Only this particular famous doctor stops LASIK, not the whole of Taiwan. Still, it is not an easy decision for him and the fact that he made it speaks of the possible long term consequences of this surgery.

I just done my lasik almost 2mnth ago from optimax. Still follow the eye drop medication.

Vision still not stabil. After late evening the vision will blur and difficult focus after long hour see monitor. It is not the lasik problem. Probably eye strain. No choice because of my work.

Just did my LASIK in optimax. Superb and fast and i'm with 0-0 now after 1 week. Enough rest is good smile.gif a bit dry eye but manageable.

Some asking around says that :

My friend had a 50-50 vision directly after LASIK. After 1 year, sticks to 50-0. yes it fluctuates. So it depends on luck.

My cousin 10 years done that and it's going good.

A few more people 3-4 years say it's going good.

No glare, no nothing reported from my friends. So i guess the risk is pretty much minimal or i'm just asking the lucky people?

Heheh, all in all, you decide if you want to do it. No one is pointing a gun at you.

After you weigh all the risks, then you make an ultimatum and stick with it. Do not waver. smile.gif

the operation painful or not xcutelilgirl?

is there any % chances of it to get fail and people get blind?

I haven't done it myself but from my friend who did it recently I know that this wasn't painful, he felt himself uncomfortable but he didn't feel actual pain. As for the risks, LASIK (like any operations) has its risks for sure. Here you can read some info about Lasik complications. Personally I think there is a very very small chance that a person will get blind. In my opinion, this chance is real small but still exists.

After any kind of eye surgery , including LASIK/LASEK.. usually patients are advised to wear protective googles for contact sports. Any form of trauma to the eyes involved are more risky compared to unoperated-eyes. Not sure bout badminton though.. hopefully the chances of the shuttlecock accidentally hit your eye or you falling down face first are 0.00001%.

Same goes for "thrilling" rides like rollercoaster , which should be avoided.

Its not "perfect vision without specs. ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANY ACTIVITIES" after LASIK.

if u play contact sports often, the doctor will recommend u to perform Lasek instead of Lasik.
Lasek will take longer to heal and it will not cut ur cornea.

talk to ur doctor about it.

Find laser eye surgery very intriguing.

Going through this thread I picked up on a few things - almost everyone reports a very positive outcome (just think, with such a cynical society, that so many can report something so positive), and the general belief is that it's safe.

I'm not yet 20, sight is probably not stable yet... but like many my eyes aren't even (3-4 one side, 2-3 one side, diff astigmatism in both). Imperfect vision aside, there's also all the hassle when picking out sunglasses or lenses... rain, watching movies, theme park rides, swimming, beaches, sleeping, any sport or physical activity, all the complications associated with contacts... the list goes on.

Would like to enjoy the benefits of such surgery asap - I understand that the myopia returns after a while, if not in a few years to a decade then longer. But, having been myopic for almost a decade, doing the surgery definitely makes sense (if you can have near perfect sight for many years, and then it returns a little, how bad can it be? You might not need glasses for it specifically, or you might already need glasses because of age or something).

No one's reported anything remotely disastrous. For me, things like glare and halos for light happen anyway (more if you are seeing without lenses). Dry eye does sound like a concern, but most people here have gotten rid of it, at least after waiting several months.

But yeah, I understand it's something that you don't want to do more than once - and that most problems (which rarely happen) can be corrected. Hopefully my eyes work for it.

Keep us updated. Very inclined to visit for some consultations within the year.
