I have just done custom LASIK last Friday at advance vision, pj uptown.

Today is the 4th day after LASIK. My vision is no where near perfect. I heard that it takes for a week or more for the eyes to get used to controlling the cornea to get perfect vision.

Right now I can't even see the astro decoder digit clock 5 feet away clearly without double vision.

It would be nice for any of you share your post LASIK experience and the expected recovery period before you got near perfect vision.

Thanks.

Some do get worse vision after LASIK for few days, but if its persisted for more than 2 weeks, then thats very bad. All the best for your eyes and pm me if you need recommendation for post LASIK lens fitter. take care.

2 weeks passed... right eye is getting better eventhough once in while with blur vision on times of the day.

but my left eye is still getting double image still. as far as i can noticed, eye sight is getting better. perhaps -0.25 now...

went for 1 week checkup at advanced vision. doctor said my age (38) will need longer time to recover and advised me not to stare at monitor too long. (i am an IT person)

dry eye problem isnt an issue anymore as i dont feel as dry as before.

well, i am hoping for the best. smile.gif

Hi guys, I am new to the forum. I am from Bangladesh.

I am 24 yrs old and have mild / moderate myopia (-2.50) in both eyes and -1.00 astigmatism in left eye. I feel so uncomfortable in glasses. Almost all the time I have to wear glasses to be functional. I can read without glasses and can do very close works without glasses but whenever I look around without glasses I feel like I am half blind. Its horrible. Everything is blurry. Nothing is clear without glasses. I feel so upset for them who have severe myopia. They must be practically totally blind. I think Lasik is a blessing for them but what about those who have mild to moderate myopia ?

I have been considering Lasik since my teenage days but I am still apprehensive about it. I even did pre-lasik tests. The doctor says I am very good candidate since I have enough corneal thickness (560 microns) to correct my myopia but still I am very very tensed.

I heard after lasik anybody can suffer corneal ectasia. This is the most serious complication of Lasik. It can happen even years after the procedure. Is it true that thousands of lasik patients are now suffering from ectasia ? OMG! this is so risky. I don't know what I will do now. I had so much hope that one day I can see clearly without uncomfortable glasses but now I don't think I can ever risk it.

I find it very embarrassing to wear glasses in a gathering. Is there any safe way to treat my eyes? I want to see clear. sad.gif

I often get so depressed for not being able to see clearly like a normal person. Nobody in my family is myopic apart from me. Being myopic is the biggest frustration of my life so far. I sometime cry alone and pray to Allah Almighty to cure my visual disorder. I am getting emotional now. Sorry.

if you're not ready for lasik and dont want to wear glasses... perhaps contact lens is your choice.

I can't even put contacts in my eyes. I tried it but just couldn't.

Really very depressed these days for my eye condition. The depression is now affecting my day to day life so much. Its also hugely affecting my self confidence. I am really tired of carrying glasses all the time on my face. Have spot on nose due to continuous wearing of glasses.

I absolutely hate wearing glasses all the time but seems like I have no more choice. Doing operation is like gambling with eyes. Anything can happen even years after the operation. Its not safe. When it comes to eyes no body should take even 1 % chance but the Lasik industry is saying they are damaging 5% eyes only ! The person who was the chief of the FDA team which approved lasik devices is now saying FDA did a huge mistake to approve it. Pioneering Taiwanese lasik surgeon just stopped doing more lasik operation to prevent epidemic of eye injury in long term. Once you get Ectasia due to weak and thin cornea after lasik the only solution is corneal transplant. This is a huge risk and this is the only fact which is keeping me away from getting Lasik.

5% of LASIK patients got damaged eyes?
I'd like to see some journal & research papers on that.

There are numerous websites on net to warn people about Lasik dangers.

Lifeafterlasik, lasik disaster, lasik complications, lasermyeyes etc. There are some scary information like

- Lasik flap never heals. It can be lifted years after the initial procedure. There is always a microscopic scar in eyes that underwent lasik.

- Lasik thins and weakens the cornea by cutting on a healthy cornea. Weak and thin cornea after lasik is in risk of serious disease called Ectasia (corneal bulging). There have been numerous case of post lasik ectasia.

There are also many you tube videos warning people about Lasik.

Before You Let Them Cut on Your Eyes

The lasik industry says the procedure has 95% success / satisfaction rate. What about the rest 5% ?

This procedure seems like a controversial procedure. unsure.gif

Because this type of surgery is NEW & has become MAINSTREAM very quickly.
& the fact that intuitively, laser & eyes don't mix very well.

& where did you get the 95% satisfaction rate?
Any reliable source?

Anyhow, the 5% dissatisfied doesn't mean 5% damaged eyes.
It could possibly be those who have high expectation but did not get the perfect vision after LASIK.
I did not get 20/20 vision but am perfectly satisfied.

Again, RELIABLE SOURCES please.
We don't entertain conspiracy-type websites.
Just do a search on GOOGLE SCHOLAR to find the papers.

I don't know if those are conspiracy type websites but they have sources of those information. Its really hard to ignore those information in those websites because not a single fact sounds untrue.

I was saving money for the procedure but after going through those websites and youtube videos I am now totally depressed. Seems like I have to live my life with glasses forever.

That's cherry picking the bad points and convincing yourself not to do it. You'll really need to look into the credibility behind the mention of these points, and proceed to judge whether it's at a risk level you can manage. My point is, it is quite obvious that your judgement is not free from significant bias, as you have not weighed the factors properly and rationally.

I have a friend who has complained of having significant night vision deterioration post-lasik. Especially when driving on dark highway sudden changes in lighting (ie bright car headlamps after driving in darkness especially those HID lamps) can cause him to have serious glare and problem focusing.

He is however on the whole happy with the operation as previously his power was 600-700++.

Am considering but need to drive at night though......... blink.gif

Yeah he also told me at night he have a "ghosting" or "halo" effect when looking at light.

Lets say, dark at night, then he look at streetlight (not very bright our usual orangey light) he will see a fuzzy ring or somesort around the light. I can't fully explain cos I've never seen it though.

But overall he seem to be happy with the results - so I guess is not something he cannot live with.

But if night vision is important to you or your job maybe best is talk to the doctor of course. To be on safe side you should consult more than 1 eye doctor (especially one that don't do LASIK).

Common sense right, if you want impartiality then should also ask from those not doing your surgery cos they have vested interest haha. biggrin.gif
