Samsung Q600b a good option to have a little bit of Atmos experience? Couldn't find much reviews online about it yet, mostly on the Q600a model.

QUOTE(tmc @ Jun 5 2022, 12:25 PM) I suspect these soundbars are meant for typical apartment or smaller room, where it uses the wall to achieve better acoustic effect. So if your room fits that definition you are quite safe to buy these things. Yes it's just for a small room. So far I found this model and LG SN7Y which have a dedicated up firing speakers to mimic the real downfiring Atmos speakers. I know we won't get real Atmos experience below 2k budget, at least if I can hear something flying above like in the movie, that's already good enough. If you are putting it big spacious hall, then the effect will be very disappointing.... |

QUOTE(tmc @ Jun 5 2022, 03:37 PM) Q600a does not have WiFi capability. I noticed that RTings rated the Q600a a bit higher than the more expensive Sony G700. The Sony has good performance for movies but a bit lacking in music and dialogue clarity. Having a Sony TV making me inclined for another Sony devices but the Samsung is more future proof. It also cheaper to buy the surround speaker kit if I want to transform it to 5.1. |

QUOTE(xxxgkssixxx @ Jun 9 2022, 06:50 PM) I thought rear speakers by right should be placed somewhere further from the sofa seats … like this? No? for full atmos effect then yes. as you can see from the picture, the rear speakers has front and up firing drivers. the sound from upfiring one needs to be bounced off from the ceiling. if the rear speakers sit very close to you, you won't hear the back and above sounds, instead it will end up in the center.![]() xxxgkssixxx liked this post

I bought the q800b because my sofa already close to the wall so there's no point on having rear speakers. Previously had a 5.1 home theater and I had to put the rear speakers at the top. Watching Stranger Things on Atmos is amazing, with volume 20 it already filled the room. I had to tone down the subwoofer a bit because it rumbles like crazy. arvind13 liked this post

QUOTE(Boy96 @ Sep 5 2022, 01:10 AM) https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/tools/compa...&threshold=0.10 I know it support atmos but without sub you cannot get the thumping sounds and loud rumbles.Checkout this review The Sonos supports Atmos content, using side-firing and front-firing drivers built into the bar to simulate sound objects in the soundstage. |

QUOTE(Boy96 @ Sep 5 2022, 02:17 AM) Then have to take the Samsung.. I believe Q930B is for bigger room where you have some distance between you and the back speakers. I bought the Q800B because my sofa already close to the wall, the audio would have messed up if I put the rear speakers just behind it.I am also still considering wither q800b or q930b. Not sure that 400+ ringgit diff worth it or not since my TV does not support Dolby Atmos.. Also point worth noting, up firing speakers for atmos won't have good effect for ceiling around 9 feet high and above. Although dolby mentioned 12 feet max but some people have tested and couldn't hear the effects even in 10 feet ceiling room. |

QUOTE(Boy96 @ Sep 10 2022, 04:56 PM) How does the rear speaker cable looks like? Each speaker has its own power port to plug in? Each rear speaker has own power plug and they connect wirelessly to the soundbar. I think the cable is around 1.5m length.I have the space for rear speakers in my living room but electrical plug points are near the tv only |

QUOTE(tmc @ Oct 1 2022, 08:35 PM) All brands should ensure that they can output the sound within their specification without distortion. Under this premise, brands like LG can output upto their upto the 440 wattage specifications without distortion. My first home theater setup was a cheap sony 5.1 bluray player with 300w total output. Volume had to be 80 and above if I really want to enjoy the sound. After few years it started giving error push power protect if I use it for long hour sessions, dropping the volume to 60 something would solve the issue. It was like cpu throttling in pc whenever a temperature threshold is reached. If the wattage for Edifier is only 175watt, that means it can only output 175watt without distortion. So either it cannot be louder than 175watt, or if it is louder than 175watt, there will be distortion. Do not seem to be a great spec if my understanding is correct. I believe nowadays speakers are made from better materials, 175w maybe sounds a bit low but it probably good enough to fill a small living room. But then asking 1.9k for it is ridiculous. |

QUOTE(suilow1991 @ Dec 4 2022, 01:01 PM) Hi, want to ask some compatibility questions between my TV and the soundbar with atmos. Currently looking to upgrade my old 2.1 soundbar to 3.1.2 or 5.1.2 but after I checked to know that my few years old TV can only support dolby digital plus. All depends on audio source. If your TV box supports atmos then no issue lah.Does it mean the TV sound processing will limit the soundbar to 5.1 if unable to handle the atmos? Or it wouldn't be an issue as long i have a TV Box that has atmos support? |

QUOTE(suilow1991 @ Dec 4 2022, 08:57 PM) To use audio source from TV box, then the connection would be from TV box to soundbar, then soundbar arc to TV arc? Normally people do is tvbox hdmi to TV, then TV arc to soundbar arc if I understand correctly. I believe for the 1st method, the soundbar needs to have hdmi passthrough feature. For the 2nd method, the TV needs to have audio passthrough feature. |
