Hello all,

I got a job offer in Sg with the offer 3k. Was it a lot of was it little? I have a offer from Sg and 2 from Msia. Which is better? The idea of leaving my KL life and work in SG is a bit depressing  cry.gif But I wonder why so many people wanted to go Sg and work??
*
How did you get the offer? did you apply in the first place? You did not intend to work in Singapore yet received an offer? How many years of experience you have in Malaysia leh? Dollar for dollar, do you get more/less compared to what you get here?

I go fed up with Malaysia after the election. Hence I applied.
After I got the offer, I gave it a serious thought on whether to go or not. I have 5 yrs experience. If dollar to dollar vout conversion, obviously I got less.
I want to know from those who are already working in Sg, izzit really so much better working in Sg? (best if you stayed in KL before and working in Sg now)

if you can get 1:1 then it's best.
i worked in KL prior to moving here. Not much difference i would say. Travelling time, lesser for me.
Expenses, lower except for rental
workload & stress, no difference for me. Maybe not for other ppl

I don't think you have given sufficient info for us to help you to make an informed decision. You have 400k Malaysians working in SG and each is under unique circumstances.

For 3k, if you are planning to stay in SG, it can't do wonders to your lifestyle. But if you have an obligation to send money back home, it's fantastic. So weigh your options and bite the bullet if it makes sense.

I tried DTF once but can't comprehend the craze for it. The food is not fantastic; the xiao long pao is a mere OK. Definitely not worth my 30 mins. Any dim sum in Ipoh could easily taste better than DTF.
*
in Sg, you could easily find timsum that can tapau all the timsum in Ipoh. why settle for less?

I don't know what industry you're in. But with 5 years experience, 3K is a bit underpaid. Consider a Singapore fresh business grad got average $4,000 and median $3,500 according to the latest survey conducted by their government.

I also have 5 years experience here in Malaysia. After working a while in KL, I have used to certain things and if you ask me to think of leaving here, meaning leaving my family and friends behind, it is a bit awful.

But I'm also quite fed up about this election results sad.gif I see bleak future for Malaysia. If good opportunities from overseas come, I think I will have no hesitation to work there and settle down there before I can't. The notion of seeing my future generation suffer here and being deprived of education is even more awful.

For me I wouldn't come, unless you are fairly confident that your income growth / promotion prospects / etc is bigger than if you had stayed in KL. 3k is not a lot of money in SG; you'd have to take all the transport and housing downgrades but wouldn't have much to compensate upwards in other areas.

what is/are your main priorities of the job? $, family, diverse experience, etc?

i let go a lot friends in kl in communications when was transferred to sg here. the time was/is spent in self-studying part time courses. i had no choice as business unit was sold and my boss applied for i to transfer to sg from kl.

few years here with the AWS + bonus in this o&g can pay full cash for new car at least in M'sia.

working time also earlier 7.30am, go home also earlier 4.45pm compared to kl 8.30am-5.30pm, the traffic jam... to sg just need to trap at the immigration jam sometimes...
sometimes, on business travel once every month/2-3 months in a week. time just passed like that hotel/meals/transport/flights/extra allowance when travel all covered.

Hi Lilybud, I was in the same situation as you. I just decided to leave my friends, family and my dog in KL, came to Sg for the sake of currency & it allows me to send amount of money that my mum wants every month, yet splurged on stuffs that I would never be able to own if I was still stuck in KL with the pathetic salary. Just have to bear with the loneliness you would face at times when you think of your family & friends back in KL. I went back to Msia quite often, like once every 2 months to spend time with them. I think you should really try working in Sg, if you really don't like it or couldn't bear with the lifestyle here, just go back to Malaysia after 6 months. YOLO!

Ps: you can hang out with me in Sg if you needed friend. smile.gif

Sorry but i think it's underpaid... in Singapore with that price... but what field you are in? In engineering... 3 years experience.. can get around 4-5k.. depending on the company... i think 5 years should more... I alwiz see dollar to dollar conversion.. maybe you wait for a while.. and apply for more jobs in Singapore?

Try looking at the salary statistics published for your position but I won't believe the stats so much. There are some outliers of some friends' salary and myself that are not reflected.

Worth or not only you can decide based on your situation. Maybe give it a try if you don't have other commitment? 3K is not a lot but can have a good life in SG with some control of money spent I think. KL is so convenient, plenty of bus and cheap flights going KL at Friday night, and coming back on Sunday night or Monday early morning before work. I go back often and don't feel like separated from my family. Work hard and buy a car then you will be enjoying the freedom of driving around. I think you can bring in your dog with some procedures, try check with AVA the authority that control the pets. Phsyco your friends and ask them come here then everything will be same like KL. I like SG because everything is based on your competency, from my study here to my working life, scholarship, results and promotions are based on how much effort you put in and not your race, religion and connections.
