Hehe.. make sure you aligned your ssd, that will give it max performance. The numbers doesn't mean anything as long as it is running its full potential while eliminating unnecessary writes -> longer life!

Usually higher speed comes with a price (for example overclocking runs hotter) but for ssd seems like speed and reliability is in the same direction..

Just received my Plextor M5S 128GB from Hikari85, though a bit slow but still waiting for the caddy bay so I can slot the 1TB for the extra capacity to my new laptop... Yay! Yay! Yay! Can't wait to use my new laptop with SSD!

Wondering as well about that issue but the heck with it, since I'll be using it for data and the burden for it to seek & write will be less so probably it won't generate so much heat plus it's running on 5,400 rpm so the heat won't be too high.
My current laptop is using the good old Scorpio Black, darn hot and fast but after long years of torture it's facing the old age already... 
Speaking of Seagate, his SSD are in the market very late and their pricing isn't so much of talk about, except in the enterprise arena, hope WDC will bring down the price even more (for normal consumer).

What's the exact model that you want or have? Because on certain model there's mSATA option, or you just want to turn the HDD into SSD and don't mind the HDD space.
I did modify mine (Lenovo G400S) HDD to optical drive slot using a caddy bay so I can have both SSD speed and HDD space at the same time.

Well for you info, almost any laptop has no problem installing SSD, for that model, it's capable of 9.5mm HDD so Plextor M5S 128GB is no problem at all. Potential? That'll depends on the optimization that you may done, also the OS that you going to install. ("I" recommend Windows 8 )

I'm surprise you call up Dell to install 3rd party hardware into your laptop.
Dell does not responsible for 3rd party hardware installation nor will they help you install it, it's beyond their scope of technical assistant and some (very strict one) will probably mark your unit as void of warranty due to user's fault, but most will still service them.
Either way I installed the SSD myself, so darn easy, just careful with clip base where you have to use some plastic to pry instead of using steel screwdriver (taught by one of the Dell engineer).

Ok guys, I need your help. Currently desperately need to buy a SSD ASAP as a replacement for my broken HDD. Maybe either Samsung 840 Pro or Plextor M5 Pro. 256GB one. I really can't decide based on price and benchmarking result. Quite similar for both of them I think. The question is which one is more reliable? Just need an honest opinion. I'm a bit conflicted in choosing.

BTW I use my laptop for heavy gaming and a bit heavy Photoshoping/video editing. Is it overkill for me to buy either one of them? Maybe regular (Not Pro one) SSD is enough?

after following optimization guide from the first page and update intel RST driver and chipset generally got overall improvements noticeably on 4k write performance and seek time has been reduce a bit.
but sequential read drop almost 40mb/s
