@AcerDeatH

If your budget is around 3-4k.. you got plenty of choices..

MSI, Lenovo if you can tahan the serious heat issue of those laptop

Asus if you can tahan the after sales service

Acer if you can tahan the period to wait for your unit to have stock

Illegear/Aftershock if you can higher ur budget as most of their laptop come w/o OS (their laptop so far I felt that it's the best of buck compare to others, good service though)

Dell if you can tahan some of the laptop spec is not as good as other brand.. but aw so far the build quality and after sales service is really good

All got pros and cons, just pick 1 which you feel you can endure the cons the most..

Finally, another distributor to compete with Illegear. I bought from Illegear because there is no other distsributor of Clevos at the time. However, their customer service is a big big disappointment. They're not exactly very competitive in pricing, either.

Aftershock would be a welcome change for the Malaysian market!

Wah.. seldom ppl say illegear service not nice wo.. mind elaborate ?? Cuz i just bought a laptop from them >__<

I am getting my son a new notebook to play games, currently he has a Dell 17" with i7 8GB (bought 2 years ago) and he added a SSD card but complains that it overheat and shuts down. He plays games non-stop on weekends. So, was thinking of getting him a new notebook and was considering MSI GE60 2PE Apache Pro or ASUS G551.

Spent the last 3 hours reading the threads here in LYN and I noted that one person said the MSI a frying pan, hahaha, and ASUS G551 no slot for m.SATA or SSD.

So, need advise from you guys on ACER V Nitro which is good for my pocket.

1. ACER V Nitro got extra slot for m.SATA or SSD?
2. Any heat issue? Keyboard hot?
3. Fan Noise.
4. And what you like most about the ACER V Nitro.

lerijiso - Bro, would appreciate if you could do a brief review of your Acer V Nitro especailly on heat, i.e. unit hot?
*
So far a lot ppl said MSI GE60 Apache Pro have heat issue.. cpu & gpu can go up to 90 degree when full load..
You try go youtube or google lo.. can check notebookcheck website also.. there got detailed review.

As for Asus.. most ppl complain about their after sale service..

Here is the full unboxing + little review by storm88. Inside will answer almost all your answer.. have a look biggrin.gif

Thank you Sir for your reply and I did check out storm88's unboxing  before I posted earlier.

Yes, storm88 was very kind to post lots of photos and provided valuable info, i.e. SSD slot, even showing the twin fans (more importantly it blows to the rear) which only kicks in later, etc.

However, I would appreciate some feedback from ACER V Nitro owner(s) who have been using their unit for some time now.

Anyway, after I posted, I visited DELL and they got Alienware 13 but for the RM3999 unit no SSD and i5. I googled for reviews on the Alienware 13 fan noise and noted some people complaining. My eldest son got Alienware 14 (bought in US were it is much cheaper) and the fan really noisy but no problems with the unit which is close to 2 years old. Now I must go find out if the Alienware 13 got extra slot for SSD.
*
Then let's hope there's some acer user to feedback to you soon.. Acer V Nitro have limited stock i think.. so not much user around here.. But there's still some smile.gif

I do agree with aw spec.. Sometime the spec is below other brand while it's the same price range.. you can find some dealer in here, sometime they can offer cheaper.. But DELL have good after sales support so maybe that add up to the price

Or you can try out other model like illegear/aftershock.. Both laptop are semi customizable.. or you can go fully customizable.. So far their service seems good and very seldom got ppl complain.. but most of their machine come w/o OS.. I assume it's not a problem if you can transfer your son's license key from his old laptop to the new one (old 1 need to be deactivated)

Does illegear RX-15 also a good product? Does any here brought Illegaer and top up warranty.
*
I can't find any RX-15 detail from their website.. maybe it's a old model ? not sure though.. So far there's not much ppl complain about illegear..

I ordered my z5 on Wednesday and make payment on Thursday.. they shipped it on Saturday (yesterday)..
Their preparation can consider fast gua.. but I think I will only receive the item on Wednesday or so.. Cause it's GDEX doh.gif The courier is not good.. lol

If you're talking about spec wise.. It will be more or less the same lo.. maybe be a bit exp if you include OS..
But most of their product doesn't have heat issue and the build quality is good

Its like a discussion here from sifus

So dont mind me asking, seems like mst ppl here r lookg at the same thg as me with almost the same budget.

Since 970/80 is way out of my budget for future proof lappy, is 860 good?? After some addons for illegear z5 is over rm4k. Or should i stick with nitro for lesser. Primary would be gaming and autocad 3d. Any input would be appreciated as it wil direct me to the other product lol
*
It depend on you.. 860 is ok for now.. but it's not a future proof option for those demanding game (sure cant ply on ultra)
For illegear z5 pls pm prince j for more info.. maybe u can get a discount..

Acer & z5 spec is almost similar except of the 2gb extra vram & sub woofer of z5.. z5 maybe better in term of cooling.. but acer is still good according to storm88

Acer is slimmer so better portability..Acer design is more common while z5 is more gaming design.. very eye attracting.. lol

Hmm..many nice comments

Yeah i know.. Just add on few more to get 970 what i want. And at that price pushing the bdget abit.

I have surveyed all lol.. Now waiting my decisions and hopefully some persuasive comment here lol
*
If you can up your budget to about 5k.. then go for Aftershock s15.. but make sure you read more reviews first.. s15 is indeed a beast based on the price & spec ratio brows.gif

If you can't go beyond your budget which is < 4k, then go for Acer / z5 or any other laptop which suits you.. I personally prefer z5 because it has better cooling & sub woofer.. the battery is 8 cell also.. so better battery life..

You can wait till next year to see whether the price will drop or not.. but make sure you buy your laptop before GST is implemented..

A slight advise, it's good to hear others opinion but don't let it affect you too much.. what's the point of buying a laptop which others like but not yourself hmm.gif
Also don't wait too long.. cuz new thing keep coming out.. If wait too long it will be infinite waiting.. in the end you won't get anything sweat.gif

He loves his new V Nitro and he did say "thank you papa", haha
Dota2, Counter Strike, Final Fantasy XIV, Battlefield and can't remember the rest but he does not play COD or Assassin's Creed (pocket money not enough for him to purchase the games, hahahaha).

He said Final Fantasy XIV is very smooth on his V Nitro and better than his old Dell i7 with 8GB RAM.
I got no idea about the booting since I just gave him the sealed box V Nitro unit and the rest he handled himself.

I just asked him and he said the booting quite fast.
I just asked my son, he said he did not even update any drivers and started playing upon transferring his games (via USB from his SSD card) and his unit so far so good.
Congrats on your new toy  tongue.gif

Please do give a review after trying out your new Z5 and the final specs and price.

I think I can't review much.. Been very busy with projects and setting up my laptop, once it's set-ed up I need to rush for the deadline ad doh.gif So no gaming for few months cry.gif

You can pm me if you wanna know more on it though smile.gif

Was reading alot about notebooks with 860m and it brought me here lol.
I bought the GE60 with 860m few months ago and imo MSI should follow how acer or asus deals with quality control and heating issues.

edit: i mean in regards to v15 nitro or the g551
*
Can tell me which model you get ? is it MSI GE60 Apache Pro ?
I heard a lot ppl said when it's under full load or intense gaming it is very hot..
You got this problem also ??
My friend's one is so damn hot even with a cooler + turbo fan + IC diamond thermal + setting processing power to Max 90% hmm.gif

Guys, I wanna ask MSI GE60 or Acer V Nitro which is recommended? Cause I wanted to buy Acer V Nitro from Sunway Acute IT shop but he said sold out. Then, they asked me to wait or recommend me to buy MSI
*
Depend which MSI GE60 they recommend you. If it's MSI GE60 Apache Pro then I suggest you don't get it. Cause there's heat issue. Above few post got mention his own MSI is having heat issue, cpu and gpu can go up to 90 degree c.
Your hand won't feel comfortable when gaming on a machine that hot. (ignore external keyboard option)

i don't think MSI uses LG-IPS.

MSI GE60-2PE uses AHVA

+1 to this.. I think MSI GE60 2PE is using AHVA.. So Acer V Nitro is using LG's AH-IPS ?!
If it's true then it's one hell of a machine for that price range..
AH-IPS is the best right ? is it ? hmm.gif

Ahh... checked with my device checker and it is identified as Samsung 156HL01-102, which AHVA.

Yes v15 is using LG one. Therefore ur best lappy to go for smile.gif
*
Haha.. then Nitro indeed is best buck for that spec.. But I'm satisfied with my Z5 biggrin.gif
2 hours+ BF4 and COD:AW gaming on high settings 1080p.. gpu and cpu capped on 67 degree and 58-64 on average..
The cooling is the best I think among other same spec model brows.gif

Not sure, but my GE60 doesnt recharge the battery unless it is less than 90%. So sometimes when playing intense games and the adaptor (120w) cant supply enough power to the laptop it will use up some from the batt. If play simple games like cs:go no prob but when play crysis 3 the batt will slowly drain until below 90% then only it recharges. I guess this helps to increase batt lifespan...
I also already ask other people in msi forums with their msi. Seems msi implement this tech across their gaming laptops.
*
That's the part I like MSI, Dell also have an option to turn off battery charging when power adapter is plugged in..
Too bad most laptop didn't have this kind of utility
