The key point to ask for annual fee waiver is to ask it before it actually gets charged. If you only call after it appears in your statement then they have the upper hand and will give all kinds of excuses like it is very hard to retract the charged amount. Always call one month before the annual fee due date and ask for waiver and threaten to cancel the card if they don't do it. Unless it is a very high demand card, most of the time they will just waive for you.

If you have a lot of credit cards, get a credit card manager app for your phone (if you are using Android, see my signature) that will remind you to waive your credit card annual fees before it is due smile.gif

What insurance companies fall under MCC: 5960, 5968, 6300?

For all online transactions made with “Transaction Mode = M, D, S and U". What does M, D, S and U means?

I think Most of the Insurance Co. will under Insurance MCC

*These are the transaction categories that would be define as eCommerce spend if they fulfil either one of the criteria...

a. Merchant (card acceptor) city is indicated as eCommerce (Merchant City = eCommerce)

b. Electronic order though e-commerce / online ( POS Entry Mode = E-Commerce AND Card Holder Presence = Electronic Order)

c. Cards details are manually entered /not swiped AND transaction order is executed through secure code authorization (Pos Entry Mode = Manual Entry AND eCommerce indicator = Ecommerce)

d. Card details are manually entered / not swiped AND transaction is a standing order /recurring transaction ( POS Entry Mode = Manual Entry AND Card Holder = Standing Order / Recurring Transaction AND Pos Terminal Location = No Terminal Used)

e. Bill Payment through Standard Chartered Internet Banking

I tried several cards they also entertain wor. Only one case for citibank cashback they insisted that they cannot waive it so I cancelled the card one month before the annual fee due. Depends on your usage it might be worth it to pay the annual fee and keep the card though, but not for my case.

What I meant is they won't entertain waiver on annual fee before it is charged. They will waive only after it is charged, contrary to what was advised to get waiver before it is charged

Nope, they will tell you that they have waived it for another year, so the annual fee does not get charged to your card at all. So the advice stands. Probably depend on card and bank also though.

Depends on Stanchart customer service personnel, I suppose. The Stanchart personnel responded that they can't waive annual fee in advance as per mail attached. Can share what they have advised you?

Good to know. Probably Stanchart policy. I cancelled my first SCB credit card after 6 months as that time got 15% petrol rebate promotion that lasts only 6 months. Just applied SCB cashback this February so haven't tried to call for annual fee waiver yet. So far confirmed ones that can have waiver in advance is Citibank and RHB, other cards I have automatically waives after x amount of transactions or free for life so no need to call.

Actually this advance waiver method was taught by my friend, he has around 10 cards also and he always do this.
