Whats the price for a decent budget soundbar nowadays?
*
What is the definition of a "budget soundbar" ? <1000, <2000 or <4000 ?

Hi all,

Any experts here can advice where to place the subwoofer of a soundbar system?

Example: If I have a cabinet with this design below, should I place it on the cabinet (place of the plant with white vase) or just place it directly on the floor? There are many confusing suggestions on google…

My two cents. Try it. Whichever works, it would be the best.

On the table the worry is if the table not solid enough, then it causes additional other vibration noise. Can also try with the floor. But there isn't any suitable place on the floor, it becomes an obstruction to traffic or a protrusion.

fyi, some youtube videos are louder than others. you can check it in nerd stats.
some AVR have per input/source volume trim. is there any soundbar with such feature?
*
As far as the soundbsr is concerned, youtube or Netflix are from the same source, eg the hdmi port.

Only the media player ( eg the TV or the TVbox ) can differentiate YouTube from Netflix.

Is ok, because most of tthe atmos upfiring speakers are on the main bar.
*
I read that they are firing to the ceiling and let it bounce back to reach the audience. So the effect would be dependent on the ceiling height ? If ceiling is high, the effect would be poor ?

I got Samsung Q950a, to be honest don't expect much from height channel with bounce but rear speaker is important.
*
Hard to get good effect from the height channel ....That being the case, would it be better just get a basic 5.1 system with rear speakers such as a Sony Ht-S40R ?

What do you guys think?

I think Sony Ht-S40R dont support  dolby atmos and dts X . How?
*
That's the "argument". Since the benefits of virtual Dolby Atmos and virtual DTS are low, so just skip them, get the real DTS only. Does HT-S40R support the "traditional" DTS ? smile.gif

May I know where did u buy the stand for Q950A rear speakers?
*
I just realized that as soon there are rear speakers, cables and location/placement for the speakers become a big mess.

What is the difference between Samsung HW-Q600B/XM vs HW-Q700B/XM ? On paper, the Q700 is actual less power ( 320W ) than the Q600 ( 360W ), but it is a few hundred more expensive.

Samsung Q600b a good option to have a little bit of Atmos experience? Couldn't find much reviews online about it yet, mostly on the Q600a model.
*
I suspect these soundbars are meant for typical apartment or smaller room, where it uses the wall to achieve better acoustic effect. So if your room fits that definition you are quite safe to buy these things.

If you are putting it big spacious hall, then the effect will be very disappointing....

Yes it's just for a small room. So far I found this model and LG SN7Y which have a dedicated up firing speakers to mimic the real downfiring Atmos speakers. I know we won't get real Atmos experience below 2k budget, at least if I can hear something flying above like in the movie, that's already good enough.
*
What are the spec for LG SN7Y ?

According to Lazada two different sellers, they are putting up different spec ( 5.1,440w vs 3.1.2,380w )

Q600a does not have WiFi capability. I noticed that RTings rated the Q600a a bit higher than the more expensive Sony G700. The Sony has good performance for movies but a bit lacking in music and dialogue clarity. Having a Sony TV making me inclined for another Sony devices but the Samsung is more future proof. It also cheaper to buy the surround speaker kit if I want to transform it to 5.1.
*
There has to be WiFi capability. Otherwise how does the wireless subwoofer sync with the soundbar, and how the app controls the soundbar ?

The difference between the q600a and q600b should be minor.

Thanks.

There are actual quite a few different vendor products in that price range ( Samsung, Sony, Panasonic etc ). I am trying to find out if any of them is adequate for a basic experience.

Get Samsung or LG because they got option to add rear speakers for better experience.
*
I realized the rear speakers will make the living room very messy, as behind the sofa seats is not the partition wall, it is the entrance walk way.

If I insist on putting rear speakers right behind the sofa seats, I will have to put them on stand and there will be wiring running around ( power cable for example ). Or I put the rear speakers at the wall, but it will be much further from the sofa seats .....

Ya, i had the similar issue too. Plus I don't have power plug behind my sofa, so is kind of hard to use rear speaker.
*
Yeah we have the same problem. We have to put the rear speakers much further away against the wall then.

By right if the rear speakers are strong enough, it can actually form better the surround effects when the sofa is somewhat in the middle between front soundbar and rear speakers. Rear speakers are not to be too closed to the audience.
