No gimmick and no hype at all

I guess it's normal. Afterall it's sorta L800->L900, L920->L920. Just placeholders

Last time, when Nokia released Lumia 1520, people were complaining size too big to fit in pocket and use it with one hand, hoping there is smaller screen with same specification. Now it is time. brows.gif

But honestly, i am a bit frustrated knowing there is no improvement from 1520, at least use snapdragon 801 like other flagship phone in 2014, video recording 1080p@60fps, and micro sd card support.

hope the back cover is matte type instead of glossy. wink.gif

Red too. I'm kinda disappointed.

Or maybe they wanna pull a Samsung and release a new spectrum of colours when hype dies down.

Tbh, I'm rather disappointed with the body design.

Been waiting for this phone since the leak. Was hoping it is 4.5" as rumored since I don't really like big size phone. But will go look when it's released to get a better feel before decide.

if you look at the color variants, only the black color stands out from rest because of the aluminium frame is in black but it still looks the same with the rest of the phones out there. laugh.gif

BS Nokia, why couldn't they just made a better phone instead remove 1 or 2 feature?? ex. glance!! rclxub.gif

they better sell below RM1.8k. 930 not worth upgrade from 920, rather go for 1020 or 1520!

all colours are using matte type back cover if not mistaken.
no point to make improvement from 1520 since they still want to push 1520 and 1020.

another flagship will be annouce 2nd half year.

erm...the only improvement is OLED instead of IPS but also sacrified glance support. lol...no sd card support, kinda feels like downgrade. lol

price would be RM1899 as expect.

there will be new nokia camera and new built in camera, probably (new algorithms) to enchance picture quality.

i just cant wait to see my L1520 runs WP 8.1 only~

I thought 930 is already the mid year 'flagpship', or to put it more accurately "the sorta-flagship-until-the-real-flagship"? I think both 900 and 925 and now 930 are released in about the same time as well.

No glance and SD card isn't a dealbreaker for me, but I do get the feeling that Nokia's keeping a better flagship phone up their sleeves.
Isn't this basically the Lumia Icon anyway?

I think I will miss Glance if I were to get this phone, always hover my hand over the screen just to glance the time and see if I have the extra minutes to sleep more.

and peeking the time and notifications in the cinema without annoying the people around you.

above are all the scenarios where I would use the glance.

on the bright side we get longer battery life.

Hehe yeah everytime during meeting. Double-tap also nice feature.

Just wondering why ppl dont know such features on their phone (not particularly nokia), after show then only look for it in their phone's settings etc.

And so far I love the Nokia Beam app. No need projector nor copy images to laptop prior meetings.. straight away wireless beam to the wifi-tv thumbup.gif

And so far I love the Nokia Beam app. No need projector nor copy images to laptop prior meetings.. straight away wireless beam to the wifi-tv  thumbup.gif
*
Now double tap is slowly coming to android phone also..

LG G Pro 2 double tap to unlock is way cooler i must admit. google "knock code"

I don't use any glance screen or double tap to wake.. It is a unique feature but it cramps battery. So I do think L930 is good, love the aluminium finishing plus with polycarbonate back cover! And 5.1 audio recording? Now that's just mind blowing!

I'm thinking of upgrading my old iPhone to this Lumia 930, seems like a great phone with the right size at 5". 1520 is just too big IMO, especially coming from an iPhone.

makes me wonder, will anyone here still wants to buy this phone after Nokia has been renamed to MS Mobile Oy?

I would, just for the sake of keeping one for memories.

That's the SADDEST part about it. I would proudly still call it Nokia whatever name is changed. Just imagine ppl ask what phone ure using, instead of saying 'Nokia' u'll say 'Oy' or 'Mobile Oy'.. doh.gif or at least 'Microsoft Phone @ MS-Phone'.. wink.gif

Yes, you can sync your Google contact by adding your Google account to the phone.

Both 930 and 1520 using the same 20MP rear camera and 1.2MP front camera.

You do realise that Microsoft didnt buy the ENTIRE Nokia company, just the mobile division. As part of the sale agreement, Nokia (the parent company) agree not to use Nokia branding on future mobile devices for the next 10 years. So in 2024, you could see nokia phones being sold again in shops worldwide.

Microsoft are forced to change the Nokia name to Microsoft Mobile. Marketing people at microsoft are not stupid, they know the value of one of the most recognised name in the world. They just didnt have the option to stick with it. Same thing happened with acer back in the early 00's.

Acer bought the entire Texas Instruments mobile and personal computer department. The name might sound alien to youngsters but Texas Instruments was very big deal back in the 80-90s (my first laptop was a TI, it cost me RM16,000 with docking station). Same thing with Lenovo when they bought IBM computers business. Acer to date still uses Travelmate name and Lenovo still uses Thinkpad and Thinkcenter. So microsoft most likely will still use Lumia name for their phone lineup but they cant use Nokia brand.

They can use the "Nokia" brand for 2 10 years.

QUOTE
“Microsoft will not be using Microsoft Mobile as a brand name for Nokia; the Lumia and Asha brands and products as well as rest of the Mobile Phone portfolio sold under the Nokia brand will be transferred to Microsoft as part of the transaction. This Nokia branded product portfolio will continue to receive full support from Microsoft. Nokia does continue to own and operate under the Nokia brand, but Microsoft has licensed the Nokia brand for Mobile Phones for 10 years, as well as for the purpose of marketing Nokia branded smart devices for a limited time.

Microsoft Mobile Oy is only the legal entity and Microsoft subsidiary to which the Nokia Devices and Services business was sold. The products and services acquired in the deal are now part of the Microsoft Devices Group, an expanded devices business that includes Lumia smartphones and tablets, Nokia mobile phones, Xbox hardware, Surface, Perceptive Pixel (PPI) products, and accessories.  Any further decisions regarding specific branding will be made further down the road as part of the future integration.”

Yes youre right but my point is its impossible for Nokia to change the name even after this deal. Microsoft just own the right to use the name only for 10 years.

I don't find this really worth upgrading from my 920 and to be honest, I feels 920 is still considered a good WP8 phone to get for a new buyer except the availability is an issue.

Few things that really need to consider IMO;
-lack of glance support
-no cyan/yellow back cover
-no expandable storage
-lack of assertive display

which in short; 5" version of 1520 then I'll be really happy to upgrade

Totally agreed that its not worth changing my Lumia 920 for 930. I'm now considering Samsung Ativ SE - 5in OLED, removable battery, microsd & easy to install dual sim adapter for overseas traveling use. I'm pretty sure the price will be much cheaper than 930.

This phone has caused me pain and suffering since its announcement... no micro sd, no glance, its a huge downgrade from all the other phones in the market. 32 GB.... my songs already take up half of that, and there is barely enough space for 1080p movies to enjoy on that full hd screen, 20 MP camera cant even store enough pictures or videos on that storage space.

I really love it, but I feel like I will be an idiot for buying it, especially with all the cheaper android phones out there now. What piss me off more is looking at the app store, all the unofficial apps there taking over is just an ugly sight - developers have no intention to make apps for windows phone.

As a japanese fan, it is even worst as they dont even have nokia in their country, all the cool japanese games will never come over to windows phone. Google is monopolizing everything, even twitch tv will be bought soon, even lesser apps

unfortunately, my love for it is not enough to cover up for its stupid flaws, to be called a FLAGSHIP phone is a huge disgrace. Nokia, why have you cause so much pain and suffering to me!? espcially if it was intentional by that damn stephen elop, dim gaiiiiii

Don't know if getting this phone is worth it. I feel like Nokia will be releasing a better flagship at the end of the year, since this phone is just a global version of the Icon that was released way earlier this year. But if I wait and it ends up to be a huge phone (I feel like 1520 is too big for me) I'll be pissed.

At the same time, my poor HTC Radar is on its last legs. Battery can't even last half a day now, and the lag is ridiculous. sad.gif

It seems like the only downsides to this phone are no SD support and no Glance, both of which I feel aren't important anyway.

What do you guys think? Should I wait for the next one or get this?

1) Glance - i've been using lumia for about 6 months and feels like glance is not really important to me bcoz everytime sure ill press the power button. cant resist to see my start screen. biggrin.gif

2) No SD card slot - at 1st i found that SD card is a must but until now my 1520 still running without additional storage.. not enuff money to buy 1.. sweat.gif

p/s this phone is only benefit those who want 1520 spec with smaller size.. if only size matter to u, the rest can skip..

Better wait for few months for its price to drop

Then only go for it....With its price right now, it is sure a little bit pricey for a phone with outdated specs

I maybe will buy it as a present for my younger brother smile.gif

i also have a feeling that the next flagship lumia is coming quite soon..
but if i want to get the lumia 930 before that, i'd wait for the price to drop a bit.

I have been monitoring this phone since its announcement. Agreed with you guys that this phone is a bit expensive. Some more I just finished my money with PS4 lol (after tired of waiting for this phone to come here). Will be waiting for the phone to drop some more before bought it, hopefully at RM1499.

I'm not insider but i think they are going to release the phone in around 10-20 days.
Because it just listed on Sirim database today.

RM-1045 [Support: 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth & NFC] [802.11 b/g/n: 2400 MHz–2483.5 MHz] [802.11 a/n/ac: 5150 MHz–5350 MHz, 5725 MHz-5875 MHz] [NFC: 13.56 MHz] [1 SIM, 1 IMEI]

https://ecomm.sirim.my/SirimEnquiry/search_model.aspx

you can always check the latest status by key in Avaxx in the Applicant Name.

I pre-ordered and I was told I can get it on the 7th. But after reading these posts I'm not sure anymore. o.O

Pre-ordered at The Gardens branch..

EDIT:
Just noticed that pre-order promo ends on the 6th, so if it's true that can pick it up after the promo, that means 7th is probably true(?)

We have finished packing all the orders but since PosLaju has revised their final collection time window to 3.30PM this month, we are unable to send all the parcels out today.

The parcels can only be delivered out tomorrow and should reach customers on either Saturday or Monday.

Got my preorder on Friday evening.

What I like about it so far:
- perfect screen size (5" is max for me)
- comfortable form factor
- gorgeous screen - looks great once set screen color to cool
- black looks really elegant compared to the other colours. Then again it's a matter of preference.

While I have only used it for two days, battery life is about the same as most smartphones, which is about one day. I charge my phone daily anyway.

Encountered continuous 'loading' (blank screen) when I turn on the phone yesterday. Not sure anyone experienced the same. Hopefully this is not a bug.

So far, this is definitely an upgrade from iPhone 5s! rclxm9.gif

Me too got it yesterday. The camera is just awesome.. Phone is solid, aluminum release the heat quickly, full hd display visual quality is top grade.

Since I already using wp8.1 developer preview. So wp8.1 in l930 not really giving me a surprise. Compare to wp8, the 8.1 can be said solved alot of the users requests.

No problems with mine.

Earlier had issue with battery draining quite fast when using wi-fi - solved it by turning off certain features (facebook running in background) and wi-fi sense.

coming from L920 I played with the demo unit at the Nokia Store and found that the Tile Size a tad small compared to L920 due to the Full HD display now and there is also no choice to use 2 row of Tile on L930... for those who upgraded from existing Lumias, do you find comfortable on L930 Tile Size?

The tile size on the 930 is just nice...not that small compared to 920 (on 8.1 preview). The extra column allows for more personalization and customization, IMHO.

hey, interested in getting the L930, but still doing some reading about it. was wondering, for anybody currently using the L930 or any other Lumia models with a matte polycarbonate back, does the back stain easily?

e.g. original white back turning yellow, other colored options having stains etc.

If so, are stains easy to remove?

thanks!

The stains are easily removed by using a moist towel or tissue. I love the polycarbonate back actually. With the metal frame feels very sturdy in the hand. You wont regret the built quality of this device. thumbup.gif

Im not sure if the material used on the matte black on lumia 930 is similar to the previous models. If it is, then black color is very prone to dirt and oily stain that is not removable. Especially if you used soft or TPU cover.

Quick review of the L930 for me!

The good:
1. Looks great
2. WP8.1 feels like a huge upgrade
3. Camera's great (in a well lit environment)

The bad:
1. Gets hot fast, even using normal apps
2. Battery can go down fast if you don't disable background apps
3. Purple tint (seems to be affecting a few people only)

Its designed not to fit the entire screen cuz its a curve glass. Might end up having bubbles at the side.

Thanks. For some reason, I think this item consumes battery as fast as 1020. It has to be the software issue I guess.

Just got the phone yesterday and using it 24hours... what can i say about the phone, it has impressive build quality. Better than my previous nexus 4 imo... been using wp8.1 dev preview before on 525 so wp8.1 on 930 doesnt really surprise me much.... everything behaving as expected, battery life also as expected... 8 hours after charge leaves me with 70% juice left, though i dont use it that much. Only screen turns on often due to notification from apps but i dont really open the apps so that could be the reason still most smartphone doesnt last me that long before even on idle. rclxms.gif

The negative side, it get hot pretty quickly even with normal apps use... probably because the aluminium is dissipating heat too quickly from the inside to outside but the heat is right where my hand is holding the phone so it could get uncomfortable at times. nothing serious though, when it heats up it is just as hot as my old nexus can be... screen has purple tint at grey colored boxes when it is viewed in dark with lowest brightness, not noticeable in bright light... the tint probably to differentiate the grey area with black area and I dont notice any color distortion because of that as well on other images... could be just my eyes, dont take my word for it... i wish that we can customize how big is the tile on this phone like what they have on 8.1 dev preview as I think the tiles are a little bit small, but not a big deal... also, some apps dont scale with the resolution so things appear bigger than what i like. Again, not a big deal... also, i wish the screen is below 5". I find it a little bit bigger for my hand but at least i dont typo as much as i was on 525, so i got that's going for me which is nice . laugh.gif

So far, pretty satisfied with the phone... yet to test the camera... biggrin.gif

Agree with you on the Live Tile size as I just switched over from L920 to L930 yesterday as in L920 although they support the 3rd column in WP8.1 Dev Prev. I never activate it as the Live Tile size is a bit too small. Over to L930 it's by default 3 column and makes the Live Tile size a bit small but compensated by the high res full HD screen makes the fonts readable, so still better than the 3rd column on L920 in my humble opinion.

I just managed to get the phone setup and configured with all the apps installed and home screen customized, yet to fully use it. Today should be the day. Apps load time are superbly faster than L920 in every way and the bottom part of the phone near the "Search" button does feel warm then gradually to hot after some usage (similar to L920 which is at the rear camera area where the heat start to build up).

Screen wise, absolutely brilliant in terms of resolution and color compared to L920 thus a plus point as well as on the overall build quality is very good. I know many struggle to find the reason to upgrade from L920 to L930 stating that the specification on L930 is a so called 2013 spec model but WP8.1 is never hard on phone resources, so I think is a great upgrade. Btw, I read also everyone hammering L930 doesn't have Glance but they managed to put in the "Double Tap to Wake" on it, so more or less similar but a bit more battery usage compared to Glance.

Now becoz L930 is using OLED and doesn't have the PureMotion HD+ technology as L920 have, you will notice that the font's and the color of the fonts including the refresh rate on the L930 struggles to keep up with your quick swipe up and down the screen. This can be easily notice when you are in the "Settings" section or the listing of Apps.

More to share as I use it... biggrin.gif

P/S: I will review this L930 based on my usage and compare it to the L920 which I have used for nearly 2 years

Yeah, I went to a Nokia store a month back to play with the newer models and I noticed that the 925 (I think) had the same problem while the 525 (I think) didn't. Kinda annoying limitation if you ask me.

Does the Moto G you have have the same limitations too?

I faced one issue, probably not Windows Phone 8.1 or the phone's fault but still annoying right now...

I can't login to facebook on the device from anything other than the apps. I can't login to link with Instagram. trying to login from the browser (tried IE and Maxthon), it returns the error 505 (internal server error). Anybody knows why and any workaround available? I've tried to clear the cache/history/temp file but problem persists. And it seems to be either only my devices (Lumia 930 and 525) is hitting this or my facebook account. My friend can login and link to instagram on his L930...

I can login from any other devices it seems, only my Lumia 930 cannot.

Wifi is ok, can load everything. Phone is set to auto connect to cellular network in case of limited wifi. 3G data haven't finish. Can load login page without problem, but can't login with Error 505.

It seems to be only my account is affected. Something must be wrong... Even my friend can login without issues...

Things I've tried in case anybody has answers:-
- Delete History, temporary files, cookies and saved passwords.
- Accepting all cookies
- Reset password
- Hard-Reset my phone and starts fresh (not restoring any backups)

I can't login to link with Instagram. trying to login from the browser (tried IE and Maxthon), it returns the error 505 (internal server error). Anybody knows why and any workaround available? I've tried to clear the cache/history/temp file but problem persists. And it seems to be either only my devices (Lumia 930 and 525) is hitting this or my facebook account. My friend can login and link to instagram on his L930...

I can login from any other devices it seems, only my Lumia 930 cannot.

Above is the list of thing that I have tried. Hard reset doesnt solve it so I dont think soft reset will.

Also, i have tried log in from my friend's L930 and same thing happens as well while he can login just fine... pretty sure this is server side related to my account issue. Not exactly phone's fault... Unfortunately, I cant find a way to get in touch with their support team directly...

I'm always believe battery usage is highly relevant to what you are doing.
eg. Games requires 3D rendering definitely requires more power than indie game.

You can't expect a car running in high RPM but not consuming fuel & generate heat. We need to be realistic.

just my 2c.

Usually, when I talked about battery consumption I tend to compare it to iPhone 4, first gen Galaxy Note and Nexus 4 with similar usage (pretty much sitting around doing nothing with browsing for one hour or two while receiving bunch of whatsapp and line messages without actually opening the apps)

My experience so far, Windows Phone always has the upper hand on battery life...

I've just found out that unpin Cortana from start menu can solve the overheat+ sudden battery draining + loading start screen from sleeping mode issue.

On my 930, happened once yesterday - was charging on the Qi wireless. Took it off charging once reached 100%.

The phone heated up and drained battery - by the time i realized, it drained until 85%.

So i turned it off for 15 mins. Cooled down and turned it on - was fine after that.

Not sure if it was caused by wireless charging..

Do you have Cortana pinned on start menu? If do, just unpin it, it cause the battery drain.

Malaysian doesn't get the wireless charging plate... though I might pick up one to use at work... I can't see a way to use it at home. My desk is a mess, phone sometimes on the desk, sometimes on bed, I dont have night stand... so might as well plug it in at home... at the office is different story though...

So far - no.
For me i use a flip-cover that came with the pre-order (ROCK brand), when i answer call, i flip open, and the slide to answer appears. The i close flip-cover (theres a slit near the speaker area to allow this). When finished speaking, i lift the flip-cover, the screen appears with details of the call.

have you been pressing the power button on accident? Or read this, it has something to do with the proximity sensor
http://www.nokia.com/us-en/support/faq/?ac...&topic=FA139001

Other fixes I read about are : cutting the screen protector off the top part of the phone, blow compressed air into the earpiece on the top

thinking to trade my HTC one Max for this beauty... but being a long time Android user, kinda use to the android logic and apps.

hope the WP expert who also use android b4 can guide me.

i`m a non-gamer,
use google service alot (due to all cloud and under 1 email) chrome, keep, gmail, contact and other sync.

need a full and fast capable browser all the time.

whatsapp, wechat, facebook, flipboard and instagram for leisure.

camera edit like snapseed.

gmail, contact, calendar should have no problem... but chrome, keep and other services you have to change as well. Not sure if dropbox is available on this. But I've been using OneDrive, OneNote, DropBox and Google Drive since Android so it's not much of a problem for me when it comes to cloud storage.

Browser, had to change to IE. I do find few alternative browsers, tried Maxthon but IE is much better IMO. IE is capable, but not sure about the fast when compete against chrome on Android. I don't exactly mind, I find it just ok but for me Chrome is more streamlined in the interface design compared to IE on WP. takes some time to get used to.

Whatsapp, FB, Instagram is there. Pinterest just came in with beta as well but I don't think flipboard is available (not sure why, I can recall flipboard is available as Win8 Store Apps). Camera edit, I use built in feature. Not sure how that is compared to snapseed but I find it enough for cropping, reframe; that's all I'm willing to do on mobile phone...

If you rely too heavily on Google's services, probably you want to stick with Android unless you are willing to migrate.

well, thanks for the reply, very detail

to me, i willing to try new things. i also saw that google keep by 3rd party in wp apps. but i know onenote can do the same jobs as well

the main things is i saw IE 11 improved. i hope its really improved.

contacts and calender sync is important, but i think gmail or hotmail can help.

last, its either Lumia 1520 or 930. as bother hardware almost same, but i like microSD expansion, but i like 930 screen size.

and i wanna trade my HTC one max for this.

IE 11 on the new WP 8.1 is actually very good compared to the previous version and it has come a long way indeed... I still remember the days when I was using my Samsung SGH-i780, the IE was horrendous

It's standard package, phone with charger... not wireless one... normal wired wall plugged usb charger...

price depends on shop I think... heard too many price variations....

battery life, definitely long enough to survive one day for me from morning till nite... unless you are capable of draining an android phone within 2 hours... so far, comparable use of my previous Nexus 4 and this 930 yields a very good results for 930...

Glance is displaying your notifications and clock on the screen with display off/screen locked... so you don't have to unlock your phone just to see your clock... L930 doesn't support it but we have double tap to unlock...

asking questions is fine... you should get as much info before committing the switch... biggrin.gif

I believe the one you visit is the Nokia dealer and not the Nokia Official Store (you know those big outlet at the malls). Nokia dealer can sell the phone at much lower price that RRP set by Nokia Malaysia but Nokia Official Store must sell them at RRP price.

Having said that I believe both types of outlet are having phones warrantied by Nokia Malaysia as long as it's from Zitron or Avaxx. Similarly I went to DirectD as well initially to scout for L930 but they only have White and Black so I walked away no choice. Their price is RM 1,799 and their units are from Avaxx.

Hahaha, yes it is correct. but sometimes curiosity is better.

Thank you for the info, will get this by this august. >.<

Glance is displaying your notifications and clock on the screen with display off/screen locked... so you don't have to unlock your phone just to see your clock... L930 doesn't support it but we have double tap to unlock...

asking questions is fine... you should get as much info before committing the switch... biggrin.gif

Hi, wanna ask the package of this phone nokia lumia 930? Is it really phone and charger? Is the price net RM1999? I heard rumors as above RM 1799? How was batery usage? long enough to survive one daY? smile.gif
*
when first bought, the battery not very well performed. I think is coz its still new..
after 2 weeks of use, average is 3% per hour.

most of my time are playing whatsapp, fb, some indie game, shot photo, view pictures/video, picture editing..

never had to worry the battery drainage when at outside.

Guys, any idea where to get accessories? I hate this flip Rock cover lol.

QUICK REVIEW UPDATE:
-Battery life has definitely improved (probably after disabling some bg apps)
-Heat issue is becoming less and less

Yeah, battery can last 1.5 to 2 days for me - moderate use (whatsapp, photos, browsing).
Still gets warm sometimes (angry birds).

Found some cases here - there's even official ones:
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/cat/Lumia-930-Cases.htm

Wonder why they didn't give the official Nokia case during pre-order... wink.gif hmm.gif

Thanks! But for a flagship phone the choices are pretty limited. Was hoping to find something like this.

Just realized this phone uses nano-SIM. So I guess I can't switch around with my other phones that use micro-SIM. Unless I get an adapter which I don't know where to buy from.

I already have a Micro-to-Mini SIM adapter. However harder to find Nano-to-Micro or Nano-to-Mini ones. Can't seem to find in Mid-Valley at least.

Not sure where is Starmax in Gurney, but I bought from Nokia Store in Gurney (Northern Point Cellulars & Accessories) on Level 2 Gurney Plaza. The shop, if you come in from the Nando's entrance, turn right get up to the escallator to 2nd floor, it's right in front of you...

Else, probably can look at Queensbay Mall's Freshpoint Telecommunication (I bought my L920 from them last time) or Bukit Jambul (Based on Nokia Store Locator, it's Nothern Point branch as well but I kinda don't like this shop).

I'm using a 1520 which has the same camera module as yours. After Cyan update, it's a lot better compared to before. In fact, even night shots are good now, just a little noisy at times. Safe to say, it's a hell lot better than iPhone / Samsung shot by shot comparison.

The video recording is still shitty though ... doh.gif

Hi All, I'm new L930 user (just 1 day). I just found the screen is flickering (either in Facebook or IE, while in white background more obvious) especially when the mobile data line is no good (falls from H+ to E), and I try to google then found this

http://www.ubergizmo.com/2014/07/german-no...een-flickering/

I try to manually switch to use Edge(2G) instead of 3G the screen is flickering occasionally (especially during data loading)

However my unit is Malaysia Zitron set (not AP nor German set, LOL), just wonder any L930 user here experiencing same problem or is common issue? If just my unit has problem (defective) I may need to go Nokia centre already smile.gif

Hi ya, the video in the link above "Google" page refreshed once. The screen flickering not really noticeable in that video, maybe this one more obvious

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvsk9_XugMs

it is like interference of old television (dark and white bars or lines running up and down)... biggrin.gif

Tested many times on my L930, it not happen on 3G, only on 2G (Edge)... I'm using DiGi, not yet tested with other telco because the rest not nano sim...

I actually do feel that the camera is lacking at night shooting compared to L920... it's a lot more noisy... but it is still tons better compared to any Android devices I've own if used right... so not sure if it's worthy of a serious complaint or not... bright light? excellent...

I didn't have this kind of problem... I'm on Celcom... could it be telco (different band) dependant? certain frequencies causing interference?

Thank you all for the given info, in such case better to claim warranty since no one encounter this, ya I also don't think is telco dependant since they are use same standard for 2G and 3G (correct me if I'm wrong)

I checked from Wikipedia, Digi and Celcom is on different band for GSM (which I believe what GPRS/EDGE is riding on)

Though I can't say for sure if it will cause any interference with the hardware.

mmm... ya possible. However quite hard to accept the new device only working for celcom and maxis but not work for Digi. If it is new standard like LTE there is still possible incompatibility maybe can accept, but EDGE has been used for many years already smile.gif
Or Nokia (or MS mobile) will say, not our problem, is DiGi problem biggrin.gif

I'm not sure if it's WP or the hardware, but I've seen lots of issues with Nokia devices since the 920.

My own 920 began showing vertical lines less than a year of ownership.

My 630 has some shadows at the top of the screen that are visible on light or white backgrounds.

At the Nokia store Gardens Mall I notice the 1520 and 1020 units have screen burn in.

I'm not worried about incompatibility... but more on increasing production/testing tolerance to rush the product into the market or cost cutting on shielding materials, and part of the decision to do that can be "small number of people is using it so we won't expect it to mass number of problems..."

which for me, deserves a facepalm... hope that is not the case...

Totally agreed with you. Nokia always well-known for good built quality. Cannot imagine the flagship model if there is shielding issue (due to cut cost?) that cannot fixed by firmware update in future. Even cheaper china phone manufacturers seldom have such issue.

If all/many units has such issue -> design defect
If only few or my unit has such issue -> QC no good

Since in Malaysia, the 3G coverage still not so satisfactory especially in rural areas, we still depend on EDGE. Cannot imagine to surf or fbing on new Lumia 930 with old analogue TV quality (with interference lines) even with Full HD screen. Very annoyed and already send back the unit to the reseller after 2 days (less than 48 hours) since getting the device, however they said still depend on manufacturer (Nokia or Zitron) to check to see can refund or 1 to 1 replacement. Hopefully they don't return back my existing unit to me and claim there is no problem sad.gif

Hope now Nokia doesn't change "Connecting People" to "Connecting Profit" biggrin.gif

Sad to hear that, hope they able to improve quality on future models so we still able to get good devices. The only attracting me is their camera, like they put a lot research effort on it. Hope the brand not spoiled by QC and marketing.

If you:-

1. Like 5" screen
2. Doesn't mind little bit old hardware
3. Doesn't mind the negative side of WP

it is worth it. Not sure if there will be any newer models (except that new L530?)

I've been away from Android for some months now, yet to regret... could be because I have Android tablet so I don't miss that much on gaming side...

Is Glance really that important for a Windows phone ?
*
QUOTE(evilpuppy @ Aug 16 2014, 06:10 PM)
kinda, double tab to wake beter than press the power button.
*
Glance is not double tap to wake... 2 different thing... I only see my sister use Glance on her L920. I've never use one myself, so I'm gonna go with it's not important for me... though I think it's more on preference rather than a requirement. Some ppl prefer to have it already on the screen, I don't mind double tapping to look at notifications or clock.

Hi, may i know what accessory is included with the Ori set? is it true that no earphone is included? thanks smile.gif

I double checked my package just to be sure
1. No earphone (somehow I don't really mind about this... usually I just throw away or keep it in the box and never use them... I use my own earbuds that's more comfortable.
2. Charger and USB cable is included
3. No wireless charger.
4. Comes with Cyan update.

Provided that SenHeng has the 0% interest EPP for your AEON Credit Card, you need to ask the counter.

You might want to look out for your own AEON portal to ensure that they offer EPP plans or their very own shop that sells electronic.

Plus, usually buying with EPP plan will cost more than buying without EPP. It might be 0% interest but there are other fees you need to pay as well. So, if the original price is 1699 don't expect the price is still 1699 with EPP; it will increase.

Guess what? I went to Aeon credit service to as today.
To understand more abt the 0% EPP plan. The answer did not satisfied me. And the best part. He kept telling me, u go buy your items for the shop(senheng) first n swipe yr card, and they Will tell u how much u must pay monthly. And Then u may call AEON customr service and get the payment schedule, the more you pay the less your interest is. Okk i k totally blurr now. Guess next im gona call up the customer service and ask the same question. If the answer is the same guess I'm gona give them left and right bcz thats the way all the credit card company cheat ppl. @@

I think that's not the SenHeng 0% EPP but Aeon Credit Card installment plan. Similar to Maybank credit card EzyPay Plus... That one will have interest, but based on my calculation last time monthly you pay is more or less the same.

does any1 have problem with his double tap to open screen?
i found out that i need to tap it very hard only it will take command.
and i found another way to double tap.
i have to press hard on the top right side of the screen. i can see clearly that the screen go into the casing. then only double tap the screen.
this way i can tap it softly. then it will recognize my double tap.

so my question is, whether your screen is flat with the aluminium side case or it float out about 1mm and it is pressable?

the top right side is the proximity sensor... my friend has same problem... wipe the proximity, then only can double tap... even making a call the screen goes dark without putting the phone near ear....

some got hit with the problem some are not... I don't have any problem with it...

No double-tap problem on mine, responds on soft double-tap anywhere on the screen - aluminium side doesn't float and not pressable also -- quite firm and flat.

Sounds like a defective unit -- should be changed asap ...

the screen is not entirely flat smooth to the side of the aluminum bezel.. there is a slight float approx. less then 1mm.. it's tight fit to the bezel and not moveable or press able...

user posted image

but that should not be the issue with the double tap.. perhaps just sent in into Nokia Care and let them have a look...

Personally feel wireless charging is wasting energy, most of Qi charger consume 1Amp currents, but output around 500-800mA only.. but the advantage is the convenience.

but I not expert in electronic, maybe my interpretation is wrong.

Based on the feedback I heard from people, your interpretation isn't far away off... it's less efficient than using cable at that kind of efficiency certain people does want the advantage of the convenience...

I just use whatever they give me... and I bought one AudioTechnica earbuds to listen to music when I run...

If you like the convenience, the wireless charging unit is worth it... I'm thinking of getting a stand for it so that I have something to hold my phone on the desk when I'm at work...

due to the forum width cannot withstand the 2048 x 1152, I put it to 1024 x 576.. if you see the actual blown up 100% the details captured is amazing!

L930 photography is not a joke... it can beat down most of the compact cameras.. However, i hope MS can improve the focus speed of Nokia Camera apps. It's pretty slow to focus an object or always out of focus compare to the stock Camera app.

I kind of agree that the Nokia Camera or the Nokia Camera Beta apps having some back-focus issue on L930. Strangely on L920 it doesn't have such issue. I tested both and L930 have some hard time to lock on the dragonfly as opposed to L920 which got it on first hit. But once L930 caught it, it just fantastic shot awaiting.

I got fed up of Nokia and their constant high priced low spec, lesser features phones strategy, so I got myself a oneplus one. However, my dad got a Lumia 630, i got to play around with it and I have to say the interface is really really not user friendly at all, need to scroll scroll scroll read everything, every line, because its not alphabetical order. Want to change ringtone also need to use computer to put in the ringtone folder, bloody hell nokia.. (if I'm doing something wrong please correct me, I still need to set the ringtone for my dad lol)

Back to the discussion, I was only browsing around changing some settings here and there, and the Lumia 630 felt UNCOMFORTABLY warm in my hands, this is the first time I experience this. (yes, the lumia 630 is low specs, but I hope this isn't the same for the other Lumia phones)

edit: I feel like i'm blaming the wrong company, it should be Microsoft's fault - even for having no apps, somehow we always relate like "Nokia? Nokia no apps one" when in truth it is 'WINDOWS PHONE' that has no apps, blame Microsoft not Nokia! mad.gif /rant over

and, i using my own customized ringtone as well as notification tone & alarm tones without need a pc.
about the scrolling long listing, it is problem on that app's developer, not the WP itselt. some of my apps allows me to quick jump to a selection by providing shortcut #,A,B,C,D...

I like it, less random bug/behavior compared to my experience on Nexus 4 on KitKat.

I used Lumia 525 before I get to L930, I didn't notice the uncomfortable warm... but it seems some unit does affected by these things, some are not...

The thing about Windows Phone is, it is not user friendly directly when you first touch it. The design language is very different. But once you understand the language (or should I say get used to it?) and setup your start screen properly, it's a lot easier to do stuff.

Ringtone, I didn't need to use a PC to set it up. I use Ringtone Maker (did I get the name right, folks?) it will save your audio into ringtone.

IMO, if you purchase nokia from their "so-called" official shops, then yes the RRP is expensive, but if you look around at phone shops, the price is actually quite decent...
and not everyone willing to get AP phones, no matter how much more cheaper they cost compare to phones with official warranty...

Yes, in some way WP is frustrating but there are things that WP is doing it right...
as for your scrolling and scrolling and scrolling, the only part i scroll a lot is Settings...other than that, i have no problem finding the app or tiles in the home screen...
like hooi_jd stated, press the alphabet to jump to the app...

as for the apps, there are plenty of good 3rd party apps in the windows store...
i remember reading articles that MS even pay developers to get their apps into WP, but some how i feel this has backfired, with developers just publish their apps and dont really update them with newer features or worse, dont even want to fix buggy apps...
try look around in the windows store for 3rd party that you need...

you can create ringtone using "ringtone maker" by nokia / microsoft mobile...

WP may not be what you expected as it is very much different from android, but try explore around and hopefully your experience with it will improve (even if you are not the one using it)...
i believe when you first use android or any other phone, you will poke around, read article, search the internet for features that your phone has...so just give it a little time to explore it...

Can anyone post the measurement of this Lumia box. I just got it from the courier but it seems like the content inside is not the phone. It is still in the big envelope. I scare to open first. After I open they say I take it away already.

The box of this phone is unlike the iphone or old Nokia boxes. The box is thin and flat. Perhaps you can take a video of your unwrapping so if anything happens you can show them the video?

Hey guys, does anyone else have a problem with the front camera? I know the phone has a purple tint prob (which can be fixed in settings) but somehow my front camera takes pictures with purple tint. Not sure if it's my phone issue or that's just the way it is?

Using Camera360 app and with a filter fixes this though, but still.

Like I said, I was sitting there on my bed beside my phone waiting the alarm to sound, but no alarm at all...

it just doesn't sound the alarm when it should be...

What I did was:-
1. wake up earlier than my alarms
2. sit on the bed glaring at the phone waiting for the alarm
3. no alarm observed at all....
4. checked all alarms, it is enabled and scheduled properly...

i've been facing this for quite some time, but today is the day that I decide to wait for the alarm to make sure it's not my intervention while I'm sleeping...

Got an update notification this morning. Thought it was the Denim update. But alas, nope. Just an OS update with new features.

OS version: 8.10.14157.200

Found this article on the update:
Microsoft has confirmed the roll-out of the latest Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 firmware for its 2014 premium smartphone, introduced at the Build Developer conference.

The Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 or GDR1, which was announced in July this year, brings the new build version 8.10.14157.200 for the Lumia 930. This build number is similar to the one that was available to Developer Preview devices earlier in August.

Build 8.10.14157.200 beings several improvements in terms of stability and performance and many more. One of the major elements of this release is the Cortana support for users in the UK and China. The update will now enable Cortana to work on the Lumia 930 in the said regions. Here are the changes and improvements noticed in build 8.10.14157.200.

Changelog

Improved stability and performance
Imaging enhancements
Enriched display performance
Cortana support added for UK and China
Start screen folders
Customisable snooze for alarm clock
Narrator improvements
L2TP VPN support
Internet sharing over Bluetooth
Apps Corner
Improved selection for calls, messages and contacts
A quick note: This update is not the Lumia Denim update, announced alongside Lumia 830, Lumia 730 and Lumia 735. It is Lumia Cyan, reports Neowin.

The Lumia Denim update, which comes pre-loaded on Lumia 830, Lumia 735 and Lumia 730, will be released for other Windows Phone devices next month.

Damn frustrated with Microsoft, where's the year end high end model? =.= My 920 is aging (battery life drop a lot), i need a Lumia 1030 or 1525/1530. Ain't buying the Lumia 930 because battery is small and it's pretty much last year's phone (USA's Lumia Icon).

Indeed - and comes with snapdragon 810 / 64bit. I think i'd better be a bit more patient and wait. Just that my Lumia 920's battery life isnt good anymore, on data sometimes i need to charge twice a day if slightly heavy usage.

mine always last around 12hours or more depends on usage. none of my smartphones managed that...

my usage is usually only heavy when I dont have PC right in front of me, which is lunch time and few hours after work activity...

Seems like it matches the advertised spec - 9hrs wifi browsing.

I don't use it continuously - maybe about 10 mins browsing every 4-8 hrs - so mine can go 2 days before the next charge - with data on 2g and set to OFF when not in use. Battery saver - almost every app is set to 'allow' except skype.

sorry late reply, didn't realize there's question on that post before...

if SOT means Screen On Time like what Android has, I can't tell since there's no such measurement on WP as I recall. But L930 usually last me from 9am right till 12am without problem. my usage might be different compared to most people but as heavy as I use my phone, it usually still can last me about 6 to 7 hours in my most heaviest usage scenario....

Like I ask her to take me to the nearest restaurant...... Then i tell her to drive me to one of the restaurant listed.....but she doesn't receive my reply and say "Sorry i didn't catch that"..................................

Like I ask her to take me to the nearest restaurant...... Then i tell her to drive me to one of the restaurant listed.....but she doesn't receive my reply and say "Sorry i didn't catch that"..................................
*
U need to tell which one on the list...for e.g, drive me on the second of the list/restaurant

1. mine last very well... none of my previous smartphone can last me from wake up till I'm going to sleep without recharge. this one can last me up until 15 hours on single full charge. but on heavy usage of surfing and 9gag-ing (using unofficial apps) can last me pretty much similar to any smartphone.
2. I only sync with my gmail, but I don't see why not 5.
3. L930 has good camera (though not on par with L920). I can't say it is on par with iPhone5s. There is a delay between you press the shutter button and the actual picture taken so you might want a little bit steady hand on low light (I know iPhone5s is very good in this department) but definitely better when compared to most Android phones I've tried. I think what I like about the camera is the lens, the bokeh is very achievable to any phone i've tried.
5. I didn't face many issue with Whatsapp. no more late notification and such. Latest update is very good, smiley scrolling is better, can mute for one year, and better scaling with 1080p devices. I like it...
6. I didn't face this issue anymore, but people still report it happens. I'm betting it's the whatsapp still. probably it's getting better and better. Most of the time nowadays, the one that cause me to restart are Bluetooth (this happen on all smartphone I've owned) and Alarm and reminders not triggering (rarely happens and it seems to be I'm the only one who got it even among my friend and within this thread; could be some weird apps I installed.)

Question, anybody has any problem with alarm doesn't goes off?????

I've finally cracked down the culprit of this... It's the driving mode bug...

I enabled the driving mode whenever I'm in the car (indicated by bluetooth connection to the radio) to ignore SMS. But when the connection is off, the driving mode isn't disabled causing all notifications to be queued; this includes all reminders by Cortana, normal reminder, alarms etc. Once I manually disable the driving mode, all notifications and reminders jumped out at once... doh.gif

Recently tested the 930. Build quality really top notch. Hopefully metal material will be assimilated in the future mid to high end models.

Had to agree... 5" is kind of big... somewhere in Nexus4 screen was perfect for me. But Lumia525 size would be a lot more difficult for me to handle as well. I dropped my previous Lumia 525 a lot more compared to this Lumia 930.

For me, the size is perfect. Maybe the reason u guys dropped it many times is bc it's too heavy? Haha.

Its also quite thick after installing the casing - which was why i got the 830 and keep the 930 as a spare/second phone - also because i wanted the glance feature, removable battery and sd card.

Also its the last lumia with 'nokia' branding...

Do consider the 830 as it is slimmer - very nice to hold after installing a custom polycarbonate casing.

Basically a mode that you can set to ignore calls and sms whenever you drive. I set it to enable when my bluetooth radio connects, but the phone didn't disable it when it disconnects causing all sorts of notification, alarms and reminder problems...

screen bug, I think it's software. If it's hardware it should be permanently hued....

Very nice price. Looking for your review in terms of battery performance. Btw, not sure if you can get a decent glass screen protector since the screen is curve on the side, similar to most lumia devices. sweat.gif

Btw, I just realized that the top left of the screen doesn't fit perfectly like the other corners. And it's press able. I went thru old post, one member also have similar issue albeit his is on the top right. Thinking about sending it to SC soon. :/

I should have ask for rm930 instead. Haha.
I found one tempered glass for the 930 in lelong..
The original owner already applied SP on this phone but it looks terrible bc the SP is clearly not for the 930.. Can see its cut marks. sleep.gif

I can't say much about its battery bc I've only used it for a while.. But if I to compare the 930 with my Moto G, in 8 hours of my sleep, the Moto G drops 3-10% while the 930 drops around 1-3%. But if u do web browsing or playing with the camera, it'll drain just as fast as other phones, I think.

as for the "loose", it doesnt really concern me lolz.... as i put a cover on it. so it is impossible for me to touch it lolz. as for purple tint issue, i dunno xD. the only problem i'm having is the screen is pop out at the right hand side. which cause the light sensor to malfunction. i have to press down the screen so that it will detect light properly ~.~

hmm im having the same issue on the right top as well..but havent check how it interfere with the light sensor... what do you mean by light sensor malfunction ? you manage you claim warranty from nokia ?
*
Well, mine is on the top left of the screen. I didn't notice any effect from that. Light sensor, iinm is the sensor that manages the brightness of the screen when u set it on auto.
I'm sending it to SC this week. Hopefully they can do something about it. Really didn't expect this kind of built issue from Nokia. sleep.gif

Where is the cheapest place to buy a Lumia 930 (original warranty)? I know there is a LYN forumer who sells it pretty competitively price.

Appreciate your advice.

Thanks.

I've been using the L930 extensively as my primary phone and the back cover fits tightly to the phone without any movement (I posted some photos on Page 13 in this forum and it stays the same till now on fittings) and no sign of purple hue/tint on the screen so far..

Hey bro Z.. I sent mine to the SC today, showed the staff my problem. She said it can be fix by replacing the screen. (I thought they would just glue it or something. Haha). Anyway, all repairing must be done in their HQ. She didn't tell me when can I expect to get it back but I'll just be optimistic here. Hopefully can get it back next week if Santa grant my wish, also in time for Denim update. Haha. Oh and lastly, since it's still under warranty, there'll be no charges. Hopefully can count on her words lah.

So i suggest u send urs too. Btw what color is ur 930?

How about ur screen? I know the screen isn't flat with the metal frame. But i checked ur 930 pic on page 18, i saw ur top right side surfaced more than the left. I hope it's just my eyes or the pic angle. biggrin.gif

The screen doesn't goes flat into the metal frame and there is a very very small raise on each side

I know bro. That's exactly what i said.

What I'm saying was, ur right side of the screen appears to be raised higher than the left side. Based on what I saw on the pic anyway.

Given the 930 does not have extensible storage, how does the large resolution pic (if using DNG) or 4k vids fit into the 930's memory space?

What's your approach to manage these large media files? Do you shuffle them off to OneDrive or other HDD daily or frequently to free up space on the 930?

this is the most headache 1. However, if 930 come with sd card support the issue still will arrive in 1 day. I usually backup video & pictures, and del. video from phone.

Well, if there's SD card slot you can put in a 64GB card... that's quite a number of DNG images and 4K vids you can store there before having to transfer.

Right now the 930 has less than half the 32 GB available once you installed your apps etc

i think because of those are low end models that not qualified for the camera upgrade.. might less tests to be carried hence release earlier than models equipped pureview camera

What kind of repair service are nokia msia practising? We sent to them to repair 1 thing and they managed to screw up other parts! It's very worrying to know a bunch of amateurs running the service center. If next time u wanna buy nokia/microsoft phones, make sure it is defectless and take really good care of it to avoid having to send it to these bunch of useless noobs.
