G501JW is more expensive since its ultra slim gaming notebook with dual fans cooling.
New Y50 is using FHD TN display panel, wish they don't use the budget TN panel like the old model.
Y50 in US all using IPS FHD panel, China and MY still using TN FHD panel.    laugh.gif

New Y50 lower their retail price might be due to competition from Acer V nitro and other.

The new ROG is using IPS panel ? Lenovo thread said the refreshed model should be using a better TN panel. So I assume it will be like normal TN panel quality which is fine. Besides that, I believe dual channel 16gb cost > IPS
panel.

Y50 is also using dual fan cooling. Thickness wise, isn't both also 20mm+- ? It is almost about the same thickness sweat.gif
But storage wise, I think Y50 lose cause there is only 1 storage option. No mSata or m2 slot.

If slim is an option, I think HP Omen is also quite good. Its built quality is really as of premium class. I tested it out, the casing and design is really of premium level. Doesn't feel like consumer grade laptop. (The price is also ridiculously overpriced sweat.gif)

You mean 20mm right. 20cm is huge... shocking.gif

Yea, HP Omen. I just hated the ports designated area........ and the overall design to make it look thin....

Thanks for pointing out.
HP Omen quality is really like a premium laptop, just the spec doesn't pair up with the price sweat.gif

Omen do come with large SSD. Price wise, it is on in the same range as the ROG 501 which I do not see anyone calling it overpriced (same class as the MSI slim Ghost series).

Isn't the 512gb version more expensive than G501JW ?

501 comes with only 128gb of ssd.
the price of the ssd alone makes the spec reasonable and not overpriced (look at the price of ultrabooks with that ssd size)

So conclusion is that Y50(59-442222) display already better? Someone can confirm this? notworthy.gif Since last generation display really sucks.
Planning to buy soon , either Z5 / Y50 / GE60 or 62 , of course Y50 is the best price that can get within this spec. Just worry about the display. doh.gif sweat.gif

Ok guys. I have the G551-053 and I have a serious question. What is your total partition space in the laptop? When I open up This PC (formerly known as Computer/My Computer in older OS back in the day), it shows 372GB for C drive and 537GB for D drive. Well as you know this model is 1TB. And I know enough that 1024GB = 1TB. So may I know if any fellow Asus owners of this model have this amount of space or am I bamboozled out of my money?

The only explanation I can think of is that part of the GBs went into the OS and they don't include that in the calculation of the total space when viewed in This PC.

Any ideas?
*
Manufacturers are using 1,000,000,000,000 bytes as approximation of 1TB. To find the actual physical size in TB, you have to divide that figure by 1024*1024*1024*1024. That's ~909GB; exactly your total size. smile.gif

QUOTE(zenquix @ Mar 22 2015, 11:24 AM)
most 1TB drive is actually 1,000,000,000,000 bytes

Not sure if this is the right place to post this. But this is meant to help those with CPU throttling issues on the Acer Nitro.

I have a Acer Nitro VN7-591G-744N with a i7-4720HQ processor. Once in a while randomly, the CPU is stuck at 798 – 837 MHz. CPU fan runs very slowly. Power Options are always set to High Performance or Balanced, not Power Saver. Even when I run any programs or games, the CPU is always stuck at 798 – 837 MHz. I’ve tried reformatting it but it doesn’t help.

You can fix this using ThrottleStop. Uncheck the option called BD Prochot and Click Save. You do not have to click the Turn On Button. From then on it should work properly.

Im using Y50 but the older version, i must say this unless you're used to IPS screen, like me (previously using v nitro & msi ge60, both using IPS display) u dont have to worry about the TN panel. Yes when comparing side by side it'll look ugly but unless u really need an IPS display (designer, etc) then u should buy other laptop OR upgrade the TN to IPS panel for roughly around 300-350. smile.gif but one thing that i love about the Y50 is the temperature when gaming, it is superb, thats what you should look for if u plan to game on it for a long time. nod.gif
