It depend on you.. 860 is ok for now.. but it's not a future proof option for those demanding game (sure cant ply on ultra)
For illegear z5 pls pm prince j for more info.. maybe u can get a discount..

Acer & z5 spec is almost similar except of the 2gb extra vram & sub woofer of z5.. z5 maybe better in term of cooling.. but acer is still good according to storm88

Acer is slimmer so better portability..Acer design is more common while z5 is more gaming design.. very eye attracting.. lol

battery life is another comparison as well.
i noticed many do not consider battery life which is a key thing unless you are using it as a desktop replacement.

Thats why HP is dying. They cant beat aggressive taiwanese brand like asus or msi. Even Acer is smart to make an affordable and decent looking thin laptops.
*
actually their shares are on a rise.
contrary to the market here, overseas market prefer mobility (battery life and size), build quality etc rather than spec/price ratio.

But not malaysians xD We want value over money. Not to mention gst mau mari liao. Lagi no more value. 7k u can get a good gaming laptop with higher specs, ie: gs60, thin and powerful but just hot tongue.gif

Or custom laptops like illgear or aftershock.
*
yup. while it wont be popular here, it will be overseas. i mean compare this with alienware in terms of mobility. while it is a big difference to us, it isn't a big difference due to their stronger currency. if it is all just about spec:price ratio, you wont see business class laptops selling well.

as for me, if i want a powerful machine i'll get a desktop with a mobile laptop to teamviewer to my desktop at home and workstation at the office.

Owh I see. Any problem with your machine so far?  hmm.gif  drool.gif Yea theres a huge different between HDD and SSD. Means if peoples are going to get a SSD better only pick Plextor and Samsung Evo since you said other brands of SSDs performance not that contented.
Considering V15 or V17. But they said V17 storage expansion capability is limited compared to V15 and its hard to access overall.  cool2.gif  doh.gif
*
apple and oranges actually as it just depends if you want a mobile laptop (then go 15") or a desktop replacement (then go 17")

as someone who used a 17" for 7 years and now a 15", it is a big difference. in fact i am considering to get a 14" now despite running virtual machines and heavy remote desktops

Actually not good at ssd, but i look around for reviews. Most brands like samsung, sandisk, crucial or plextor are nearly the same performance. But samsung best bang for buck. Best if u go check out price from shops then search the reviews.

My GE60 has toaster level heat. If i max it and without turning on the cooler booster (max fan speed) cpu cam reach 92, gpu around 90. With the fan max cpu is 89 and gpu 85. Thats my only complaint: hot and noisy. Built quality okay but not excellent. Speakers have high and clear volume, display is samsung pls so viewing angle and contrast very nice.

If only they bother to put better cooling maybe it worth the RM4199 i paid for it. Its the 2nd most expensive 860m laptop. 1st is asus g750jm haha but u paying for good cooling...

Haha. But the review is good, shows samsung ssds are good and if u compare prices they are affordable. Imo m.2 or pcie ssds are overkill, unless ur wallet very thick and u want good benchmarks.

I rather spend on good mobo, cpu and gpu. Standard sata ssd is more than enough.

Comes down to the slot on your laptop as well.

Just get the one which you like the best. Cause most of these model spec is almost the same.
ILLEGEAR and MSI indeed seem more exp. ILLEGEAR is having CNY promotion now so it may be better to get it and the price/spec will be even with other model also. Their service is good, no doubt.
MSI high end model also are very good. If you're going for GE62, just wait for review before purchase.. You don't want to purchase a laptop which may have heat issue potential right ?
MSI is quite OP IMHO, those "features" they provides is quite normal, for me just a marketing strategy. KILLER WIFI or KILLER LAN is also available in ILLEGEAR, AFTERSHOCK and AW. It's not exclusive to MSI also.
For the Keyboard backlit, AW is also programmable so still not exclusive. Well it's up to you anyway smile.gif
For me Aftershock and AW is the best bang of buck. AW is the way to go if you can ignore the slow HDD sweat.gif

P/S: you can also consider Asus ROG G7551JT, it is also a very good option, good built quality also. JUST YOU NEED TO GAMBLE YOUR LUCK ON ASUS WARRANTY. Capped it in case you can't see it. Asus warranty is very bad most of the time.
*
Just show that marketing gimmick works for MSI just like how Razer did with all the gaming peripherals which most progamers on a competitive level do not use (koreans still use DT-35 as their godly keyboard for 300+ apm).

Anyways, the slower HDD is good if you are concerned with battery life which I guess is the reasoning behind it. Personally, I don't mine a slow HDD as some games have loads of interesting information during the loading (DA:I is the most recent one I encountered)

I need a laptop can last at least (3 years) for gaming and every day use.

Which one should I get - Acer vnitro black edition or the lenovo y50?

And thats a good review in page 112, i read all of it and it means the battery of acer vnitro cannot be removed?? I'm the type that plugs from power supply all the time, wouldnt that spoil my battery?

Seems like the price for Acer v nitro is 3699RM with GST, sigh. Thats quite pricey coming from 3399Rm one month ago. (I went digital mall most of them charged around 3.7kRM)

QUOTE(AthrunIJ @ Apr 18 2015, 03:27 PM)
Well,

Both the cooling system is fine with the y50 getting the edge as the Acer needs some tweaking.

No, Li Ion batteries is preferred to be charge as soon as possible. Deep discharge and recharge is bad for the battery. Most of the time battery life span reduce is because of heat and bad battery.

Specs wise they both are on par.

Cooling wise same but need some tweaking on acer part.

screen wise. Lenovos screen isnt the best as it has a lot of complaint while if i remember correctly acer is using IPS panel.

As long as you keep it well. It will last you a long time.

Happy hunting.
*
the keyboard of the y50 is much better too if you do type a lot.
as a complete package i would go with the y50 despite the average screen (I am actually ok with it then again I come from the age where CRTs were a norm lolx)

Trust me, i would prefer CRTs over my Y50 shitty TN panel. biggrin.gif sweat.gif

i actually prefer the Y50 screen because it makes it so much easier to read codes (when i evaluate my student's code on his laptop).

simple because as many others have pointed out here (like @Miong), u are flooding the thread with TLDR discussion that have no relation with the topic at all.
yet I got called a troll and a kid with a report doh.gif
posting meme images on serious discussions aren't the way to go if you wanna call someone troll/ kid to the point the tldr/ meme images need to be placed in a spoiler tag.
i am sure mods can testify that i do not troll with my posts.

---

OT: really personal insult after the report? talk about being salty shakehead.gif you are probably one of those i call out back then from the gaming e-peen sessions for posting TLDR spam on threads/ dramas which you do have a reputation of. u can bring this to my PM instead of this thread as I do not want the topic to be derailed further.

I just wanna know if the battery of acer v nitro is removable haha?

And it's 8GB memory ram, same as my current laptop hmm.

Tweaking of the fan? Acer got their own software IINM right?
*
you can use third party app like speedfan to control the fan speed aswell

Thanks for pointing out.
HP Omen quality is really like a premium laptop, just the spec doesn't pair up with the price sweat.gif
*
Omen do come with large SSD. Price wise, it is on in the same range as the ROG 501 which I do not see anyone calling it overpriced (same class as the MSI slim Ghost series).

Isn't the 512gb version more expensive than G501JW ?
*
501 comes with only 128gb of ssd.
the price of the ssd alone makes the spec reasonable and not overpriced (look at the price of ultrabooks with that ssd size)
