if it rained and washed most of the dirt, assuming the car was previous well waxed and within a week's time or so, doing with QD should be fine as it has lubricating properties in it

there is a reason why people generally recommend QD as clay lube, no?
*
If the car is waxed earlier then should be fine to do it with QD but however I still find is not so safe to wipe it like that (my own preference la) I would straight go to shampoo. Since the rain already bring down the dirt to the surface as well just wash it with shampoo (I find more safer to prevent scratches) if you have jet spray then is good to give a rinse then wipe with QD. Depends also la if the rain stop and you spot not much dirt then can go for QD, I've seen my car after rain the surface looks matt in color although I have a layer of wax but I still go for washing the whole car with shampoo and re-wax with spray wax.

If your car have a layer of wax/coating the waterspot wont easily get etch quickly. At least you can get it cure before that. If is me i wash my car whenever is wet or ramp into puddle of water.

I just wash my car every weekend as usual. More often IF I have the time and opportunity. Would need a whole lot of QD if I were to use that and I just couldn't make the rinseless wash work for me.

I just bought a car with solid white.

First day I applied Polymer sealant from Perma Glass and I satisfied with the result.

Is there any tips to maintain the solid white colour and also to maintain is brightness.... without fading to yellow?

You may try coating the car if you have the budget. My friend did the same.

Definitely need to be hard working to wash the car, and also if can, invest in some long lasting wax/sealant.

Learn the correct technique to clean and wash your car too.

One word for you bro, be hardworking on the maintenance. Washing is a must! Depends on the weather and how much dirt on the car. To maintain its gloss you need to apply sealant/wax whenever its wear out. Please also notice white car cant expose to the sun much as will end up discoloration especially the bumpers.

Hi everyone. Have a question.

I am thinking of polishing my car. I saw Meguiar's Ultimate Polish looks great. Besides Meguiar's products, is there any other recommended polishing product?

Car always in indoor - apply sealant and top up with wax will last you for 2months ++ (good wax), depends on the quality of wax and frequent wash will minimize the durability of the sealant/wax. If you are a lazy person please look up for Duragloss Aqua Wax, this wax can last after a few washes, provide nice gloss and durability. My recommendation. If you want a longer lasting try Meguiars Synthetic sealant, and then top up with NXT Tech Wax (synthetic wax last longer than carnauba) then with a spray wax on top of it. Lasted me about 1month(beading) (always under the sun) did 4 times of wash the water beading effect still there.

Car always at outdoor - Wax will melt especially under the sun, need to apply every 2-3weeks once. If you want to make the job easier and faster, please look up for spray wax/sealant. Dont look down at them, they certainly save you alot of time and provides good protection. Just that need to apply frequently. If you want to have a smooth feeling on the surface please do a clay treatment to remove surface contaminants to boost up.

Please note my calculation might be wrong. There are these few things will decrease the durability of sealant/wax

1. heat (outdoor parking)
2. tree saps (those who park under the tree)
3. waterspots (critical damage)
4. washing (wiping the surface)
5. pressure gun too near the surface
6. water fell from roof (half porch covered)
7. water fell from tree

First and foremost, again, MAINTENANCE.
After you apply wax/sealant, maintain the upkeep with regular wash, at least once a week if possible. Spray waxes/sealants (eg. DG Aquawax, Optimum Car Wax, Sonax Brilliat Shine, Dodo Juice Red Mist, Mothers Spray Wax, 3M Quick Wax Spray, etc.) would prolong the need to re-wax/re-seal if used after a couple of washes. Most importantly, they are very convenient to use and it would take only about 5min ~ 10min to apply. When I was using these combo, I only needed to re-apply 'proper' wax/sealant around every 4 months ~ 6 months or so, depending on the weather conditions and mileage. So, if you adhere to a proper maintenance regime, the annual polish/wax as 'recommended' my most automotive supplier *could* apply. If not, you'd most probably need to re-do monthly or bi-monthly, depending on the products used (provided that it's done properly). Complicated? A little....yeah. But to put simply, if you see the beading or sheeting of water aren't to your liking anymore, or when you see black/dirt streaks or stain not coming off after a wash, signs are the paint is in need of a fresh layer of protection.

Without any details of what product, tools, method, etc. you're planning on using, I can only suggest one thing - PATIENCE. DO NOT RUSH and make sure you allow ample time to finish the whole process. Good luck and have fun ya.

I have to admit I'm an avid fan of Meguiars when it come to polishes. Though I've tried quite a few other brands, Megs' polishes are ones that can always be trusted and worked *almost* every time when it's used for its intended purposes. Most of other brands are hit-and-miss for me. It could well be due to the fact that I'm kinda used to them and their workings but, if anything, Megs would be a good starting point to get to know about detailing.

Oh....and the 'looks great' is more like 70% skills/techniques and 30% product....just in case some products didn't work as expected/marketed.... tongue.gif

got a question.. after using OPC to clean off the dirts, the paint looks abit dull, or probably quite dull.. i guess i left it too long on the paint, although OPC didnt dry off - i kept spraying once or twice every 10-15 secs so it wont dry off.... or the concentration was too thick and it stripped out most of the oils?

not sure whether polishing will help in bringing back the shine? polishing might add the oils back in?

just bought OptiCoat off arj rclxms.gif planning to OptiCoat my car this coming week - but first, have to solve the dulling problem after using OPC..

hmm.... sifu-sifu sekalian, noobie needs abit of icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif ..

thanks! notworthy.gif

Thanks guys for providing so much info of sealing and waxing. I am still very fresh in car paint protection. What is sealant different from wax ? I saw so many different product which I am sure what is for what usage. Some other like coating what is it all about. Finally, I might not have time to really do so much DIY. Any car detailing shop to recommend within Puchong or Subang area ? I don't mind to spend some money every 2 months for touch up

Sorry...but may I know who gave you the idea of the paint containing 'oil' that you can remove or put back? That's new to me. As far as I know, once cured, the cars' paint/clear coat is quite impermeable to any oil. Those dullness *might* just be the actual conditions of your paint or it also *could* be, like I've experienced, residue from OPC that's causing some haziness to the paint. If the latter, can't be easily washed of but can be easily polished off with a paint cleaner or mild polish.

If you're talking about those stuffs on the rack of shopping complexes, then wax/sealant/polish are used interchangeably and could mean any one or the other. Detailers have their own interpretation of the terminology, they're something like this:
wax - normally in paste form; normally contains more natural ingredients - for protection of the paint.
sealant - normally in liquid form; ingredients are more synthetic than natural - for protection of the paint.
polish - normally in liquid form; can either contain chemical cleaner or abrasives or both - for 'deep cleaning' and removing defects on paints.

How about Glenmarie, google for ExtremeAutoDetailing......
