20 ft away ? You have a big house !
*
Well, it is a 30+ years old house therefore the layout partly contributed to the extra space in living room. Newer houses would have the direct access to the back of the house and a front section half sealed for living room. Parents wanted the altar to face the main entrance thus TV is placed on left side. Sofa can only placed to the right wall and wall besides main entrance. Unless spent some money to hack a smaller entrance on the right side to create a direct access to the back of the house, this is what I have to live with. Inefficient usage of space. It was kinda useful at times when you have little ones and they have larger space to train on a walker.

Wish to get some comments/inputs about soundbar in these two categories :-

1. Soundbar around rm1600. Can use Samsung HW Q600B as example.

2. Soundbar around rm2400. Can use Samsung HW Q800 as example.

Price difference rm800.

My question. Are there big difference in sound quality and effects in the two ? In other words, is the additional rm800 really worth it ?

You need to try them out yourself. Not all the RM800 went into sound quality.

Q800B:

1. WiFi - you can control the soundbar from your smartphone app
2. Wireless Dolby Atmos - as the name suggest, you do not need to attach cable to get wireless dolby atmos with certain Samsung TV
3. 5.1.2 - you get 2 more side firing speaker on the soundbar for better surround

For Samsung q800b, what other brand models are in the same competition space ? Cannot find something equivalent from Sony. How is LG S90QY compared Samsung ?

I can't answer you since I have never listened nor know anything about other soundbar.

I only searched about Samsung since my sister work in Samsung and sometimes I googled about the specs to see whether it's worth buying or not. In the end, I settled for the cheaper Edifier since I only want Dolby Atmos and has no use for DTS:X.

Hi,
Need to confirm if I send Dolby True HD or DTS-X signal to TV with only Arc connection will it downgrade it to DD 5.1 / DTS HD or just straight to 2 channels? Or I simply won't get any sound?

Looking at Bose 900 or Sonos ARC, not going for rear speakers. A7000 a bit too expensive. So it will be from player direct to tv , then tv to soundbar.

I have LG C8 which doesn't hv e-ARC, My movie collection played thru Zidoo Z9X connected to NAS.
Some of the files only have DTS codec.

Is that how it's supposed to work? Is it not from zidoo to soundbar hdmi, which then filter the sound and only send the digital image signal to the tv via arc hdmi?

I think possible with audio passthrough. At a glance looks like LG does not support DTS.

Both Sonos and Bose 900 does not have hdmi in ,so I hv to route Zidoo to Tv first.

My LG C8 still support DTS pass through, just no e-arc.

Im not sure, if sending True HD or DTS-X signal to the tv , what type of signal will be going to the soundbar.
If it’s converted to ‘lower’ quality that’s one thing , but if it’s not giving any output then I hv to consider other soundbar.

I don't see your problem.

If your TV has no eARC, just use ARC then?

Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD will be encoded into lossy Dolby Digital and DTS since ARC does not have the bandwidth to support anything higher. Dolby Atmos isn't a sound format, it's just metadata for 3D sound objects on top of the core track (that core track being Dolby Digital+). That said, you won't even get the benefits of Atmos on a soundbar anyways, so the point of supporting it or not is moot.

Anyone has something to comment on this soundbar:-

Prism+ symphony 5.1.2 760watt peak, Dolby Atmos support.

This soundbar has 11 speakers, including surround and up firing speakers. And it is loud. You would probably just set it at a lower fraction of the max volume.

Spec wise is looks good to me. The downside is that it is less internationally known. My understanding is that Prism is a Singapore based company.

There are quit a few reviews in YouTube.

Any comments?
