For your info,

I also didn't receive any call for confirmation. Mine was also scheduled for installation today morning. I called Unifi line at 8:15am to enquire which they replied installer confirmed coming. Later received a Unifi sms at 9:35am stating my installer name. Around 10am, installer called and informed me that arriving in 20mins.

Arrived ahead of time and told me they can pull cables over ceiling for a fee. I declined and told them to drill at the locations I selected. However, They decided to pull the cables over my ceiling as it is easier and faster (according to installer) for free. Pull the black cable beside my TV and asked whether I want casing for a fee, which I declined.

HyppTV on, Internet on, Phone tested, everything done within 1 hour 20mins. Also noted that there is no DB box like my neighbour; only a loop of wires hanging outside at the cable entry point of my house....
*
I didnt receive any call until this morning 10mins before the contractor came for installation.
But the contractor didnt quote me any pricing, haha they just proceed with the normal installation. The drilling was quite bad tho. But not that bad..

Yea mine is without the DB box too. I guess they dont use that anymore.
Btw, whats your router model? I cant find my router model (WBR-2300) when I tried to google for configuration tuts. hmm.gif

Today someone who claimed to be from TM came to my house to do "installation Auditing" while I was not around.

The guy states that my wiring entry point at the side of my house is not according to procedure. Also said that the cable running above ceiling need to be concealed in pipe to prevent rat bites.

Told my wife he will be contacting my installer and might need to redo the wiring. However, I called Unifi helpline and they told me TM personnel need to file an order on any activated account 24 hours before they can make any visit.

Have anyone experienced this before?

my unifi was struck with lightning earlier.. but the lightning doesn't travel through power line (plug & sockets).. all 3 devices (phone, wifi & modem) can be powered on, but none of them is working. TM technician came and checked each on of them and I had to replace all three.

What I want to say is, the thing can still be broken, even if the power can still be switched on.

I would like to install Unifi at my parents home, but the problem is TM says 'no port is available' (or something like that). Anyone can help?

Unifi has been in the housing area since 2012, there are 8 house in this area and seems like all available 'port' has been used. We tried applying for Unifi since last year but till now still no update. Anyone can help suggesting ways we can ask TM to provide more 'port' or the facilities so that we can subscribe to Unifi? Due to the inavailability we need to endure the problematic streamyx. Currently subscribing 4MB streamyx but the line quality always bad (frequent disconnect, blinking adsl light, cant even safely do internet banking). Thanks.

So the lightning travel through the fibre cable? I know we could disconnect the fibre at the FWS but it's tedious and inconvenient to do so... plus the plug at the FWS feels fragile. any better way to avoid it?

no. current cannot travel thru fiber optics.
maybe thru copper telephone line if he's using VDSL.. or maybe from other device connected (LAN cable).

but thru power line also possible. todays power adaptor are not using transformers anymore, but using 'switch mode power supply'. the main supply still have 'connection' in the adaptor to the secondary output.
maybe the internal chip got small static current and damaged the internal chips/IC.

no problem.
if on landed properties, from TM pole or box should be direct fiber till modem.
on high-rise/apartment, usually using copper telephone line from MDF room (ground floor telecommunication service room). so still got chances to get lighting strike from telephone line.
