That JV called Al-Shaheen must not been doing too well then. Funny thing is Baker hasn't been getting the jobs there either. Must be SLB and Sperry then...
*
there is another JV with QG which is doing well since 2009 until to date.

it was said about 7000 world wide was laid off. and within my base at east coast ive seen 1 BU closed, a few laid off.
*
We laid off almost 50% of the onshore ppl (locals) and many of the offshore crew in our south america operations. Because of the downturn and huge debt, internal scandals, etc (petrobras), clients are more focusing on production and slowing down the explorations. Many of the drilling contractors and service companies were starting laying off the locals and trying to relocate the expats to other regions.

QUOTE(Holiao909 @ Aug 21 2014, 11:05 PM)
Hello everyone,

Just hoping to get some opinion here. Same here, graduated with a chem eng degree last year. Been working in a project management role for almost a year in the oil and gas industry. Am hoping for a more technical role in the future. Was gonna leave my comfort zone and do a full time master degree. Some say that this is a suicidal mission and that probably i wont make it back to the industry.

I received offers from Heriot-Watt, UTM & UTP albeit its research mode in UTP and taught for the former two. I am in a terrible dilemma. So should I do a research mode master degree or a taught one? Negative thoughts has been running all over my head since and that research masters are less recognized by employers. Is this true?

Fees is a factor here. Assuming that I do not want to continue phD after masters, which is the best choice for me given my current scenario. However, I also hear that some people say that companies employed people based on their accomplishment which is an indication of their capability and that their research title is secondary (even though its not related).

P/s: Research title is on EOR.

Help me pleaseeee. Desperately wanna hear an opinion or two.

Just do whatever you think is the best for you. get a second opinion. As for me, I need the money to support myself and family, that's y i am doing it as part time.

Just go for utm. they offer a quite reasonable fee. As for my coursework, the price difference between utp and utm is around 35k. plus utp doesn't have out campus for this course. just check yours.

job seek wise, you already have the experience in this industry. shouldn't be a problem. I got several offers but all of them are water and sale - based on my experience. ain't nobody got no time for that!

Hi, i need opinion wether is it better for me to switch to applied geology from geology degree.
i got offered to do geology in UM.
but after looking at the subjects, i find that applied geology has better subjects than geology if im to work in oil and gas field as a geologist.

check this and compares:

geology degree,
http://www.geology.um.edu.my/images/geolog...20Programme.pdf

applied geology degree,
http://www.geology.um.edu.my/images/geolog...20Programme.pdf

1 of the reason i think it is better because applied geology got geophysics which is higly rated subject in oil and gas field if im not mistaken.

So, is it better for me to switch? smile.gif
or can i just take the geology but take minor geophysics?
thanks.

hello everyone,

I'm a mechanical engineer student (3rd year), I would like to join the OnG industry when I graduate later. May I know what are the requirements to join? My current results are not so good or too bad though. Pointer is slightly more than 3 only. I'm currently doing my internship with Linde Malaysia.

Any advice on how to improve my chance (connections, results, skills etc) in joining this industry? smile.gif

Try to apply all O&G firm for graduate post if any. Linde is just soso only. Not recommended if u would like to pursue ur career in O&G.

Hoping to go Shell LNG HQ in Singapore. But all they do there is downstream works right? hmm.gif And I'm quite tempted with offshore in miri though drool.gif

Hehe. Linde here can learn all the basic things needed in the gas industry I guess. Heard from colleagues that it is quite similar with the LNG industry.
