Jump boat means it won't be in the same industry with your previous company d? If like that then your current company won't be concerned gua.

In order for the new company to apply your EP, you need to get your current company to terminate your current EP first. There's no way you can hold this one and apply another at the same time. At least that's from what I read on MOM website la. If current company terminate then new company apply, sure no interaction between them la. Otherwise if you apply before the previous one cancel, MOM might contact your old company and ask. Then everything will be no secret. Then... You know la tongue.gif

But I'm not sure la... Ask experienced ones to tell you better la biggrin.gif

They are not related. I got kinapped by a vendor i met on site.

Thanks for the advice. I read about it on another expat forum. Even if i cancle my current EP, i will be granted a 30 days visa for processing another. So i can serve my time for notice and also apply for the next EP pass. More than enough time .

Folk,

Is it tough to get job in Singapore at this point of time? 7.4% unemployment rate for young degree holders?

is your new company and the old company in a direct relationship? Like main con-sub con that kind of thing. That vendor take up on your current company's job?

Anyway... I think that 30 day is just pure visa. You are not supposed to be working during that period of time right? 30 days is most probably given for people to clear up everything and go back (incase they wanted to leave SG) or for you to look for next job after this one. I'm uncertain about this but you better check.

To clear your doubts the easiest way, why not contact MOM? I'm sure there's some sort of helpline or email address for enquiries.

7.4% remain unemployed... It's actually quite low eh... IMO.

Considering that not many degree graduate actually has over 90% employment rate. But of course it depends on the measure of time. How long is used to define being "unemployed"? Day 1 after graduation? or 180 days after graduation?

Near year end might be a little harder. I'm not sure biggrin.gif

They have thier own field and is not in anyway confliting of interest, sub contracted work in either way or competitors. I understand your point of view that if sub con or somewhat related can be a big problem because news will spread like wild fire.

I will talk to new company HR and MOM. I believe the new company HR knows what to do. But as long i got a standing offer that i had comfirmed should be ok. MOM is not much of a concern since my degree is good as well as experience.

I dont mind taking time off as i have not used up my annual leave. Company says 1 month notice, thus i am entitled to use it as my annual leave with pay.

I did some thinking and know that if they terminate my contract, i will have one week to cancle my EP. But contract is contract, if they break my contract they need to pay me for my annual leave and 1 month notice and i dont need to work rclxm9.gif . That leaves me for applying my EP for my new employer even easier.

MOM probably setup the exchange of EP in such a way both employers will not see each other to protect the employee privacy. Thus one closes and the other opens.

Yo guru, how are you?

Yes can be offshore and land too. But I be in a totally different work from what I currently do.

Well as for trips, not much as for now since I be doing a lot of paperwork for my new EP.
I plan to take PR with my new company as I can see a long term relationship with some training provided too when i start.
Might be going to Australia to work.
I be doing instrumentation & programming now on. A pro guru like you will know instantly, is one of the 5 DCS guys. brows.gif

Best investment in Singapore would be Hong Bao Toto. Invest 50 cents, possible return of 10 million.

Hey guys, for the 1st month expenses of working in Singapore, I read in here before that the expenses are around RM10k (that's roughly 4k$?). Sorry but I can't seem to trace it back, and Google mostly gives monthly living expenses only.

From what I know so far -

1) Rent - 600$ - 800$ (looking at single room if possible) Times two for deposit.
2) Transport - 100$
3) Food - 300$
4) Bank account minimum deposit - 1000$

That's 3k$ for now. Can someone please advise on additional items to look out for?

Rent is 1/2 month agent fee + 1 month deposit per year of contract (i.e. if u sign 2 years contract u need to prepare 1 month agent fee + 2 months deposit). Plus first month rental.

non-pr cannot have 2 years contract anymore according to my agent
maximum for non-pr is 18months.
so better to take the 1 year contract as 18month contract agent fee = 2year contract agent fee according to him.
not sure how true it is as i m not an agent nor am i familiar with the rules

Thanks!

I think I'll assume only a year contract.

1) Rent - 600$ - 800$ (looking at single room if possible) Times 2.5 for deposit and agent fee.
2) Transport - 100$
3) Food - 300$
4) Bank account minimum deposit - 1000$

That's 3.4k$. So I guess after adding in miscellaneous fees, phone plan and money to spare it's around 4k$/RM10k then.

Follow up question:

Any way around any of these at all?

1) Rent - 600$ - 800$ (looking at single room if possible) Times 2.5 for deposit and agent fee. Stay with someone I know if possible.
2) Transport - 100$ No way around this I think.
3) Food - 300$ Eat less? lol.
4) Bank account minimum deposit - 1000$ Need professional advise on this.

FYI no I don't have a job secured yet. But I'm looking at relocating next year, so will have to manage my RM savings. Just traveled a bit lately so savings kinda low for now.
