
so, if eventually it turns out to be EMS only, and plus the risk of custom tax, buying from local seems like making more sense rolleyes.gif

Its cheaper because of the high shipping cost if order from online...

If you compare shimakaze (GSC) online jp vs Local there's a huge difference around still

Let's go Gwing~ blush.gif

For Gunpla, If wan to go for it I will straight go for PG, as MG is way too small and fragile for me, but, needs tools to do too~
maybe few years later, someday i gone mad, i will go for Gundam~

Attention to all owners of Dark Olivia, her feet is NOT secured by metal bars despite having a screw in at the bottom. For those experiencing backward leans due to her weight, a catastrophe is waiting for happen - eventually she will snap off her base and land on the floor if you are displaying her high on a shelf without leaning on a wall behind.

Kotobukiya was brainless enough to use nothing but glue to secure her feet into the base. I was lucky to notice this, a moderate pull, and she detaches from her base which is not supposed to happen. It will be a matter of time the glue's adhesion gives away. Also, take care with super glues if you do need to resort to it - they can leech paint off the figure's surface VERY fast.

This is bad.
Any workaround for this?
I am displaying her without leaning any support item.
How can it lean to a wall? Her base already reserve some space and her back is not even touch the wall

I spammed glue until some black paint beneath her feet and the around the base's peg totally came off being leeched out by the glue; a little of glue wasnt enough, i needed to add more. sad.gif As for displaying, Her right wing is leaning against the wall for me (rotate the figure and display her at an angle). Even though the amount of glue i used has secured her into the base, she still wobbles, scares the sh!t out of me whenever i touch it. rclxub.gif So, the main sign she might detach off her base from her weight, is the backward leaning (i guess wobbles are normal or inevitable).

Unlike my other figures which i hold on the body or leg, or the base when transferring it, Olivia i have to hold with 2 hands, one on body one on the base. The body is heavy, leg and feet seems weak, and the base is also heavy, what the fcuk is Kotobukiya doing. They pretty much ruined a figure that is supposed to be their best. This is why until today i dont trust Kotobukiya in delivering a true flawless figure. Olivia would have been perfect if they actually bothered to use one or two metal rods deep into her feet and leg.

This is too bad, I tot Kotobukiya was going to do a good job on this Olivia, and right now it seems like they still quite careless in designing a good figure. blink.gif

Ya AmiAmi need to email them for cancelations.
Did it a few times and so far once kena love letter once - "cancel so many ar, we can ban you tahu tak".

Some ppl speculate that if you are a regular n have many other orders with them you get more leeway sad.gif

And yes, koto is terribly inconsistent, also prototype usually much better looking than final product. mad.gif

By the way, on those who ordered Ciel from Gwing, the deposit is 30%? 30% of RM 480 right? because they crossed off RM 540 and put RM 480 as an offer. If it's 30% of RM 480 (almost RM 150) then i would not have any issues.

Toypanic is indeed in Prangin Mall, opposite the cinema. I find their prices to be quite competitive and are usually the lowest amongst all the local shops. Plus can COD which makes it the cheapest option for me. biggrin.gif

I pre-ordered Ciel from them as well. The first time I checked, you could order 6 units. Now there's only 2 units left. Probably all the orders are from people in this thread..hahaha.

So from observation for example Olivia, there's JP version and Asia Version that local shop selling.

I guess the only difference is that the JP ver (Ship from China to JP to Malaysia) whereas the Asia ver ( Ship directly to Malaysia from Manufacturer) therefore there is some saving on the shipping (CH-JP)

As for QC done in JP? Hmmm.. i am not sure, but normal practices the QC should be done on the manufacturing plant before boxing. I am not sure.. hopefully those who always buy from local store can shed some lights

Oh yeah, I forgot they do provide free shipping to whole Malaysia. Even better..not only in Penang but no matter where you are, they're the cheapest option. thumbup.gif

They've got quite an eclectic choice of products for sale. They might not have a very complete selection of bishoujo figures, but most of the major ones are covered most of the time.

Regarding the Japan version and Asia version, yes, Japan version means the stock came from Japan. So, that means China > Japan > Malaysia. Asia version = from Shanghai, or HongKong, or Singapore > Malaysia. Companies like Good Smile have a main distributor in the 3 countries/cities i mentioned. So, if you ordered your figures from HS, HLJ, AmiAmi, etc, they are all Japan version.

And, all Japan versions of scale figures by Good Smile, Max Factory (and Alter also if not mistaken) will have a shiny sticker behind or bottom of the box, which reads hentai japan (HJapan). The sticker will not be there for Kotobukiya, Alphamax, etc (most other brands) regardless of what "version".

But, if you bought your new figure from an event where Good Smile has a booth - like AFA, Culture Japan, etc whether the stock is Japan version or not, we cant be sure (to be honest, i dont think it is - transport/shipment is expensive).

NO sticker will be present on the box of figures sold in such events, but not necessarily because they are not Japan version; it's because the stickers are slapped on by traders and distributors (like AmiAmi) in Japan, not by Good Smile. But, let's give an example of AFA singapore - does the figure come from Japan or their own S'pore distributor center? The Singapore distribution center is the bigger possibility for me but we cant be sure our selves. If Good Smile themselves is selling Asia versions in their booths at such events, why worry about the quality difference with Japan versions?

Hence, does Asia version or Japan version really matter? Not a big deal. But, it is true that Japan version figures underwent quality inspection a 2nd time in Japan so some people feel better or more assured that the quality is better. The first time QC is done is in the factories in China. However, quality issue itself is still highly dependent on luck. But why sellers like AF Hobby made a big deal out of Japan and Asia version and price them differently? Supply and demand - people asked for it. Some people are too particular about Japan version, and there are also those who wants to save more and pay less so they dont mind Asia version. So, AF pretty much went through the trouble and take stocks from different suppliers and label them differently to satisfy people who are particular about versions. So, they can target customers with both kinds of preferences.

You mean Ciel's price in AF Hobby?
If other shops also offering at RM480, why not order from other shops. As far as i know shops like Gwing obtains Japanese stocks.
So far 90% of my GSC/Max Factory figures have the HJapan stickers though, but they came from so many different sellers.

Just pre-ordered that Phat 1/8 Sawa figure on BiJ without much hesitation, since its price is quite cheap, compare with most other recent figures. biggrin.gif

1st impression on BiJ's ordering system, its ordering policy is similar with AmiAmi's, while it also provides shipping fee estimation like HS or CDJapan, yet could prepay the item you want before release, if possible. rclxms.gif

Thank you for the explanation. Useful info. biggrin.gif

Not much difference it seems between Japan and Asia version other than the Japanese version passing through Japan (and extra QC there) on its way to Malaysia. Ultimately both are produced in the same factories.

So long as it's not bootleg, that's the important thing..hahaha.

saw a lot of these 'prize figures' in the second hand shops in akiba as well as in the ufo machines in them arcades... quality isn't bad really, although one can not expect them to be as good as the figurines from the more established companies.

still very good though.

Or the guys at Koto simply suck in designing figures (the engineering and physics aspect), the plastic that supports her foot seems to be a separate part that was screwed in from the bottom, then they glue her foot into the peg. Why not just mold the protruding plastic peg and the plastic part surrounding it together with the base as a single piece? Then embed one or two average length metal rods inside the peg. Given they mass produce the figures such a design would add more than USD 3 dollars into their production cost.

personally feel that it may be checked at the same place (China) , both JP and Asia ver.
if didnt pass certain criteria then will be distributed as Asia ver, passed are shipped to Japan
only those that they feel confident enough to pass JP ver QC were shipped to Japan for QC
else it will cost for the return shipment to china as Asia ver.

Good question. I personally dont think they will ship it back to China or something - but it may explain the offers/discounts in AmiAmi's preowned or bargain section, for example. Personally i feel that they are actually new although opened before, but the japanese QC team are not happy with the level of QC for that particular item, although it's supposed to be very good already. That also explains why a lot of Kotobukiya figures end up in bargain bin.

LOLOL That's harsh. Some of their MuvLuv girls are quite nice (although QC issues are present in some units), also offer all the way down to 3800yen+. sweat.gif Maybe Koto overestimated the popularity/demand of MuvLuv's characters.

Kotobukiya shot themselves in the foot (pun intended). I have to make her go back in the box, dismantle the whole figure after i take enough photos. It's a love hate relationship; she's one of the most beautiful figures i have seen Koto made, but, but, THAT FARKIN' FOOT PEG vmad.gif I ruined her foot a bit by decorating it with a shitload of glue which spilled around a bit. rclxub.gif

If it was Good Smile and you email them a complaint they might even send you replacement parts for free. Kotobukiya, from what i heard, usually refuses to entertain customers' emails regarding quality issues. I wouldnt be so pissed if this was a 8000 or 9000yen figure. But to think they didnt use metal rods for a heavy figure costing almost 14k yen... mad.gif vmad.gif

LOL, you are one of those very few who believe what i say when i criticize Koto (most of them will be: "You serious or trolling? Koto stuff not bad ah!"), just speaking from my experience. I actually though Dark Olivia is koto's turning point, to deliver better figures. They almost got it right there, only to ruin something that's actually important.

To be honest, in terms of beauty and looks, Olivia is probably the most detailed figure ever made by Koto i have seen so far. Probably my luck wasnt good enough, but she is still darn beautiful to look at. If there is one figure of theirs im still interested in, it's that nun with guns Killmaria Aideen. But since she's a Shining series character i'll wait and see for the price drop. I didnt rate Koto too low though; she's a Tier 2, just below the top guns like Alter, GSC, orchid Seed, Max Factory, Native. There are 4 tiers in total on my figure company rating.

I didn't jz blindly believe what you said.
I got a Orchid Seed and a Max Factory figure, I can see from their quality, like what you said, Orchid Seed is higher than Max Factory.
I also been seen some Koto's product, honestly saying, that is a toy level work, but not a figurine level.

bad news is, their other scale figures are hit or miss, some are just plain bad
good news is, their 1/4 figures are awesome, especially the bunny girls series
but bad news is they cost a bomb
but then good news again, they usually end up cheaper after release

catch my drift? whistling.gif

Fuh such detailed explaination. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif I don't really know much about that company coz 1/4 figure are bigger than I expected, so after bought 1 figure from them I stopped coz too space consuming. sweat.gif sweat.gif I never bought other seires of their figure but they make all those characters in bunny costume is a bit boring I can say. Luckily last time I didn't bought 1/2 Sonico. 1/4 already such huge I can't imagine how a 1/2 figure will be. sweat.gif sweat.gif

FREEing's only good in 1/4 scales, their 1/8 scales are just expensive garbage. FYI FREEing is actually ranked lower than Kotobukiya in my books.

Thanks biggrin.gif Yup, my signature style (that very few people do it on a regular basis), dioramas. But my logo is easy to recognize, on the top right corner there. I'll put that watermark at any one of the 4 corners, depending the amount of space present.

As expected, it's exclusive.
Koto has a habit of making a less attractive version (at least to me) and label it as exclusive in order to sell it, the same exact thing happened to their 1/8 Hasegawa Kobato. The limited one was red too.

Yup, im sure Koto wont bother changing the leg (and end up increasing production cost). shakehead.gif

Didnt see this coming, and thought it was KosMos at 1st glance lol.
The base is nice, but not too sure about this - the pose is very similar to Alter's own 1/8 Metatron. I wont preorder Alter's stuff anymore given how they delay them endlessly, it's not like their figures are hard to find after release anyway. hmm.gif

lAter lovers will bash me when i say this: Alter's sculpts are usually nothing special, lacking in detail even when compared to many other companies; it's their final product quality especially paintjob which they almost always get it right without flaws and that's where their praise come from. Just compare the Sabers by Alter with those by GSC.

That was the past, nowadays it no longer happens. But the Alter lovers will plant their skepticism into other figure collectors who know less. GSC screwed up a number of figures - the most well-known ones are early batches of 1/8 Miku World is Mine and 1/8 Canaan, 1/8 Hayakawa Yuzuko, 1/8 Yuzuriha Inori, 1/8 BRS animation version, and their epic fail Snow Miku nendo (year 2012 or 2013, forgot the specific model), where the nendos are almost bootleg quality, joints break easily, etc. That's all in the past though; they generally make very good figures with no flaws but once in a while they screwed things up.

Figures like their IBRS is way too underrated (not many ppl like an evil character anyway), that figure is outright perfect. Being someone who picks out the smallest flaws of every figure i can't find a single problem with that figure. Nowadays, GSC often delivers very well when that figure is a high end one or an expensive one.

Nowadays, GSC often delivers very well when that figure is a high end one or an expensive one.

I remembered after the snow miku incident a lot of GSC (and related companies) products are heavily delayed. My Max Factory's Asama Tomo was delayed from original release month of Dec 2012 to April 2013.

lAter lovers will bash me when i say this: Alter's sculpts are usually nothing special, lacking in detail even when compared to many other companies; it's their final product quality especially paintjob which they almost always get it right without flaws and that's where their praise come from. Just compare the Sabers by Alter with those by GSC.

aiyor everyone got their own preferences mah.

a bit OT, but hobby search (under fashion dolls) is selling RAH Miku at over 50% discount, below 10k. I know she's on sale everywhere but this is the cheapest yet I've seen.

she might not be very popular, but I have one and her sheer size makes her more 'hey that's not bad' compared to some figurines.

kinda worth it imho.

Of course, when they give you a preorder date, and tells you it will release 6 or 7 months later, then when that release month arrives the release date just disappears and you'll get your payment invoice and a final release date maybe another 6 months later. If they cant make maybe 50,000 units of the same figure perfect in 1 year i don't know what the heck are they doing. Recently Too many Alter figures have a time gap of almost a year between preorder date and release date. Their quality is second to none only in paintjob - it's just flawless, i wouldnt say the same for their sculpts' details, and just like the example i gave earlier on sabers, it's goddamn obvious.

its like comparing a bikini figure wif a full armor figure, then say ok, this figure (bikini) is bad, it dont have any details on it, only cloths covering her titty n pusy* lol XD
im no expert in figures n my point isnt valid, do argue n teach me more bout how to get better figures. till now im only get figures on my personal taste

Im not saying their sculpt is bad; Alter's already pretty good (im pretty impressed with Amane Suzuha specifically), but there are a few companies who are doing better in that department more than Alter does (that's entirely dependent on the sculptor's style, so Alter's is not fully "at blame'). My main problem with Alter, they made too few figures when it comes to variety, they dont cover much series and their characters, and the characters they cover sometimes are not widely known to many people. They produce top of the line figures in quality but very often their figures still drop in price, or they simply wont go up. The demand isn't there, and that's probably has something to do with the selection of their characters.

That is called quality over quantity, besides Alter rarely has QC issues like GSC does. So the released figure will be faithful to the prototype and you don't need to worry getting a "official bootleg" of what you paid for XD and I don't remember waited one year for Alter figure before most will come within one year if not half year. (I just hope to get my Alter Asuka this year!)

Excessive already when it comes to their slowness; i think no other mainstrea, companies make less figures than they do. Yes, there are a few figures that took like 11 months to release, almost a year already (i saw people rating in a thread), i'd have to hunt down that list if you'd like to know.

Edit: Alter Asuka i also interested, didnt order because of the expected delays.

I guess people are crazy about kancolle girls

Two figures plus got chair some more, that's why. =/

The amount of kancolle girls is too damn high. MFC shows almost 300 figures for kancolle. And some of the popular figures (i'm looking at you Shimakaze) are being made multiple times by different companies. Overkill much? shakehead.gif

I wonder if they'll be a point where the market will be oversaturated with them. hmm.gif

Anyways, the only kancolle that's grabbing my interest is this one.

It arrived safely, but I can't say I was happy with the way GSC packed it...I'm not complaining about the flimsy brown paper they used (it can even be toilet paper for all I care), but at least make sure the figure box sits firm, and doesn't move around...As you can see from the picture, mine had so much space on the sides, and it was moving around like crazy...Not impressed, GSC... vmad.gif

At least they have good after-sales support...But I think it would be more cost saving for them to pack nicely in the first place instead of sending replacements...Ah well, I rarely order directly with GSC anyway... smile.gif

Anyway, complaints aside, this is rather interesting... Can't wait to see the prototype... thumbup.gif

I believe one of the the next 2 color variants is pink; the 3rd one is either candy green or blue. I dont think black is possible for aprons. Out of the next 2 colors one will be a 2P color, and the 3rd an exclusive. Orchid Seed's usual tactic. But, Naked Apron needs to be white because your protein stains are also white. whistling.gif

is real disappointment if you find out your figure is imperfect when you wait for so long to get it on your hand...

I've been keeping an eye on this and the figure looks great and all but I'm not really feeling her eyes. unsure.gif

Compared to her artwork, it's a bit too big and 'cutesy' for my liking. Makes her look more kiddish me thinks. Maybe it's just me, I don't know.

Some of her artwork below.

I'd prefer it if her eyes were more towards something like the below.

I guess I'll wait and see how the Max Factory version turns out. Or hopefully they'll be more versions of Wo-class in the future considering the amount of interest Kancolle is getting.
