Just received my Plextor M5S 128GB from Hikari85, though a bit slow but still waiting for the caddy bay so I can slot the 1TB for the extra capacity to my new laptop... Yay! Yay! Yay! Can't wait to use my new laptop with SSD!

The reason for my slow in adapting SSD is the price/capacity, now with the price drop, and the time to change to a faster laptop, I have good excuses to put SSD in my laptop. brows.gif
I don't think I can ever return to the HDD, well.. except for my desktop as it's still the old BIOS so it'll probably be another year or 2 before I switch my desktop to SSD (primary boot disk) as well, with UEFI the boot is even faster by hell lot. drool.gif
New laptop boot speed now with 1TB 5,400rpm HDD is less than 15 seconds to desktop, switch to SSD? shakehead.gif Unthinkable speed. brows.gif

why bigger player like seagate and WD dont want to produce SSD in large volume? It will reduce the price.. or they want to concentrate on hybrid hdd..

Business is always complicated regarding distributing/bringing in the products. Or maybe the price tag is too high for retail price and the risk will be high in case local market not get used to it.

Seagate do have SSD lineup, u can view it at the first page latest news section.
WD is on their way...
Everything is related to the cost bro, u need to test the market value and see how's the sale go on to decide massive production or not.

Yes, people will pay a bit more for its quality if it is advertised properly.

The demand is quite crazy based on the only Samsung SSD seller's thread in garage sales lol.

Wondering as well about that issue but the heck with it, since I'll be using it for data and the burden for it to seek & write will be less so probably it won't generate so much heat plus it's running on 5,400 rpm so the heat won't be too high. hmm.gif
My current laptop is using the good old Scorpio Black, darn hot and fast but after long years of torture it's facing the old age already... sweat.gif
Speaking of Seagate, his SSD are in the market very late and their pricing isn't so much of talk about, except in the enterprise arena, hope WDC will bring down the price even more (for normal consumer). icon_rolleyes.gif

You haven't experienced how poisonous SSDs are yet? blink.gif

You really don't need to wait for a UEFI motherboard. UEFI only takes care of the pre-boot. SSD takes care of the boot and everything else afterwards. Take your SSD poison today!

From 15 seconds down to 0 seconds isn't as unthinkable as coming from > 1 minute down to 20+ seconds... hmm.gif

One, SSDs was a highly lucrative business, which is great for publicly-owned businesses driven by profits. Reducing the price, and thus the profits, will make their shareholders very unhappy. And unhappy shareholders can potentially destabilise their businesses.

Two, both Seagate and WD do not have the infrastructure required to build NAND chips, particularly chips in the 20nm or the 10nm range. They must buy their NAND chips from NAND manufacturers. And there are limited NAND manufacturers in the world, who are already selling everything they can make.

Why not??
Regardless of your platform, you will feel significant speed boost
Been using LGA775 with SSD for 1 year +
You can use SATA 6 SSD on SATA 3 port with no issue at all brows.gif
Just grab it,you will feel like just injected new life onto your pc
