Sony is more developer friendly than Samsung coz their release their source code.
So easier to make custom ROM compared to Samsung.

I repeat again; you guys are just considering hard paper specs and ignoring software optimisations completely. Go look at faux/franco kernel on N5.
*
Flashing custom kernel won't magically G2 like battery life. There might be improvement but it'll around 10-20% (rough estimation). The 2300mA battery won't be enough to power up the 1080p screen for too long. You probably need to learn to use the phone conservatively & monitor the apps in device to prevent wakelocks & whatnot to prolong the battery life as much as possible.

This is how I learned to live with my Nexus 4. Love the software & hardware except for the less than stellar battery life & *cough* "average" *cough" camera.

QUOTE(covah @ Nov 14 2013, 04:55 PM)
does anyone here bought nexus 5 D820 using 3g postpaid? any problem?

You won't have problem connecting to any of Malaysian telco's 3G service.

QUOTE(benny888 @ Nov 14 2013, 05:02 PM)
Digi 3g/h network is bad n many areas don't even have h+. If serious intention to use mobile data network should consider change to maxis or celcom. In KL even the newer UMobile thrumps it
*
Depends on place. For me I'm ok with DiGi 3G. The 3 places I go frequently Kluang(Johor),Melaka & KL have decent DiGi 3.5G service.
UMobile service is a jekyll and hyde story. Sometimes it's good & at another time it's plain crap.Too many downtime in many places (admittedly it's for maintenance purpose but there shouldn't be that many downtime).
If you want the widest coverage, go for Celcom. If you want the fastest service go for Maxis instead.

1 thing that till bugging me is why DiGi haven't improved on their LTE coverage. They made a big deal out of the Tomorrow's Network dung & they are the 1st telco in Malaysia to publicly acknowledge that they are building LTE network. But now their LTE coverage is suuuupeeer pathetic.

Sony phones lack of good ROMs though. There is not a stable AOSP based ROM available for the Xperia S, a 2012 flagship phone.. CM, AOKP, Slim all are unstable or missing core functions of the phone.

not sure if the recent phones have better developer support.

Seriously, you don't need Anadtech's review o know that Nexus 5's battery life will be average.Or crap like some people would say.
*
I don't know if you own a nexus 5 but I do. I also like to present evidence backing up my claims.

I can get the phone through the day with similar usage as my sgs4. A reason why a 2300mAh battery could perform similarly to sgs4:

- S800 being much more power efficient than s600. Source and formatted image I made
user posted image
The table above is compared against s600. My exynos sgs4 would fare worse than s600. The information looks believable because my nexus5 standby time is much better than my sgs4.

Besides that, we know kitkat has reduced memory footprint. I have no concrete source but there are rumours of software optimizations to reduce battery consumption too although it is not far fetched.

Anandtech's tests are standardized. That has more credibility than some random people claim's with various unknown parameters such as whether google now is enabled, brightness level, location accuracy is high or low, wifi/4g/3g etc.

FWIW, I am happy with nexus 5 battery life. I haven't even root the phone or flash custom kernel yet thumbup.gif

franco tells us nothing about his kernel sad.gif

There's a possible battery leak which has been manually solved by supercurio. I couldn't find where it is but if this is true, then I can expect longer standby battery life.

It's reasonable to expect Nexus 5 to have slight better battery usage than SGS IV. But it's unreasonable to expect Nexus 5 to last like G2 or Note3 due to lower battery rate.

I do agree that Anandtech's review is much more comprehensive that other websites. But regular people don't want to know about every single nuts and bolts in a device laugh.gif

Another battery bug with Nexus at launch? This seems like annual thing for Qualcomm. Same thing happened during Nexus 4's launch last year.

No.It's decent. But it's not as good as the flagships from other OEMs.

Talking about the battery life really make me wonder how the heck LG managed to make Optimus G & G2's last longer than other devices which used similar hardwares. Their UI department suck balls but their battery optimization tricks are excellent.

In my opinion, this SIRIM nonsense should stop. It's not like Malaysia has higher standards in terms of electronics or anything. Why can't ASEAN countries meet together and define a set of standards that applies to all member countries? It'll save money, time and effort for manufacturers to get their device certified for sale in the region. Also, the increase in transparency will benefit all parties (except for the Malaysian market monopoly that SIRIM enjoys of course).

Malaysians will then enjoy earlier launches in line with the region. I bet Malaysians and Singaporeans are similar in their hunger for the latest gadgets.

Some manufacturer must start lobbying soon, *ahem*Apple*ahem*.

After using like for 10days, i like the battery life more than my Nexus. Its an LCD, so i can use any colorful wallpaper unlike gnex which use amoled that have terrible battery life if used white theme or simple web browsing.

Normal usage i can achieve around 4-5hours SoT with super long standby time. 18hours on battery with 4h something for yesterday... Mixed usage game, Facebook, web browsing, torrenting, watching anime, i do it all in my nexus 5.

For those who asking, i'm using stock everything right now, no root, no unlock, no custom anything. Maybe after 1 month i will unlock and do custom rom.

Got my friend to bring back a 32Gb black from Australia. Shipping is in 4-5 weeks, with a $AUD20 shipping fee. Total is about $AUD469, about RM 1,400. She'll only be back on 1st Jan, damn, such a long wait.

Anyone knows how to get the GST refund at the australian airport? That will save me about RM 125.
