Power on/off questions
on home entertainment devices :-

Do you power off your soundbar and subwoofers or you just switch put TV to sleep ( which sends a ARC/eARC command to the soundbar ) ?

Do you power off TV completely or just using the remote, which actually put TV to sleep only ?

From long term usage angle, which make the home devices to have longer life span ?

Hi, want to ask some compatibility questions between my TV and the soundbar with atmos. Currently looking to upgrade my old 2.1 soundbar to 3.1.2 or 5.1.2 but after I checked to know that my few years old TV can only support dolby digital plus.

Does it mean the TV sound processing will limit the soundbar to 5.1 if unable to handle the atmos? Or it wouldn't be an issue as long i have a TV Box that has atmos support?

All depends on audio source. If your TV box supports atmos then no issue lah.

To use audio source from TV box, then the connection would be from TV box to soundbar, then soundbar arc to TV arc? Normally people do is tvbox hdmi to TV, then TV arc to soundbar arc if I understand correctly.

I believe for the 1st method, the soundbar needs to have hdmi passthrough feature. For the 2nd method, the TV needs to have audio passthrough feature.

I have recently bought a Sony 4K TV and wish to add a soundbar for better HT entertainment.

Based on my budget of around RM 1800, I have been suggested to buy the Sony HT-G700 3.1ch Dolby Atmos/DTS.X soundbar.

As I am new to soundbars, would appreciate guidance to the following :

1. Is it preferred to use soundbars from the same brand or can we match with soundbars from other brands, say Samsung, LG
2. For the same budget, what are the other soundbars with better specs that can be considered?
3. Any other useful information to know inselection of the soundbar

Thank you.

This is my two cents.

I think the main consideration for soundbar is whether you want to have rear speakers or you don't want. Rear speakers would make soundbar different, but have to give due consideration to cable and power source at the rear speakers.

Within those soundbars without the rear speakers, from the big brand, there is probably very little difference.

Using soundbars from unestablished brand is kind of risky.

With hdmi eArc, the soundbars from different brands would be able to work together. You are not restricted from using soundbars from the same brand of TV.

Sounds good, on paper.

Quad subs, but they are puny subs. While multi subs is a solution for even bass across multiple seats, it requires good placement. Most people don't even know how to place a single sub, now you give them 4... lol.

And I also have doubts about the Nakamichi's room correction system. Is it going to be able to determine the correct delay (distance) and level match the entire system properly? hmm.gif

EDIT - wait hold up, I just watched the Digital Trends video and he said it is FOUR sub drivers in TWO enclosures. Lmao. That's not QUAD subs, that's just DUAL. Nice bullshit! Why did I even give the soundbar market a second look.

I need some suggestions/recommendations from sifu here.

My living room is 500 sqft, give or take.
Currently using Samsung 65' AU7000.

As per my understanding the TV only supports Dolby Digital Plus and no ATMOS. I'm looking to either purchase 3.1 or 5.1 soundbar. This would be my first soundbar purchase.

I've narrow down to Samsung Q600B or Edifier B700 since the price range is quite similar. I'm open to more suggestions.

Looking to purchase at RM1500 max or below (wallet friendly option)

Sometimes I don't understand the logic of this.

I buy soundbar because tv speakers suck. Then you buy a soundbar but still pair with tv speaker to use together. Doesn't it defeat the purpose of getting a soundbar in the first place.

Sure, soundbar sounds better than TV speakers but the ridiculous price you pay for such sound quality is unbelievable.

I gonna agreed with you. Any thoughts on the following:

1. Yamaha YAS-209
2. Edifier B700
3. Sony HT-X8500
4. Samsung Q600B

I've done a bit of googling, seems those are on the similar price range but am really confused at the same time,
can't really decide which one is better.

Any thoughts?
