Anyways, since I'm commited to taking the plunge, should I wait for leopard to ship with macs, seeing as i'd only have to wait until october anyways? Your views welcome

Hey guys, quick question: Should I buy a macbook now or wait until leopard comes out this October? I've been looking around for a new lappie, and the macbook is the only one that ticks all the boxes, albeit costing £500 more than a similarly spec-ed sony vaio...

QUOTE(tishaban @ May 29 2007, 11:14 PM) If you can wait, then yes wait for Leopard. Heck if you can wait, then better to wait for the Santa Rosa based Macbooks which will probably come early 2008. But then again, that's only around one year from the Mac OS X 10.6 plus the quad-core Intel Penryn processors so why not wait more for that in late 2008/early 2009 period. Then there's the new Intel Nehalem based processors towards the end of 2009 which will be a completely new design, promising faster and better performance... I think I'll just wait for OS X Leopard then. Santa Rosa doesn't impress me, really. How long do you want to wait? |

QUOTE(groucho @ May 30 2007, 07:42 AM) buy now, then upgrade to leopard later... although if you wait till leopard comes out then, even though there will probably be no price or hardware improvements in the laptop itself, you'll save a few 100 bucks on leopard Spoke to someone at my local mac shop, and he says if I wanna upgrade to leopard later, it'll only cost me £89.99. And seeing as I plan to sell my PC to semi-fund the purchase, I think that is an acceptable "sacrifice". Saves me time, and I get a new toy to play with, sooner. |

Hey guys, I finally got my MBP today. I have to say, as nice as it is to play with at the apple store, owning one is a completely different experience altogether.
The little things like the battery tester on the back, to the orange light on the power cable, it's those little things that make you feel like you bought a well thought out product. Even the usual stuff like MSN messenger looks better on a Mac. I'm chuffed. I have to say though, I don't like how the screen doesn't sit flush with the notebook case when shut, but since it will be siting in a sleeve whenever it's closed, I guess that won't bother me that much. I also purchased a wireless mighty mouse, and it works pretty good. Once I get settled down (I am moving in a months' time), I will think about getting some speakers and a printer to go with the MBP. And how many of your friends thought that the remote was an iPod shuffle? |

QUOTE(supazta @ Jun 14 2007, 05:12 AM) my sis actually screamed so loud thinking that she got a free ipod shuffle inside the box. The old MB's came with 512 mb of RAM right? If so, I don't think Vista would run very nicely on it. 1 gig should be ok though... How are you planning to run Vista? Bootcamp or something like Parallels?hahah. anyways, how do i install vista? i suppose my black macbook of the older spec is able to support it, no? |

According to iStat, my battery's health was 98% when I first got it. I used coconut battery to check it and it said my battery had 5507 mAh (I'm using a 15.4" MBP). The most recent check I did with coconut battery says that I only have a battery capacity of 5433 mAh. Am I not doing something right? I usually allow the computer to discharge up to about 5 minutes of charge left before jacking her up. To be honest, it was at 5423 yesterday, and after a full charge, it's gone up 10 mAh. So should I be worried? iStat claims my battery health to be at 97% (it was 96% yesterday).
Also, my computers temp is usually between the 40 to 50 degree mark, but this one time after watching a whole load of youtube videos, it was all the way up to 70!! That totally freaked me out. Anybody else experience that? |

QUOTE(torreto @ Jul 7 2007, 04:37 PM) Guys, when im using front row to watch movie, my macbook temperature can go up till 80"c is that normal or what ? scrared something might melt. after i switch off the front row the temperature goes down to normal temp. Same problem also if im using limewire to downloading songs or movie. That doesn't sound normal. Perhaps you should take it back and get it checked out. But don't worry, it things get too hot, the chip will throttle itself, and if it still is getting too hot, it will force a shutdown. But do get smcFanControl, it's awesome. http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23049 |
