Anyone experienced using 3M Ebony EB40?

Is it good?

Its 2 mil not 4 mil... Is it sufficient against smashing?

Was quoted for RM 788 full car for ebony 40 as it got promo

Or

FWS using FX HP50 and other window ebony40 for RM 938
Is it good?

3M cheap one sure fake or lower grade, which imho not worth it at all.

My previous car, retint my FWS with original 3M but lower grade (Not crystalline). It has watermark 3M on the film, is listed as authorized 3M shop. Under sun while driving, hand got burning feel.

My current car, I also retint FWS, but this time with crystalline CR60. Under hot sun while driving, hand no more burning feel.
So for 3M, either get crystalline or just get other brand. FYI, smart tag being blocked by CR60 film mega_shok.gif

Not sure the grade. RM500 for FWS, still feel hot.
FYI, that car FWS v-kool tinted was peeled off by puspakom, while side window's v-kool remain. I retint FWS with 3M (RM500), felt hand hotter with 3M FWS compare to side window's v-kool.
So I doubt the 3M ebony will be good.

Like I said, either get crystalline 3M or try other brand.

thanks for the explanation

anyway i might consider these instead:

huper optik = 60/40/40

haverkamp = 70/40/40
meaning to say 60 for FWS is like the most optimal already for good driving experience at night?

if go lets say like 50% VLT then its defintely gonna mess with the view? hmm.gif
*
based on my experience, i prefer 70% for FWS. anything darker will give poor visibility at night+rain.

to be honest, i had use both full vkool elite and full 3m crystaline..if both are same VLT 70% which is VK elite vs 3M CR70, vkool still much much better than 3M..it is kinda obvious when ur car stop at traffic light for some time under d 12pm sun, put ur hand on dash and feel it..if the car on the move the diff is not that big diff though.. tongue.gif

in the end i remove the CR70 on FWS and retint it wit CR40, my side windows are on CR50 tat time, so yes the FWS is darker than the sides tongue.gif
that car was sold and i got another car and goes for all round CR40 this time..and still no way better than than the vkool VK40 on my friends car..
if price is not the factor, and u wan d best tint in the market, i would still say Vkool is the best tint out there.. thumbup.gif

How are so many people so brazenly willing to flout the VLT rules? Aren't you guys concerned that you will get pulled up, issued with a summons, have your tint torn down?
*
Many people want lower VLT films in order to reduce the heat (since this is a daily matter) and are willing to flout the rules because enforcement is lax in Malaysia. Secondly, even if you get pulled up many feel they can 'settle' the matter with the officer. whistling.gif

I have 2 cars tinted with 60% VLT for FWS and there is no problem with night driving.

Hi.
May i know what is the average standard cost for a reputable tint brand for a sedan? 500-1k? Or >1k?

I saw too many shops selling tint film at 99, 199, 299, etc.. how bad are those tints?

There are different grades of tint in the market. Even under one brand, they might have different grades depending on price. Look at the specs and you will see the difference.

The top grade would be 2k+
Middle to good would be 1k - 2k

Dunno about those super cheap ones like 199, 299...

Also beware of inflated specs.

those super cheap tints are normally used for applying 2nd layer of darkness

high quality tints are usually 30% VLT at most (70% darkness)

For some ppl, like me, feel that is not enough, so we have to add another layer on top of it, which is the super cheap tint to achieve the desired darkness (95% darkness for me)

those with bubbles at the rear windscreen
most of the time pple say it is due to cheap film

well in part

to properly apply, you need to really press out all the air
bad films might be bad adhesive
but also the quality of the film limits to how hard you scrape the file

cheap films will tear if worked too hard
thus end product are filled with micro air bubbles trapped between the film and glass
when it dries out and sticked properly the bubbles will expand and show up

you see a lot at the rear due to the problem of removing the film might affect the de-mister lines, as well as nowadays, radio antennas line.

so you end up catch 22
change, might break the lines
no change, bubbles galore

go for reputable sifus atleast
or go for reputable brands

Beware those sell 199, 299, 399
Performance will drop very fast and lot product problem will occur such as

Bubble
Discoloration
Fade and so onnn

Those is still claimable under warranty provided the shop is still doing the business

His experience is speaking the truth because to reduce the cost as the purpose of the 2nd layer is to make it darker
For example you did V-Kool Elite on 1st layer and 2nd layer use cheap dark film will last longer even it is double layer

REMEMBER do not put high end window film on top of cheap film

Thanks for for many years of support. I believe in the future V-Kool will invest on lower VLT film to cater all the market needs
ATM the darkest we have is V-Kool 30 around 35% of VLT

To others lowyat member, you can always use V-Kool spec as the benchmark to compare others window film in the market.
No need to compare the price because V-Kool is most premium among all the windows film in Malaysia
