1) Was hired for Malaysia ops some years ago, but contract bidding result not quite as expected so I was transferred to Qatar.

2) Yup, provided ticket back home. As rotator, you're required to enlist a 'home' location where there is a return ticket provided. Cannot get company to issue a ticket to 'vacation' location of course... But if you're not a rotator (aka live-in) but choose instead to be in any other country other than the one you're currently reside, then for sure relocation assistance/benefits will be there and extended to your family too. And for these two types of arrangement, one can be field based or office based as well.

3) Never heard of grad programme. Probably because I didn't join as fresh grad and had worked 2 years in an unrelated industry prior to joining.

Hello,

I just wonder, how did you transit from unrelated field to o&g field ? I mean, any special skills or something ?

Guys,

Appreciate some advice.

What do you guys think of piping engineer post at IFP (innovative fluid process) engineering?

Possible to learn layout,  material and stress in one go?

Thanks

Answering both questions above, generally a safety engineer deals with both design and validation of technical safety features and builds the most optimal safety system into the design of existing systems.

The key phrase being "functional safety". Most safety engineers come from a process or EnE background with around 5 years of existing industrial experience. The whole idea is take safety and environmental variables into context when designing a system. It isn't classed as instrumentation because instrument engineers are concerned about measurement, rather than safety as a whole. Also you'll have strong knowledge in process automation and the understanding of safety standards (eg; SIL rating, safety relays, safety PLCs like Guardlogix)

Most safety engineers in heavy industry will be certified by the likes of TUV, SIRA or have a CFSE cert as well.

Hoping to go Shell LNG HQ in Singapore. But all they do there is downstream works right?  hmm.gif And I'm quite tempted with offshore in miri though  drool.gif

Hehe. Linde here can learn all the basic things needed in the gas industry I guess. Heard from colleagues that it is quite similar with the LNG industry.

Did my internship with Linde back when I was a student and am now working in LNG plants. Would defo say they are very very similar in terms of operations if you're lucky enough to get into production department

You with Bechtel or Conoco? I know UGL are starting to take a front seat in LNG facilities due to APLNG wanting more choices in the long run aside from LORAC.

But yeah, get into production or ops if you want to go downstream. Most of these plans have an operational lifespan of 30 years, which means a stable job from start to plant EOL.

I'm now on the team building a few LNG compressor plants in the field, so I'm upstream rather than downstream.

Not with either of them, am with the main operator of the two gas plants in Karratha. Not really a big company like Petronas however.

Woodside. A name rarely heard here in the East laugh.gif

How's the downstream business? I wanted to get with Conoco (we call them CoconutPhilips here on site) and see the world, but it seems they're not interested in hiring right now sad.gif

Honestly, consultancy firm are well paid then O&G industry in F&A. Consultancy might prefer Master then Professional Accountancy Membership (ACCA, CPA, ICAEW, CIMA, MIA).

But I would said O&G company will prefer Professional Membership then Master degree. Of cause it will be good to have both.

Accountant paid in O&G not really as good many people though. But oil rig/plant technician & engineer they really well paid due to hazardous job.
*
In general, on the field engineers, technicians etc will always get paid better than desk jockeys in HR or accounting.

Yeah I know, its not that big anyway. When I mention the company, a lot of people has no idea about it. But hey, give some credit to the company, it used to be from the Eastern States =P

What I can say is economy is not doing that well for O&G as well. Usually the case when deals break down, exploration not finding anything useful and so on.

Because I am very eager to join o&g industry too, but I am not lucky enough to land any job in the industry. Currently, I am in heavy machinery and equipment industry for about 4 months now.. Do you think is it possible to join oil and gas industry after few years later ? smile.gif
