Has anyone bought tint film from taobao and tried installing?

Easier to buy, maybe tougher to install……

Hi sifus, wanna ask - is it ok if my tint doesn't comply with JPJ specs? SA advised that if i go ahead with JPJ spec tinting, will feel very hot (I'm just getting the cheapo RM500 tinting, so IRR will be very low). He suggested that i get windshield 50% VLT (JPJ: 70%), front seats 30% (JPJ: 50%) and back seats 20%.

Wanted to hear everyone's opinions on whether it's a common practice to not comply with JPJ specs, and what are the risks of kena saman? Heard that saman cases due to tinting is less rampant lately.

Appreciate any kind of sharing or feedback or advise as I'm a first time carbuyer. Thank you in advance!!
*
Me too same info was given by the SA. He said usually if our car tint of front windscreen still visible can see the person inside, the police will not ask us go jpj to test during roadblock. But I thought during roadblock they can use the device to immediately test and know the vlt already. I am deciding vlt 70 for jpj compliant or 40 for more cooling at my front windscreen. Any experiences to share ?

Afaik with JPJ roadblocks the officers are issued one of two types of meters;

The first type is similar to the one our tint installers use, meaning the need to put the glass in between it to measure, which technically means they only have the ability to measure side windows. In those instances, you’ll pass as long as your front side windows measure above 50% VLT. Do note that many 50% VLT films will end up measuring lower once combined with the window glass, so in this case a 55% - 60% VLT film is a safer bet.

The second type is a two piece device that’s like two sticks. That one can measure any glass. The officer will hold one end outside over the windshield car and pull the other end inside (through your side window) to align it under your windshield. The problem with that decice is that they’re the same models Puspakom uses which are (I suspect intentionally) calibrated in such a way that they will fail those inspected vehicles that are below 76 or 77% VLT (some places only 80% VLT will pass), so there’s a high chance you’ll fail that test anyway even if your tint is legal.

Usually they let you off if they can see your face. If not, just be polite about it and tell them that in this weather sticking to 70% “tak boleh hidup lah bang” and they will close one eye most of the time.

TL;DR = “Kalau dia boleh nampak you punya muka suda boleh lah” as most of the tint installers will tell us laugh.gif

Haha interesting. Like that ah?

The affordable price make people question mark for the quality. I gambled this brand 3 years ago cz spec decent but price cheap. Luckily it still work on 3rd year

Does totalgard gives warranty against degraded tser after a period of time? Standard warranty is how many years?

So I guess most windscreens bare without any tint is in the range of VLT 75% to 80%.

I've not encountered any roadblock for the past 20+ years in nabbing vehicles with dark tints. Touch wood. I have seen such operasi before but my car wasn't stopped. But with the most recent announcement by the government in 2019 it was mentioned RM2k fine or jail, so if they take it seriously this time I presume a lot of vehicles will not pass in a JPJ roadblock.

That's the reason I am asking if anyone here has experienced his/her vehicle being tested in a JPJ roadblock. I will surely not put any tint on the front windscreen if JPJ is going all out on the operasi. For the front side windscreens, it is still ok to pick one with VLT 75% I guess since the limit is VLT 50% Better than nothing.

I see, thanks for the pricing. So, V-kool Elite (front), VK55 (front side) and VK30(rear side and rear) costs RM4850 and V-kool Elite whole car only costs RM2388? Big difference there. Might as well just do whole car with V-kool elite if it's just RM2388 and just stick a 2nd layer of cheap dark tint on the side rear and rear. maybe just adding RM200-300 to make it darker for anyone who desires darker windscreens at the rear?? Much cheaper that way than doing the full optimal V-kool option at RM4850?

Looks like Irispro is much cheaper.

Good information thanks. Will inquire when the time is right.

How about vkool premier? Seems like spec wise is better than elite right.

I was sceptical back then, 2020 for 2 things, over spec claim if it was and degradation warranty. 1st, they ask me to test the tester as usual at tint shop, ok totally buy it. Then verified via meter for IRR at 99% - 100%. In my case maybe due to many questions back then, the SA put written note for degradation warranty by hand writing, with no idea how is the warranty, is it easy or hard to claim. Last Friday, claim sunroof tint due to dust last time, was busy to attend this claim cz need weekdays. Easy to claim without no questions raised

Hi all.. need help deciding between Llumar and 3M.

3M Crystalline - RM3500 (windshield 70, rest 50)
Llumar Pinnacle - RM3000 (whole car 50)

Specs are almost the same between the 2 brands i.e. decent TSER, high IRR. However, 3M gives 5 year warranty and Llumar is 10 years warranty. Also, Llumar says they will pay for any JPJ saman if got caught at roadblock. Not sure how that works.

Used rhinepro for almost 4 years. Cheap (got mine done for less than 1k)

Pros:
Good heat rejection, felt really cooling
My shop got quite good workmanship, no bubbles up till now
Cheap

Cons:
The 70vlt had a blue tint that i didn't like. Obstruct visibility during rain. I went back to shop, they say they never had anyone complain this issue. But nevertheless willing to redo for me. Since they say tint no issue, i also dun doubt them, i jz retint to 50%vlt (since all other windows are fine.) Not jpj compliant but ok la, better than poor visibility during rain (strong light dispersion)
Color fade really quickly. Mine is almost illegal type of dark esp at night. In 2 years, faded a lot. In 4 years, almost completely gone d
Heat rejection also will decrease, but not by alot. Maybe about 20-30% after 4 years.

May I know what series you took for Rhinepro ?

I really can't recall when was the last time I was stopped at road block for checking on tints. I believe there's none, not even once. I was only stopped by police for speeding during roadblocks, and that too was very rare. Nowadays I don't see any roadblocks anymore unlike 15 or 20 years ago mainly for speeding or checking on tints. Perhaps I was lucky that the route I was using did not have any road blocks, I don't know.

I'm not sure about V-Kool Premier as my experience was only with V-Kool Elite, proven to be good. My other experiences:-

Huper Optik - Good but doesn't last long, tint loses efficiency after 3 years and after 5 years it feels like there's no tint on the vehicle. Price range : RM1.6k - 2k for C-segment.
Totalgard - Cheap but not good especially the tint on the front windscreen. Feels very hot like there's no tint. Only good thing is it's cheap RM500 or 600 for whole car. To me it's best avoided.
Coolgard - Mid-price but rather effective. Currently installed the front windscreen on my car, RM900 just for front windscreen alone.

Wonder if anyone has experience tinting the sun visor strip on cars with built in dash cam and ADAS sensors such as Toyota Vios 2024?

My Vios comes with ECOtint which i find ok and don't plan to change it. But not having the sun visor tint is annoying during early morning.

My concern is removing the dashcam and sensors for tinting only, accessories shop told me too tedious to tint small part due to this. Seems like shop isn't interested in doing just small portion?

There are many ranges in each brand tho...for eg, totalgard 500-600 cheap lor, so many it is one of their lowest end tint (just assumption since you never mention the range that you install). They have their own more premium priced range.

If I've not mistaken Totalgard's top 2 range is around this price range. I took the Infusion Pro. Even the top-of-the-range most expensive tint, for whole car it's less than RM1k if I'm not mistaken.

It's OK. Once bitten, twice shy. I was trying my luck with this Totalgard due to the good reviews here and mouth-watering low price of RM600 for whole car. After this experience, I won't be considering tints cheaper than RM1k for the whole car already.

Maybe those who had better luck with Totalgard have gone with low VLT for front windscreen ie. VLT 30% or 20% so the heat rejection performance might be a bit better. I don't know. In my case VLT65% for front windscreen it's very hot as the heat from the sun still gets through and burn my skin. The current Coolgard tint (RM800+ just for front windscreen only) performs much better, luckily.

I've just rechecked on the price. That's inflated price. The promo Titanium prices are RM1288, 1388 and 1588.

Forgot to mention the quoted prices are higher. In store there's still reduction or discounts.

Original quoted prices for Titanium Plus are RM3k+ but in reality it starts at RM1.2k+. There are further discounts too if you are lucky.
