Hi, I see most are discussing about Samsung, LG and Sony.
Anyone bought Yamaha YAS 209?
Anyone bought the newly launched Edifier B700?
Eyeing on this 2 models now as my budget is less than 2k

interesting attempt by Edifier but very hard to find reviews.... Not sure is the product first launched in Msia because can't seem to find any reviews from other countries also. Even Edifier website don't have the product details

RM 1.9k would put it in the same price range as LG SN8Y and Samsung Q600B.... both reputable products

This is what I gathered, correct me if I am wrong.

LG SN8y 440watt, 3.1.2 channel
Samsung 360watt, 3.1.2 channel

Edifier ???? watt, 5.1.2 channel
*
according to their specs here... just 175watt

Harvey Norman @ Pavillion Bukit Jalil setup a Sonos area just outside their store. I saw it when i was there on Sunday, not sure if its still there now. Beam Gen 2 was selling for only 2.5k after discount. Worth checking out

Dont buy the Sonos Beam Gen 2 at full price of 2999..... it could drop to as low as 2.4 - 2.5k during promotions

Q990b is definitely out of my budget. i actually looking for below 2k but sonos beam gen2 looks appealing for me
yeah, i could get 2.4k during lazada promotion but i have to wait for next sales
*
Go try it out first and see whether you like the sound... some Harvey Norman branch have demo unit, if not you can visit Sonos showroom by TC Acoustics at Starhill gallery

It's not a bad buy for the price actually, the Beam Gen 2 is consistently rated as one of the better 5.1 sound bars with Atmos by reviewers. Also the plus point for Sonos is the ecosystem, you can always expand your sound system with more speakers or a sub. Ikea also collaborated Sonos so you can get Ikea speakers and link with the sound bar to form a 5.1.2 setup

None of the soundbars discussed will give decent Atmos. Mostly marketing claims. Maybe the Q990B will.

I guess sharing a summary of my experiences may be helpful for the current soundbars discussion.

Full disclosure. I recently purchased the Sony A9 as it is close enough to my AVR setup for streaming content. I also looked at USD price points for different soundbars to get an idea where each price performance segment it is competing against. Seen a lot of reviews and time to listen at the stores.

Sonos was my initial choice just that it will be twice the cost of the Sony to get all the pieces together to match the sound stage etc. Just the way Sonos is priced locally.

The Q990B is actually quite close to the Sony but it does not do well with spatial music in comparison. Samsung at almost one third the price was tempting.

All said the Q990B currently is like at half the price in US. Samsung has this habit of really good pricing and just before the 2023 models start selling. Maybe you can find a system at under RM2k at more than 50% discount from its original price. Not the flagship Q990B but more mid range?
*
Other factors to consider.... the space where you plan to put your sound setup

Also this is just me, but I felt its a waste to get a sound bar from another brand just to pair with a TV from other brand where some features have to be sacrificed eg: Q Symphony

Got Samsung Q990C from Harvey Norman. Now looking for stand for rear speakers. Hope it’s a wise decision to pair with my Samsung tV.

Make sure to enable Q Symphony to make full use of it

Anyone audited/compared it with Sony ht-a7000 with rs5 rear and sw5 sub before?
*
A7000 should be compared with Q990C instead

bang for buck Samsung will always win over Sony. the fact that you get full set system (sub + rears) for a lower price than Sony, and the sound quality is not far off as well

has been surveying soundbar quite a while... has been quite undecisive as whether to get old but good soundbar or get 1 with dolby atmos.

old models i'm considering is Yamaha YAS 207 or LG SN11R.  new model i'm considering is Sonos beam gen 2, samsung HW Q800C

i would like to ask soundbar with dolby atmos makes much difference?
*
Audio purist will tell you it doesn't matter, sound bar will never match a full HT setup

But if space and budget is a constrain and you still want to feel some surround effects, get a system which comes with or at least expandable with satellite speakers. A single bar is not gonna give you that surround effect

This is true.  I’ve just moved from a very old  AVR 5.1 setup, to Sony HT-A7000, and the difference is quite obvious.  But I already knew what to expect, so it was a managed expectation.  I just need very decent centre for dialogue, and the HT-A7000 delivers.
*
you have one of the best sound bars in the market now, i think you just need to add a sub and a pair of satellites for its full potential

QUOTE(cycheah @ Mar 15 2024, 04:13 PM)
this i understand... my personal hobby/ gaming room is quite small.. from TV to door in a straight line about 11ft only.

if comes with satellite speaker, i'm considering LG SN11R, old model but found a good price.
*
can go for the sonos beam gen 2 or Q800C, both are expendable systems. Sonos you can add sub and satellites later and Q800C you can add satellites

but if you ask me bang for buck wise I would go for Q800C, it already comes with a sub. you just need to add on the satellites later if needed which doesn't cost much (rm600+/- iinm)

Sonos have slightly better sound quality but adding the components (sub + satellites) can drive the cost up a lot. they are not cheap

probably direct connect with HDMI would be better than wireless?

i would mainly use for gaming... movies would be secondary. i'm still hesitating which to get. but of course there are some great soundbar that are out of my budget like the sony ht a7000, sonos arc, bose soundbar.

Since i'm using LG C1, i'm wondering to get back LG also for better performance , i'm eyeing on a 2nd hand LG SN11R
*
i dont think you get any additional benefits from pairing a LG sound bar to your LG TV, if there's any its also negligible. There's a feature similar to Samsung Q Symphony that utilise your TV speaker as centre channel call WOW Ochestra but its only limited to 2022 models and later (C2 >)

LG sound bars even the flagship models generally dont fare that well in reviews.... as opposed to Samsung's Q series which is one of the better ones in the market. I believe the fact Samsung owns Harman contributed to this.

Sony A7000 or Q990C/Q990D better?

Reason to consider A7000 because i have X90J TV.
*
overall package its very hard to beat the Q990 because it comes with subwoofer and satellites as well

you can get subs and satellites seperately for A7000 but its going to be very expensive considering the bar itself is already more expensive than Q990

only consider the A7000 if you want to use Sony's acoustic centre sync with your bravia, which is probably a negligible improvement. and also if you want your whole HT setup to be Sony only. Some people OCD cannot accept Sony TV plugged into Samsung soundbar and vice versa biggrin.gif
