It's hard because $6K is kinda like the sweet spot where a majority of Singaporean graduates are qualified and willing to do the job. If your cousin was earning $16K or $1.6K, then he'd have much fewer Singaporeans making life difficult for him.

Singapore graduates gets $6k?
So high?

Graduates means the section of the Singaporean workforce who are degree holders. To discern them from non-graduate Poly diploma/ITE holders and skilled/unskilled labourers.

If I remember correctly, Singstat puts the average salary of degree holders in Singapore at around $7K.

I thought its dependant on the number of years of experience, the sector and the position (whether management or not)
I'm quite sure degree holder in Singapore in the Manufacturing sector, <10 years experience and not in management postition for example, do not earn an average of SGD7k.

Yes it is. That's how the average comes about.

That's a minority in the overall scheme of things. Take MNC manufacturers for example. We have an accounting service center with 50 graduates where the average salary is around $7-8K and the range is from $4K for fresh graduates to $14K for first level managers. We also have a R&D facility in Tuas that pays $5-6K for a bunch of Higher Nitec techs who have experience running/tuning a wide range of machines used by our customers.

And then you have the banking and financial industries, high tech manufacturing like aviation, electronics design, pharmaceuticals which pay more than we do. Even the govt civil service starts at $4K for good degrees in the right ministries and agencies.

It is difficult position for you. Some employers especially those local small films would like to complain to MOM when the candidates don't report to work after working pass approval. Some worse employers even do that when foreigners choose to resign after working for sometime. No choice, they have the card to play.

It can take as fast as 1 day to approve. If unlucky and they pick you to do some background check, can take up to 1 or 2 months

Hmm..has your work pass been approved and issued? If not approved, then the company has to withdraw it.

How did they manage to apply it for you? You would have to fill in the form and sign.

Wow. Looks like the 1st company wants to be nasty to you.

It is best to seek advice from Singapore Immigration, from past experience, never ever trust anyone in the forum for immigration advice. Just call them up directly or seek an immigration adviser at SG.

http://www.mom.gov.sg/foreign-manpower/pas...ncellation.aspx

From my understanding you can cancel the online application pretty quick (seems like 7 working days is norm).

I'm surprised that the company go ahead and applied the work pass for you even though you haven't sign any offer letter or agreed to it. Is that the normal practice nowadays ?
Did you in anyway gave a strong indication of any kind that you are accepting the job?

if he signed the offer letter and decided not to show up, of coz it reflected badly on us Malaysian. But if he haven't even sign the offer letter then it's another story altogether. Best is get the whole picture before making judgement.

If I remember correctly (it's been a while), the company doesn't need your signature or even your consent to apply for the pass. You only come into the picture when bringing your IPA to complete the formalities at WPSC, EPSC, etc.

But they still need your details such as previous work experiences, scanned copy of education certificates, etc in order to proceed with application.

Imo, it is impossible that the person whom the company applied for, does not know or have not provided the company these information/document, when the company applied his/her pass.
