Cause Kancil blocking the way? No space to overtake? Suprima driver refusing to overtake on the left? I also don't want to overtake on the left, so I tailgate and flash drivers blocking the right lane.

Also sure it is a stock Kancil? There is a rather stock looking 80s B segment Opel that was supposed to do 360 or 370 or so... Road legal turbocharged twin engined 4x4 drag racer in the body of a cheap Kelisa sized car.

what brand of Achilles used on suprima? if ATR sport should be ok i think. but not to the level of 'superb'. ATR sport is damn cheap donut but quite good in dry & wet road. 205/45/16 rm180 only..

Test drive review:

-Seating position is actually high. If you are coming from myvi, no problem here. If you are coming from Ford Econovan, then driving position maybe too low for you:P If you are coming from Perdana, Prelude, Celica, CRX then need to get used to. Cannot detect in showroom. Maybe not driving.

- GPS unit not working. Error screen come out. Not sure lack of that Yes wifi thing or because they did not install the antenna on the car. They purposely removed the antennas from all the cars they brought. Maybe afraid of theft or something.
- Car boot button needs some getting used to.
- Not sure front parking sensor working or not. Tried to creep at the car in front at traffic light. It is not proper parking, that is for sure. Did not manage to trigger the sound even though I see the sensor display on the screen showing the car distance. Maybe the sensors are for front corners, rather than totally at the front.
- Like Paultan review: DRL is bright but can only be viewed at a very specific angle. You look from a higher angle, not directly at it to see the full effect.
- Android HU unit may be dim in sunlight.

+ The car handles very well. First thing SA told me was, I want you to floor the car as hard as you want. Achieved 120km, 130km easily. You can slalom at 120km, though I think it is more down to the driver's wits to actually break the car's handling. That plus you need to turn off the traction control (not sure possible to turn off or not). Bumps dealt with quite well. Steering wheel lighter than Perdana, heavier than Accord. Easy for U-turn. CVT sound way down-I think best NVH car Proton has made. However, if you do more than 120km, noise starts to come in. So I guess keeping it at 120km and you should be fine. The Accord 2.0 was acceptable in NVH. About there. If want better NVH, try 7 series. Cannot hear anything. If you turn on radio, will not hear sound. CVT whine is there but way down also. I don't know what SA meant when going down hill, the car tyres open up and rear tyres don't drag. I have to note that I manage to make some sort of inspection check light come out at the dash while hammering the car and doing sudden brakes. Car was at 500 km, but fuel consumption registered 15.3/l....which cannot be right. Or maybe I mistake that for Trip A or something.
+ Paddle shift responsive. In the Honda, this thing takes few seconds to engage. More like it waits for the perfect rev to engage. You can downshift up to 4 gears (or up to redline). Tried from 7, managed to get it to 3. I see huge overtaking potential in this. No idea what the "S" mode on the gear is for when you can just press the paddle shift directly. Also, no idea why you want that +/- gear change. Maybe if you dreaming want to be Sebastian Loeb, then I can see using the stick, which is still slower than pressing paddle shift. Pressing brake, auto overrides and goes back to D. Downshift or upshift is possible from D, depending on engine rev.
+ The resistive screen is not that bad. Maybe since I did not scroll down and just press buttons. All work well. Managed to pair my hp to the car. Can control phone music via BT or on the phone. So 2 way control. There are a lot of functions of that android radio, and you actually need to sit down and try every feature because there are a lot of features. Only problem, layout not that intuitive. Looks like gingerbread era OS. If can root this, and install custom rom, already great.
+ Went with mom. First thing she said that, the fit and finish way better than Perdana.
+ I really like the auto-lock feature and the pull lever once to unlock, once to open the door. Same system used on mercs. Maybe too used with that feature.

Seen all colours. White is solid, RM400 cheaper. Red = that preve test drive unit. Blue is the colour you cannot miss. Even you want to miss is hard, more like light blue colour. Black will go well if you want everything black as radiators are black. Silver, normal silver car. I think most people will go with the Blue or Black colour.

That YES dongle is included with RM60 prepaid, not free one year. If you finish RM60, thats it. You can topup the dongle. The radio can pair with that, or your phone. I suspect a lot of people will just pair it with their phone after finishing the free amount. Easier that way.

Will proton regain top spot from Perodua with this car- I can say no. This car is niche product. Those can wait better wait for the Preve FL if they need the boot. If you don't need the boot, I don't see any problem.

Truthfully, the engine will not beat the 2.0 N/A vtec anytime soon. It comes close, better than the Perdana in terms of delivery.

Only other problem I see is how do you convince people that the car itself is fine. It is just that thundercat logo they need to forget. In order to do that, Proton needs to come out with at least 3 more blockbuster cars after the Suprima. More like good value cars until 2015 just to change perception. Then another 5 years (8 years total) to make sure that current proton owners go back to proton for their next car. So that is the proton roadmap until 2021 sorted. Honda was great value in the 2000s, to me just average now. The best value proton will always be the FL model or the model which is based on a new model. Suprima is just that, a Preve FL without the boot. Preve owners doing all the complaining.

Perception is one strange thing, that after trying out the Suprima, I wanted to go test drive the Rio. Nothing wrong with the Suprima, just that in my head, is it better than the rio. Will it beat the Accord in refinement. No. Beat the Perdana, yes by a big margin. You go away from this car with a mindset, now what cars are better than it at that price range.

Though, if you do buy a Proton, I think no need to put Jalur Gemilang on the car (if your boss ask to put). "Say I buy proton-already patriotic" tongue.gif

GPS only functioning when the the SD Card with the map data is inserted, SA will provide you the SD card when you purchase the car.

Proton front sensor implementation is wonky at best, unlike other car, the front sensor is always on, or on at low speed; Proton's front sensor need to be turn on from a button on the dash.

YTL Communications’ YES 4G WiMAX is bundled with the car, in the form of a free 1-year subscription of its service, said to be worth RM1,120. If so, it will be on the Super 68 plan with a 4 GB (currently 5 GB) data quota per month.

So why would you said not free 1 year ?

my take:
I found the front seat too high for tall people. Nearly all my mates knocked their head. The ones that did not complain were 5ft 8 or below. Quite noisy at the back when we went above 110kkph. Found nothing wrong with the gps. Engine actually responsive if needed.
Pairing via phone seemed futile for the other side. Ok for me when calling but out of three, all complained noisy. Overall it feel very close to Preve.
I think , at this price, nothing come close. Leather is good option. i like it.

man the pricing of this car really break my hope for seeing a better proton........the 80k price tag is going to kill their moderate improvement, why not just revive their name first like korean did before face to face fight with the mass winner zzzz

Tak habis habis with the pricing.

Give me another C-segment within that price bracket. Compete with mass winner who? Vios? City? Go sit in one and look at the space and equipment before making judgements like these.

Moderate improvement? 6 airbags, touchscreen HU, ESC, DRL etc. etc....the only other similiarly spec-ed car within that price bracket is the Fiesta and the Rio, and guess what....they are B-SEGMENT!

zzzz indeed.

I see. Did not know that. So SD card must not be in then. Kind of defeat's the purpose of having android but still need SD card. I rather it pair on wireless and get data on demand.

The front sensor was not turned on when I started driving. Either that or the 7" screen did not show the car until I forgot what I did, a picture of a car from top view come out with sensor wave pattern.

I'm 5ft10, I find it ok. Maybe the seating is at lowest on the test drive car. I had to increase the seat height position. After that, there was still room for myh head to spare.
