i can see why DRB Hicom insisted on using different name because it's 'hard-to-pronounce'.

1/2 hour ago i showed my dad that the Preve HB is going to be called "Suprima" and he was some kinda relieved that Proton changes the name. Many of his friends from overseas were mocking on the "Preve" name stating that it's 'too mouthful' to be uttered, unless someone teaches them the correct way to say it, so most of them would just say "PRRRVRRR"
*
laugh.gif

I'm not fond of Preve either, but... Suprima? And to think Skoda was mocked for the Superb... at least that is an above D segment car that is actually pretty good, and the name has been with the brand since the 30s or so. But calling a Proton Suprima is a bit ambitious, isn't it (apart from sounding like a tampon brand).

VW also name their Sedan as Jetta & Hatch as Golf,  why nobody ask them to name it Golf Sedan or Jetta Hatchback ?
Peugeot also name their sedan as 207 & hatch as 206 so why not 206 sedan.
Toyota also name their Sedan as Vios & hatch as Yaris, why not Vios Hatchback ?
Hyundai also i30 & Elantra, why not Elantra hatchback or i30 sedan, i40 & Sonata, why not i40 sedan or Sonata wagon.
*
Actually it was stupid of them to separate the Jetta/Bora and Golf, otherwise they'd constantly be the best selling car in the world.

Yaris and Vios are no longer related btw., from what I heard.

Expect next Jetta using A6 / MQB platform as well.

The topic here is about name different between sedan & hatchback,  I have shown P1 is not the only one even Big Car mfg do the same

These kiddo simply wanna find fault.
*
It's OK to give it a different name, but the problem is the name itself. biggrin.gif They could do it like Merc, BMW, Audi, ... Or give it a Malay name maybe. My favourite names (not speaking Malay) are Wira, Satria, Exora. Exotic yet easy to remember and easy to pronounce. IMHO a name doesn't have to make sense, as in be related to a real word.

Forte is a good one, while it has a meaning (strong) it is from a language that not many are familiar with here.

I also like the wind phase of VW naming. Santana, Golf, Bora, Jetta, Passat, ... Only Golf is a bit problematic.

Suprima is simply a bit tacky. Like Toyota President, Crown etc., just that with those cars the name is at least quite fitting.

Pug used numbers as an upgrade. Thats ok because most of the cars looks the same.
Golf and Jetta looks different. Not just the amount of doors. Keypoint looks very different.
Yaris also looks different from Vios.
Hyundai Elantra and i series different looks also.

And to make a point. None of your mentioned cars have 100% similar look in the front with each of the other supposedly twin model. Here the Preve looks 100% same up front. Can't tell the difference. By the time look at the side 3/4 to the back then it starts to look different. By the time hatred already set in. U get me? Key point total difference. Even though they may share same interior and platform. Its should be different. Or they could name it Preve-H. But no, its must be something overboard. Typical uncle thinking. No wonder we are lagging behind.  rolleyes.gif
*
When the Jetta was introduced the only thing that set apart the Jetta from the Golf were the headlights. The Golf had round ones, the Jetta square. That was the only difference. They did separate the cars later, but in the beginning...

Atos Prime ? ....lol...A segment some more....

So Hyundai fail or not ?
*
Yes. Though at least it only denotes the new version of the Atos, to show it is a different car. Like Satria Neo (which IMHO is much better).

In any case, if anything they should call their D segment Accord-version Suprima.

Btw.: Suprima is the name of a widespread brand of adult diaper holders and things like that.

Google image search for Suprima if you want to see more. laugh.gif It'll be quite amusing when potential buyers google for Suprima and, well, find what they find when they google for Suprima. laugh.gif

If your car is named Ultima, it better be something like that. Something with 720 hp. Then you can call your car Ultima, Suprima, Supra, ...

Yes, the name could lead to confusion. But you cant say that by hearing the name itself is not nice @@ Just worried that it would backfire the model. The name is nice, just inappropriate.
*
The name is that of an adult diaper sort of brand.

Search for Suprima and this is what you get:
user posted image

If I search for Preve, I get the Proton Preve. Focus get Ford Focus and a newspaper. Wira get Wiralution. Vios get Vios. Fiesta get Ford Fiesta. And so on. But Suprima... adult diapers. And it is pretty much the market leader in that sector, they dominate the market and are well established. A small Malaysian car maker won't push them away so easily.

it still sounds stupid to me even with Toyota or Honda infront of it ... yup but you see that the mirage or colt or lance is continued even the model is updated. Do we see Proton doing that ? i only see Proton keep changing the names with new model updates, no legacy or what ever. I think the management should follow Mazda, no need headache with names. Use Proton 1, Proton 2, Proton 3, easier for their brain to digest.
*
Saga? Satria Neo? Persona (though that name was used in the UK only before)?

The problem with Suprima is the name itself. Other names would be fine. Preve... not my favorite name, but acceptable. Still better than Suprima, but anything would be.

Proton did the same thing with the Gen-2/Persona. Savvy/Saga. Wira/Satria/Putra (any left?). But combining the names would have the advantage of higher sales figures. for example Toyota and Ford are leading with the Corolla and Focus in terms of sale, even though if VW were to combine Golf and Jetta they would easily dominate.

So be it, lol. Diapers are diapers, cars are cars. Two very different thing brother. How many people out of 10 actually know or remember an adult diaper's brand name? I certainly don't, not me. Rofl
*
Yeah, but you Google for the car and suddenly you have to look at diapers? Great way to make a first impression.

IMHO car makers (or in fact any product makers) should Google for the name first, especially image search. If you find something that you don't want to be associated with, find a different name.

Proton obviously did not google enough suprima.  laugh.gif
Im sensing they'll be utilizing different name for global market once they find out about the other Suprima.  laugh.gif
*
That again makes for poor branding, not so much presence. Unless they want to stop buyers from other countries from hearing horror stories of Malaysian Protons. laugh.gif

What was wrong with the idea of letting the public suggest names? Exora is a nice name. It doesn't say much, but sounds a bit exotic, interesting. When Apple came up with the iPod, that was bold. They already had established the iName, but Pod isn't really related to anything the product was finally all about. They could have called it the iMP3 or something like that, but that would have been obsolete fast. Of course later they became much more descriptive in their naming. iPhone is... well, a phone.

the interior look better with the silver trim, preve faux wood look cheap and cheesy, the shine doesn't doesn't help either.

personally i feel that the iafm variant copperish brown look better than premium variant shiny wood

and there is actually a paddle shifter there, its now piano black colour
*
But fake plastic also looks bad. They should just use black but make it possible to change. Like custom interiors. So aftermarket you can buy real wood ones from a carpenter, or real brushed steel, real leather, ... Or fake ones, depending on budget. Or perhaps different colors. Or even custom printed ones.

I very much prefer the Preve rear. It looks modern. Coupe like almost. The Preve Sportback rear doesn't match the rest of the design. It is too rounded.

Oh common mr proton salesman..
80k proton shd have the following
1. Hand stitch leather dashboard
2. 7 airbags
3. Premium audio system
4. 2.0 twincharge
5. Dsg gearbox
6. keyless opetaration
7. Power seats
8. Hybrid system.
*
Then people will complain too advanced, won't be reliable.

Airbags will indeed kill you if you don't wear seatbelts.

I think the price is quite good considering what you get.

But that stupid name... I don't want to think of diapers every time I get into my car.

Also that HU really looks aftermarket. I prefer those found in Ford and VW vehicles, with the buttons on the side and being able to control more of the car. Of course my favorite HU is the Tesla one...

NCAP should include door close test to determine the car is solid or not.  laugh.gif

It is possible to be worse than the Vios? I thought that door was rather flimsy...

yep govt policy, but there's give and take for it. take these 2 situation:

1. expensive car to buy, petrol cheap, roadtax cheap, insurance cheap (not categorize according to CO2), no parking tax, car no need dispose after 5 years, every 3 years + 1 year every year no need go mandatory puspakom check then only can lulus roadtax

vs.

2. cheap car, petrol 1 liter RM4, roadtax expensive, insurance according to car CO2, must present parking lot certificate then only can buy car, need dispose car after 5 years, every 3 + subsequent year most mandatory puspakom check, petrol need to scout the cheapest petrol station
the 2nd one is the policy of most developed countries like Japan and UK.

which one will u prefer?
*
No need to dispose a car after 5 years in Europe. It just becomes more expensive to run as cleaner cars are introduced. Also the car needs to be in good condition. But you can easily drive your car for 50 years, if you want to.

Also petrol in Europe is at RM 6-7 brows.gif

I prefer the second system. It leads to better air quality and fewer dangerous cars on the road, including your own vehicle. You always can fix the car so it becomes roadworthy again.

I'm not surprised the 5 star is from $$. This is Malaysia, anything can happen. Just look at our GE
*
The results are from Australia though, where other Proron models didn't do well. And the Saga there had a similar result to the similar spec Saga SV tested in Malaysia.

The results are correct.

They should have advertised more that CFE means turbo.

yep..proton really did a good job with blm. blm/flx have a bright future if they manage to make it more comfortable (extra sound proofing).
*
Aren't they replacing it like next year?

I wouldn't say the Savvy is A segment. It's a slightly small B segment car perhaps.

The Savvy is 3710mm, the Yaris Dugong generation 3785mm (the predecessor was shorter than the Savvy).

I just googled for Suprima. On page 5 in the image search I could find the first photo of the Proton. Everything before (and after) are photos of adult diapers. Well done Proton thumbup.gif

I told you guys before. When Suprima S gets the attention it needs, even google image "Suprima" will be flooded with the image of the car. People of Malaysia really like to kutuk Suprima S de. Thats the stupid mindset of SOME Malaysian.
*
I'd like the car to succeed. But that name... it doesn't help. Even if there wasn't another product with that name (who knows, maybe they will even sue Proton). The Skoda Superb got ridiculed for the name. Keep in mind that is their flagship car, a vehicle rivaling cars like the Mercedes E class and BMW 5 series. A car that has the same umbrella in door feature Rolls Royce has. Really a rather superb car from a brand that has used the name like 80 years ago and has deserved itself the right to use it.

Proton on the other hand... And it isn't even their flagship car. As a young brand trying to establish itself in other countries the name can backfire. Expect a ton of jokes that the only thing suprime abour that car is the name etc.

I'm using Google.
