With RAM at RM115 per 1GB now (KVR), why not just go to 2GB?

@verticalforce,
Based on last PC Fair prices, the 2GB RAMs weren't worth even looking at! I believe it ranged between 6-10x the value of the 1GB RAMs... but RAM prices have dropped, though I don't believe the 2GB RAM prices would have dropped too drastically. From the 'little' reference I happen to still have with me, the prices for the 2GB RAMs are:- 1) 2GB DDR2 667 Mhz Kingston = RM750 (DDR II RAM) 2) 2GB DDR2 667 Mhz Kingston = RM1500 (SO-DIMM RAM) Anyhow, If u do decide to upgrade your RAM to 2GB and have no use for the 1GB RAM, let me know... I'm sure I wouldn't mind an additional boost on my MBP |

It's not like Government puts a lot of tax on computer's component. I blame the greedy retailers... |

@kwekeugene,
Er.. the prices I quoted weren't for 'Apple Certified RAMs'. They were from one of those loose sheets with pricing of stuff on it - hence I'm pretty sure the price stated was for Value RAMs. |

I can get 2 X 2gb stick for RM 1800 in the UK, and that is after VAT!
I expect the price to drop a lot within the next 6 months. |

@verticalforce,
The price quoted was taken off the sheet that was obtained during PC Fair a couple of months ago. Then, 1GB RAM was going for RM170-RM177 whereas, tishaban mentioned it's now RM115. Go ahead and calculate today's prices if you like or just check out at the other areas for an actual price instead of guessing. I wonder if the 2GB RAMs are even available ... I mean, at such prices.. I certainly wouldn't purchase them, unless it was totally necessary |

Kingston have those certified Apple RAMs while I see some put normal KVR RAMs into their MacBook and it's runs fine.
What the difference? Certified Apple RAMs more expensive? Stable? |

Certified Apple RAMs more expensive? Stable? then go for the Apple Certified RAMs.. which will cost u over 500++ for 2GB but it should be fine by using the Value RAMs i'm using Kingston Value RAM. no problem at all... |

I've seen 2 x 2GB sticks advertised in LYP (Thundermatch if anyone's interested) for RM600 or RM300 per piece for OEM RAM, but they don't have any in stock and don't know when they'll get stock.I expect the price to drop a lot within the next 6 months. The Kingston/Apacer/branded 2GB sticks are still going for ~US$130-150, around 3x the price of a 1GB stick so I'm waiting for it to fall more before buying. |

Hey guys, I finally got my MBP today. I have to say, as nice as it is to play with at the apple store, owning one is a completely different experience altogether.
The little things like the battery tester on the back, to the orange light on the power cable, it's those little things that make you feel like you bought a well thought out product. Even the usual stuff like MSN messenger looks better on a Mac. I'm chuffed. I have to say though, I don't like how the screen doesn't sit flush with the notebook case when shut, but since it will be siting in a sleeve whenever it's closed, I guess that won't bother me that much. I also purchased a wireless mighty mouse, and it works pretty good. Once I get settled down (I am moving in a months' time), I will think about getting some speakers and a printer to go with the MBP. And how many of your friends thought that the remote was an iPod shuffle? |

Inferno, congrats on your purchase! What you mentioned are just the hardware part, there's so much more sofware "specials" in it!
Funny about your MBP screen & body alignment. Since its just a day or two old, why dont you try your luck with the vendor?? This post has been edited by civic98: Jun 14 2007, 08:27 AM |
