i actually can't remember where i got some of them from... goes back a couple of years.

i just update it as the message pops up.

Using a regular Malaysian IP address (202.1xx.xxx.xxx).. No VPN, etc.. What device are you trying to access it on? Perhaps, that's the culprit..

hi guys,

i currently enjoy having kodi + youtube on my sony android tv,
and is currently looking at a way of converting my 7yr-old samsung HD LCD TV to be used on the same way (nothing much, just kodi + youtube)

i'm eyeing this android box :

HiMedia H8 Octa Core (2G RAM+16GB)

user posted image

not sure if it's a bit overkill, but i'm also looking at an opportunity to upgrade to 4K TV in the future
if the LCD goes kaput.. hence the reason to be fixated on that particular android box.

anybody using one currently? how's it going anyhow - any frequent crashes/issues/etc?

You need to install cctv5 FROM tvplus2.0 apk.

Go to shafa, apks installation tab, select tvplus2 to install, from tvplus2 installation screen..click cctv5 icon.

this box is about 1yr old, a current himedia model.

used by quite a no. of people here, u can search and read their comments.
kodi and youtube, 4k videos will be fine on it.
2/16gb is current std, not an overkill esp if u use kodi quasar addon.

if u really want to prepare for a future 4k tv, u can consider a coming model, the himedia q5pro.
this one is also 2/16gb but will have even better video and audio capabilities like 10bit, dts:x.

i will have to try the installation from shafa then.

the one i hv now is installed from a standalone apk.

there is no option to select/install cctv5 at all.

according to this website date, recent, i think:

My 2 cents here after using HiMedia H8 Q 16/2 since Nov last year.

The Good

* support from Nicety when you have problems and also updates on firmware/Android/Kodi/apps. He does the testing and screening for his customers. That takes the time and pain off for me in searching for new add-on and apps, and fixing my problems.
* this H8 is pretty good though it is my first TV box. So good that I cancelled my ASXX a month after getting this H8.
* reliable so far (checked with Nicety before and so far he has no H8 customer returning the box under the warranty when I asked him for the mean time between failure).

The Bad

* find the 2 GB limiting. Need some 200 MB free for it to work properly, otherwise it will hang etc. But if you are only into Kodi and Youtube (with no apps), then this 2 GB should be more than enough.
* remote control - still need a mouse for some Kodi add-ons and apps. I guess this problem applies to most other TV box.

Would I still buy this H8 if I could turn back time knowing what I know now? YES!

Worthwhile trying it out especially if this is your first TV Box. Then use this as your benchmark for future TV Box. High end users may find this H8 lacking but for entry or medium users, I think it is good enough. No voice control, so what? Ha.

All the best in your selection!

I couldn't agree more with plumberly's recommendation.

I have bought two H8 devices from Nicety. The first time I bought was last year for myself. I've been using it since last year and have no complains on this device and of course the technical supports from Nicety. Recently, my relative was looking for a TV box and without hesitation I bought one H8 for my second purchase.

H8 rocks!

this model is disadvantaged, i think becos of the partitioning requirements, such that certain things must be in that 2gb and not the other 16gb.

but like u said, it used correctly, ok. other models do not suffer from this as the partitioning is less rigid - possibly a diff in policies from different chipset suppliers.

remote+mouse... this is universal. becos the apps are built for touch screen mobile devices, not boxes.

so, if u have both remote and mouse, all is good.

I also plan on getting one but not too sure whether it works well between and after the warranty.

Lots of good advice have been offered. Here's my 2 cents.... I'd recommend the trusty Minix Neo U1 or Neo X8-H Plus, however even both could be considered overkill depending on your demands. At least they do not suffer from inefficient RAM usage. If you do not plan on getting a 4K TV for at least another year or 2, you could just get the Raspberry Pi 3 and setup Kodi on it, installing the YouTube addon takes care of YouTube demands. It's much cheaper and capable... So when you eventually require a proper Android box, it's quite likely that newer and better models would have been released.. Allowing the purchase of the latest and greatest.

For the Minix Neo U1 users. The official firmware FW008 has been available for download. Users on the FW007 can simply update using the OTA method. Remember to manually update the XBMC for Minix app (V16. 3.0) too.

The Himedia M6... Personally, I'd be worried about it just having 1GB RAM.. Perhaps you could check in the dedicated Himedia thread for comments from past and or current the users?
