hi sifu-sifu,

Is V-kool really good? Quoted their top range solitaire series, about 2k for front windscreen + driver + front passenger windows.....mine is MPV so the windscreen is huge, the rear windows and rear windscreen had been double darken tint. So only need to tint the front 3 pcs to avoid JPJ/polis kacau and get good heat protection.
*
Maybe a bit late in answering, but 3 of my cars are tinted with VKool Elite....or more like VKool Elite in FWS and VKool 70 on all side and rear.

2 of my cars lasted 15 years before delamination aka blurring appear. However heat reduction seems to work as well as 15 years ago or at least feel like it.

So I would still vouch for VKool 70 if want clear tint especially for its heat reduction capabilities. After so many years, can still feel the heat reduction worked very well.
Why VKool elite in FSW, coz smart tag can use albeit sometimes signal detection a bit slow and its VLT of 73% are borderline pass/fail in Puspakom. VKool-70 FSW sure fail.
Vkool-70 also got problem with smart tag detection and those IR card detection in housing entrance. Vkool Elite also same but sometimes can detect card.

I'm not sure why but phone signal although still doing well might have a bit of interference which is made more obvious in places with very low signal strength. Last time, have to sometime wind down windows for GPS signal at weak signal area but new phones nowadays rarely encounter this.

Actually so-called Solitaire is the original VKool series. VKool 70 is the original premium clear tint that worked the best. Due to IR signal issue aka smart tag thingy and JPJ, they came out with the so called euro spec VKool-75 then, which is renamed as VKool Elite, I heard then. After that VKool Elite becomes the all around standard but the installer then told me its actually VKool-75 FSW and rest VKool-70. Now its all call VKool Elite, so not sure they change spec or not.

Has anyone found a tint that is comparable to V-kool's performance at around RM2k or less. 😁
If there's none I suppose V-kool may be one of the best choice if heat rejection performance is top priority, but at a price.
*
VKool super expensive but I believe it is still the best tint with performance drop that can last. Got 3 old cars with VKool Elite, 17 years, 15 years and 12 years. The heat resistance still worked good even up to now albeit slightly degraded. The tint also started to degrade (blurring) from year 14 onwards. Will be changing the tints. Will installed back VKool Elite, at least for the front windscreen, still the best clear tint with high heat resistance THAT can still worked with smart tag. Other high spec tints like 3M and Raytech with 70% VLT got problem with smart tag. Cost a bomb tho if you can afford it.

iirc my dad's old car with Vkool won't work and less chance it will work for the smart tag (old type bulky one), believe cz of Metallic Based tint. Agreed on the heat rejection quality of the Vkool, it lasted long up until the car was let go. On my car with Ceramic based tint, it works for Smart Tag but has less power for heat rejection compared to Metallic based tint. Recently many brands cw Sputtering tint based, which for me an equivalent to or better than Metallic based tint.
*
If old car, might be the original Vkool 70, that one has problem working. Then they change to VKool Elite (for JPJ and Smart Tag), something like VKool 75 euro spec (that is the actual spec last time, don't know they change or not). But based on the spec now, it seems like it becoz euro spec is slightly higher than original VKool 70, based on the brochure, 70-71% VLT with 3mm windscreen glass, meaning the actual spec should be around 73 to 75%.

My cars still uses the smart tag 1st gen (bulky type) and 3rd gen. (2nd gen lost don't know where). Detection is definitely slower thus I have to put the smarttag very close to Windscreen and slow down, can feel it detect slower than Vios original tint but still they worked all the time. Those IR housing signal tags don't work tho. Even remote control, have problem working, have to move the car near or delay a bit to work.

Still very borderline VLT for Puspakom but better than other tint stated "JPJ Compliant" when their spec of 70% is the actual tint themselves without inclusion of windscreen.

Yes I believe so. I used to have V-kool Elite on one of my old cars about 16 years ago for all windscreens front, side and rear. Even though it's not the highest spec tint, the heat rejection is the best I've experienced. It costs RM3.6k back then for my C-segment sedan. I believe if going with combination of V-kool Elite for front windscreen and V-kool 55, 40, 30 or 10 for side and rear windscreens, the heat rejection performance would be even better but the cost would be higher.

Fast forward to today, I believe prices are all higher now so it might cost RM5k to 7k to do the whole car with V-kool depending on the model of tint. If you have the budget, then it's good to go with V-kool again since it is proven to be good. No risk involved as it is a gamble if you with other cheaper tints which might or might not deliver the results that you want.

I now have Huper Optik Sech60 for front windscreen and C40 for all side and rear windscreens, all done up for RM1.7k ten years ago and cannot recommend it even though it's cheaper than V-kool. I find the heat rejection of the Huper Optik to be poor even when new. After 3 years, the car felt even hotter and after 5 or 6 years, if feels like there is no more tint on the car although it's still there stuck to the windscreens.

Now, according to ayamxx the Totalgard tint is comparable in heat rejection performance to the V-kool. The Totalgard costs around RM1k vs RM6k V-kool so it may be too good to be true but there's already one case here. I don't mind if the RM1k tint does not perform as good as RM7k tint since you can't complain much for the price you are paying. However, it must not be so poor that it gives only little difference when installed on the car. The Huper Optik at RM1.7k works well too but it is inferior to V-kool and also does not last long. Not sure how the Totalgard will compare to the Huper Optik or Vkool though.

If there are anymore cases of Totalgard users here who have switched from V-kool or Huper Optik, please share your experience here.

Quoted by HQ earlier, VKool Spec VK Elite (FWS), VK55 (Front Side) - Correction (earlier stated VK50), VK30 (RWS, Rear Side) for Civic 4850, for CRV 5350.

Anyway, there are also tints with very good performance for first year, so super until subsequent years drop like a rock till like no tint. VK experience means heat resistance can last real long. I also reluctant to change rear windscreen coz the risk of demister torn off is also very high. So normally I try to go for the best tint, at least rear windscreen. Front windscreen also try to go for VKool Elite due to the borderline compliancy (appx 70 to 71% with 3mm glass). Others can change more frequently if needed to. Also the nice greenish hue colouring for VK even 17 years, still there.

For VK, I will either install via NVK (HQ) or Tint-Shop to be sure. Forget abt other dealers, now even less dealer doing this coz the high price priced them out from most ppl except for super rich and die hard (like me, if I can afford it...hahaha).

I'm now looking at Raytech highest spec CS range for my old cars replacement but still thinking to put VK Elite on front windscreen due to smart tag issue and highest clear tint effectiveness to prevent dashboard fading.

Put aside the jpj/puspakom compliant factor, which one has better heat performance?

1. VK55 (FWS) + VK40 (front side)
2. V-kool Elite (FWS) + VK40 (front side)

I got the quote for both combo above, the #1 is higher price by rm500 compared to #2. Is VK55 better performance than Elite?
They told me VK55 is latest Solitaire series as compare to Elite which is Serendipity series (older model).
*
Forget about latest or oldest. If you want JPJ compliancy for VK, it has to be Elite in FSW, borderline compliancy depending on your windscreen thickness, etc as the 71VLT is based on Std 3mm glass, not sure what other spec affect it.

Your front side spec VK40 already below JPJ compliancy of 50 VLT. VK70 is the best clear tint u can get from VK. If u don't mind compliancy, for VK tint unlike those house brand, the darker the tint should give better heat resistance. Since VK70 TSER is 55 vs VK55 TSER 60, based on spec alone VK55 is superior in heat resistance. I tend to trust VK given TSER but that's me. Notice the darker the tint, the more expensive it is for VK and their specs reflected that.

Oh just a feedback on Horus tint, despite claiming the highest TSER rating out of other brands, my windscreen on 70% VLT tint seems to be still quite hot can feel the heat thru the windscreen during middle of the day..
*
As long as using clear tint VLT 70%, no matter how high, TSER max out at 60. VK at 55. So you don't feel the high heat at mid-day sun, that would have been weird.

For me, as layman, I only feel if the heat is stinging. If it burned and sting like hell, then the tint is not working. If super high temp, can still feel sting but only minor. Usual midday, my car old VK70, I think losing the resistance liao, I can only feel very minor sting. On hot evening, hot like hell although cool fast but no sting. So I think it is still working.

I think I'm giving up on VKool, IMO, still the longest lasting (effectiveness) best but the price at 4850 just for City, 5100 for X50 is getting harder to swallow now when I start feeling budget constraint...

Of course, that price is the most premium JPJ compliant set (VK Elite FSW, VK55 front side, VK30 for the rest)

Don't know Raytech highest spec solar tint CS range good or not but heard the front tint cannot pass Smart tag..like that cannot ler..

What else is premium but fairly priced but lasting and good, 3M tak boleh, smart tag cannot pass.

72% TSER 99% IRR

Maybe windshield angle plays a part as you said i guess. And the aircon on the car also isnt very strong so that might contribute to the stinging feeling as well
*
Aish....these tints stated TSER really have to be taken with a grain of salt, much less impossible TSER like this. Then again you might not know when you install earlier. The moment rubbish TSER like this was quoted, I won't even bother with a 2nd look.

Even some of the best proven clear tint (70%) with IRR so strong that it block smart tags has only 45 to 55 TSER. So 72% number is so far fetch that I would run and never install anything from installer who ever stated that spec for their tint. Even if they actually believe it then even the more reason to avoid them.

But what's done is done. Either you live with it until you tak boleh tahan or go re-tint with another tint brand if you can afford it. Just hope the tint does not bubble

But then again, is it possible you might misread or mistype 72% VLT as TSER?

QUOTE(dev/numb @ Aug 14 2023, 11:26 AM)
As I stated, this car was bought for mum so I’ve had limited time behind the wheel, but initial impression is that it’s much better than the Toyota factory tint and the 3M Crystalline (which might have been a bad batch or fake) that was in her previous car. Front can still feel slight heat on very hot days (because there’s still a limit to what 60% VLT can do, same for my own car with V-kool 70 on the front and 55 on the sides), but there’s no stinging on the skin. Rear 30% VLT is extremely good. Possibly the best I’ve experienced. Car also cools down relatively fast after parking out in the sun, and once cooled down you don’t hear the “Auto” function on the air-con increasing/decreasing the fan speed to maintain temperature. It just stays low throughout the trip, whether driving under sun or shade.

Downsides are that my condo entry card reader doesn’t work, but auto-gate remote for mum’s landed house works, just that the distance is shorter (3 houses became 1 house distance). This is likely because the tint is blocking the signal but it’s still managing to pass through other parts of the car like the A-pillar or door seals. For keycard reader, no hope because window has to be parallel to scanner, so no choice but to wind down window. Phone signal also seems compromised a bit. Haven’t experienced any no-signal issues while on cellular or GPS so far, but when at mum’s house previously this phone could receive her wifi when inside the car while parked in the porch, but now cannot. Haven’t tested any SmartTag yet, because I use regular TnG or RFID on bumper.

Lastly, as with most multi-sputter/metallic tints, there’s a glossy mirror effect from the outside with a blue/green-ish color which might not suit all car colors. IrisPro is more blueish (aquamarine maybe), while V-kool is more green/yellow. If you prefer a charcoal/neutral tint then I guess ceramic tints are the best way to go.
*
I'm going to redo 2 of my cars tints due to blurring aging tint (over 15 years VKool). VKool now too expensive to re-tint on the cars.

Now only need to know if smart tag can work.

The price is pretty ok with the quality you mentioned. Although not sure how fast it degrade. VKool experience has very slow degradation rate in my experience on 3 decade old cars.
Also considering Raytech CS70 (highest solar range, I think) but not sure about smart tag either coz got ppl mentioned cannot pass.

Why not using Rfid?

All my cars got RFID and used it all the time but at peak hour in morning, sometimes RFID super long queue especially if car cannot pass thru. Now practically used smart tag for first toll (long queue) and the rest RFID. So smart tag is still very relevant in my case.

May I know what are the 2 cars you plan to retint? More than 15 years old car and you are considering keeping both vehicles longer, must be precious to you.
*
No money to change cars lor. Cars still in very excellent condition both engine and chassis wise (change fully every 5 to 7k or 6 months, coating every year to keep paint shiny), lots of parts, mounting, etc change liao, spend a bundle of repairs already and resale price not worth to sell when it is in good working condition. However still worry one day, the repair cost will suddenly shoot up when something major fail but not choice....

Coz we need 1 additional car some more due to extra family member coming of age. So tak da money to upgrade and have to plan buy another at full price without trade in.....

So die die have to keep these 2 cars ..or die die 3 cars working...got another 2011 proton persona but that VKool Elite tint still in excellent conditions for its age and very high mileage (my working car due to cheap maintenance).

What cars, if you don’t mind me asking?

*
Currently 2008 Civic FD and 2006 City Vtec. Both VKool Elite original tint since the beginning. Heat resistant and UV still worked fine under sun (dashboard no discolouration even after so many years under sun) but tint started blurring liao and tints start tearing/scratch for no reason. Accs shop ppl say tint wearing out, start detaching or something. Thats why I say VKool excellent durability and slow degradation but price is super expensive now. I will only consider it for new car (long term) if budget allows.

I would say take the listed spec with a grain of salt. OEM can claim anything and most failed when really tested.

Established branded tints specs baru can trust a bit. Some tints TSER actually worked as claimed but 2nd year, 3rd year, the effectiveness dropped like rocks.

So if you really only looking at specs to decide, then go for established brands but those comes with more premium pricing.

Many tints compared to VKool...but VKool worked as listed and last really long with minimal drop in effectiveness over the years. That is established brand for you. Of course if the VKool used are not fake. Many fake out there.

I also now looking at alternative for my 2 old cars and pending 1 new car coz the prefered VKool are now price so high, I really cannot afford.

Considering front tint used VKool Elite coz VLT is good, TSER worked, last really long (effectiveness) and Smart tag worked. Then the rest used others.

Now considering IRISPro, don't know smart tag can work or not, if not, really have to consider tinting VKool Elite in FWS coz that garantee to smart tag friendly and TSER worked. Rarely does a tint comes with 10 years warranty and 10 years performance warranty (the first i heard). It is one of the the rare few that listed the nm used for reference test although don't know what is that..hahahaha.

Tempted to try coz price more premium than budget but definitely way below VK. Now still budgeting and dragging it out.

i echo this statement. 97% iRR cannot work with smartag. < 95% can
actually vkool elite is not so elite one.. only 94% IRR
*
Over 15 years ago, no VKool Elite. All use the true flagship VKool 70. Smart tag cannot pass. Then they start using VKool euro spec 75 for FWS. That one can work for smart tag but with noticeable lesser TSER. Then they come out with VKool Elite package which I believe is VKool 75. At that time, the FWS is using VKool 75 and the rest VKool 70 for elite package. Confirmed by my installer that I know then. Now I not sure if the side and rear screen called Elite are using VKool 75 or maintained the original VKool 70.

My old cars that has elite lasted over 15 years up to now garanteed using VKool 70. So I'm a fan of VKool Elite for durability and effectiveness. The FWS tho are likely still 75 coz smart tag can pass. Unfortunately after 15 years, the tint start to blur liao. So no choice but to plan for change but dragging due to cost. Still want to use premium tint tho coz driving for around 4 hours daily commuting, good tint is a godsend especially for car dash, cushion protection.

So although Elite is not so elite, its a proven best clear tint with long history of lasting effectiveness. Darn the super premium price.

My wife was asking, since most tints have 99% UV protection and I ops for 98% IRR. Is there any possibility for fungus to grow inside the car... Asking for my wife...
*
If you use smart tag or those infraredcard or tag to access housing estate, you might not be able to use them if IRR is really 98%.

Fungus growing in car is due to moisture trapped in car like wet carpet, leaked rain water on car floor, etc. In another word, large amount of water or wet things in trapped in car. With or without tint, fungus will grow if trapped long enuf.

Otherwise, I don't think even dark tint has any issue with fungus growth.

I might be getting a car with a discounted Raytech tint.

Offered a raytech free tint lowest AC or AX grade.
If I buy the car, I will upgrade it (at a big discount) to QC series package (2nd highest grade) coz the IRR is 90%.

Would have chosen the highest Ultra/RC grade but heard many already say Ultra70 not smart tag friendly due to 98% IRR? Side windows also 98%, so I just select QC range 2nd highest grade with 90%, so got less issue with smart tag and those infrared house tags/card.

So now checking on spec first, will IRR 90 have issue with smart tag signal?
Updated : Raytech confirmed only the highest RC / RX range not smart tag friendly. The rest, smart tag friendly.

I'm going to drop by Puspakom one day for the RM15 tint test. Can walk in. Going to switch my old Honda City to my daughter but the VKool Elite front windscreen only 2 years old....Sakit hati to tear it off the almost new premium tint. So have to go try test it first. If really cannot pass, might not transfer name.

Last week got free time, drove all the way there....then they say need Car Reg card to register even just for voluntary tint test. Got turned back. Switching name to own daughter with no monetary transaction also so troublesome.

Just had my car tint done at IrisPro Puchong. Highly recommended. The workmanship is top notch. Got free upgrade some more. Look for Ms. Ling. Detailed explanation on the spec and price in WhatsApp. Another detailed explanation and given before they start working on my car. I took their Elite series. No problem with Smart Tag.

Hamel spec also good for the price. Did my wife car earlier this year at their Setapak branch. Totally satisfied with the tint and their service. Price about the same with IrisPro just that they got charge for the old tint removal while IrisPro offered to do it for free.
*
Great, I have been waiting for someone to install and test the elite series can work for smart tag or not.

Did you tint elite 70 for all windows or lower spec. The elite 50 VLT seems too low for front side windows.

JPJ* guidelines state 50% VLT (or lighter) for front side windows, so should pass. Only front windscreen needs to be 70% VLT if you want to conform.

If your “seems too low” is referring to visibility, it likely depends on the user. For me 50% VLT for the front half of the car (windscreen and windows) is still fine for even the darkest unlit underground carparks (as long as your headlights are on). My mum, aged 70+, is quite comfortable driving around with Diamond 60 for windscreen and windows. It mostly the rear boot/tailgate glass you need to be careful with, since going too dark (like below 30%) might affect visibility in the rear-view mirror.

*only for JPJ, different story if Puspakom because their meters are wonky and will minus 10% for every reading.
*
Only VKool listed their tint 71% with 3mm single pane clear glass. Other tint never mentioned their VLT is with glass or without. So I usually try to go above 70 for front windscreen (will likely still fail Puspakom unless its a 80% tint like Honda Ecotint).

So for 50% VLT, its right at the borderline, if include windows glass, likely fail. So I try to go for anything 55 to 60% to be safe. That is why earlier if budget allow, will try to plan for Elite 70 front screen and diamond 60 for front side and Elite 50 or 35 for rear side and windscreen if going for IrisPro. Don't know how dark is 35 tho, still undecided. Still not urgent coz try to drag abit due to budget. All cars maint and change come at 1 go, cannot tahan.

Of course all this is just in my plan only, did not approach for pricing coz still try to drag the budget for other more urgent stuff first but guess as long as whole car around 2K, still can plan it in the near future when the tint blurring got worse.

Raytech always like this. Rep actually has the price sheet sitting in front of him/her, but they want you to visit them in order to upsell their coating and PPF packages, telling you how much “savings” you get if take whole package.

Some shops also won’t give you price until they see what brand of car you drive. These kind of shops will quote more for a Mini Cooper than a X70.
*
Yes and I wonder why. Even VKool emailed me back the exact price for specification that I requested even with multiple vehicle types. Maybe also want ppl to visit, so can give better talk about discount 1 to 1 rather than give listed price that scare away potential customer (Raytech higher end tint pretty pricey).

If my experience with their Diamond series and a handheld Lingshang meter is anything to go by, IrisPro films are likely compensated for post-application VLT readings, but this might still be borderline depending on the glass on your car. On my mum’s Cross, Diamond 60 installed on front measured 60.1%, but Diamond 30 installed on rear measured 29% (but rear has no limit in the JPJ guidelines). Most local brands are like that nowadays. Their lighter films are usually a few percent lighter than series name (eg: Brand X 50 might actually measure 53) and their darker films measure slightly lower (eg: Brand X 35 is actually 32 when measured). Usually the “cut off” point is at 50%, tailored to compensate for our front side window regulations.

Most decent installers (for any brand) should have their demo samples already stuck onto glass to give a closer ballpark reading, so you can just pay them a visit and check yourself. You can also hold their film on your side windows without installing and have them take a reading first, although this method will only work if your glass already has its pre-installed film removed.

Edit:
Fyi, IrisPro Diamond and Elite series have slightly different hues. Elite is closer to neutral, while Diamond has more metallic/mirror finish. Likely due to differences in sputter type. I’m not sure how dramatic the difference will be, but do take note in case you decide to mix&match series types.
*
Ahh....the hue, never really thought about that. Aish...might have to try to go for same series if taking that into consideration. Only front windscreen can go different hue (since lighter anyway).

How is the diamond 30 at rear, it is still clear to see at night (for driving/rear view)?

guys my car was sent to puspakom for checking during transfer of ownership and hadapan is 60% ketelusan cahaya, the result was lulus that time but the recent update at 70% means i have to change it?

70% not recent ler......It has been there since the beginning. It is only the rear side windows, rear windscreen that changed..
So your hadapan is always 70% only can lulus...how come u so lucky or how much u pay...hint hint!!!!

I think Puspakom validity is 3 months. As long as you transfer within the validity date, then no issue liao coz you already have the lulus cert.

I also want...then no need to tear up my 2 years old Vkool Elite tint if I want to transfer my car to my daughter.
