Hi all, im quite new here and the search function aint getting me anywhere so i might as well post here to ask.. my question is what the diff between  polish and wax? how often we need these two or either 1 is enough to do the job? thanks for the reply teachers..

Hi,

Polish can be very confused as many people will ask the detailer how many steps you will do? When they say "STEPS" means washing is a step, clay also a step, polish also a step, remove tar also step, waxing also step bla bla all add together will have more than 10steps!!! What they mean is just how many steps they will do to your car. And another famous question from the customer. "HOW MANY LAYER"??? These 2 make a huge different. Waxing can count as layer, polish can count as layer too but how will ended up 3-5layers? Simple, in correcting (polishing) your paint before we start, they will inspect your paint and see what polishing method required. If you are looking for a optimum result such as (swirl free, watermark free or scratch-less, mirror finish, glossy) this might need about 4steps of polishing routine which is below

COMPOUNDING - This step is aggressive as it will cut off a thin layer of clear coat to remove defects, swirls, water mark and etc. However it will look cloudy and has very tiny marring left over. This step is mostly make the big difference in the polishing cycle. But, we still need to refine the marring that left over.

CUTTING - This step is to remove the marring which had been compounded, but still the surface will look slightly cloudy, if the car is place under the sun (especially black car) you'll still will spot hologram aka Buffing Trials

POLISH - To enhance the gloss, polish provide light cut to make the surface look more glossy. This step will eliminate the buffing trials to create depth and clearer clarity on the surface. If your car have light swirls, polish is enough to remove most of the light swirls/defects.

FINISHING/GLAZING - This step has a lighter cut than polish, doesnt have any ability to cut the paint, this step is to make your car look more extra wet and glossy. However finishing polish has filler inside which will cover all the swirls. Once your car wash off the swirls will be spotted just like a girl putting foundation on her face.

So all these layer can count as 4 layer polish on the paint and waxing another layer so total is 5layer polish and wax.

Waxing is a protection, it has UV block, protects against harsh elements, easy to wash, water will glides so your surface will look clean and glossy compare to a car which has naked protection the car will look dirty and the dirt will stick on it easily after rain. However in our weather, you need to apply quite frequently as wax will melts in our hot country, best is park under basement so it will last longer.

Another famous question from customer.. how long wax will last? I cant really tell you how long it will last, it depends where you park your car, what your car expose to and how often you wash your car, all these will affect the durability of the wax. But if you say which is the best wax on the shelf i would say synthetic wax last longer than carnauba wax. Although I like the gloss from the carnauba but it doesnt last, I would prefer synthetic.

How long you need to polish? This will depend how particular and how much you love your car. If a well maintained car doesnt need to keep polish. But I will say no matter how careful you wash the car it still will have a few tiny hair line scratch but is not visible that much, if you find your car have these hair lines, a light polish would be best to remove them as they are not deep like scratches. You need to sacrifice some time to maintain your car if you want to have a glossy, handsome smart car. Same goes to girls they sacrifice their time every night just to maintain their faces. You need to know a car doesnt have much of clear coat for you keep polish, a girl face cant scrub everytime too if not their skin will peel off, so the best way to have a good looking car is to maintain it after you polish. Hope it helps and thanks for reading.

Guys, where can I find a reliable car wash, without scratches, swirl marks, I don't mind price as long reasonable, in KL or Pj?

bring your own washing cloth and drying towel to them. maybe can reduce swirling.

Hi,

Do consider this detailing brush from Valet Pro. It made with pig hair, not recommended for muslim buddies. Or else you can get a paint brush instead. And try look for another detailing brush which made with horse hair.

Guys recently keep raining, how do u maintain ur car? Dry ur car then use quick detailer?

Wash with shampoo, dont just clean with QD, that will scratch the paint. Will suggest rinse down the car and wash with shampoo and dry it. I usually do this after rain. Sometimes the rain bring down alot contaminant to the paint, for safer method will suggest you wash the car with shampoo.

if it rained and washed most of the dirt, assuming the car was previous well waxed and within a week's time or so, doing with QD should be fine as it has lubricating properties in it

there is a reason why people generally recommend QD as clay lube, no?
*
If the car is waxed earlier then should be fine to do it with QD but however I still find is not so safe to wipe it like that (my own preference la) I would straight go to shampoo. Since the rain already bring down the dirt to the surface as well just wash it with shampoo (I find more safer to prevent scratches) if you have jet spray then is good to give a rinse then wipe with QD. Depends also la if the rain stop and you spot not much dirt then can go for QD, I've seen my car after rain the surface looks matt in color although I have a layer of wax but I still go for washing the whole car with shampoo and re-wax with spray wax.

If your car have a layer of wax/coating the waterspot wont easily get etch quickly. At least you can get it cure before that. If is me i wash my car whenever is wet or ramp into puddle of water.

I just bought a car with solid white.

First day I applied Polymer sealant from Perma Glass and I satisfied with the result.

Is there any tips to maintain the solid white colour and also to maintain is brightness.... without fading to yellow?
*
One word for you bro, be hardworking on the maintenance. Washing is a must! Depends on the weather and how much dirt on the car. To maintain its gloss you need to apply sealant/wax whenever its wear out. Please also notice white car cant expose to the sun much as will end up discoloration especially the bumpers.

What will be the frequency needed to have wax / sealant for white car ? Every few months ?
*
Car always in indoor - apply sealant and top up with wax will last you for 2months ++ (good wax), depends on the quality of wax and frequent wash will minimize the durability of the sealant/wax. If you are a lazy person please look up for Duragloss Aqua Wax, this wax can last after a few washes, provide nice gloss and durability. My recommendation. If you want a longer lasting try Meguiars Synthetic sealant, and then top up with NXT Tech Wax (synthetic wax last longer than carnauba) then with a spray wax on top of it. Lasted me about 1month(beading) (always under the sun) did 4 times of wash the water beading effect still there.

Car always at outdoor - Wax will melt especially under the sun, need to apply every 2-3weeks once. If you want to make the job easier and faster, please look up for spray wax/sealant. Dont look down at them, they certainly save you alot of time and provides good protection. Just that need to apply frequently. If you want to have a smooth feeling on the surface please do a clay treatment to remove surface contaminants to boost up.

Please note my calculation might be wrong. There are these few things will decrease the durability of sealant/wax

1. heat (outdoor parking)
2. tree saps (those who park under the tree)
3. waterspots (critical damage)
4. washing (wiping the surface)
5. pressure gun too near the surface
6. water fell from roof (half porch covered)
7. water fell from tree
