Coating is a form of protection that you apply onto the paint, same like wax and sealant except that it's far longer lasting. The correct step would be: polish (to shine) -> coating/wax/sealant (to protect)

1 more question here. Is "sealant" equivalent to synthetic wax? I am confused with this term.

Yeah...it is quite confusing when the market/manufacturer/consumers dictates what is what when the terms they're using are quite different from the way we understand it. I'll let Mike Phillips explain it la...he's better in explaining stuffs.....

the following Q&A's could be good reference for others:

- are the pads that come with the Rupes set more balanced than outside pads? SG/Msia Rupes also told me it's best to stick with their pads (could be marketing bias, however SG source ALSO sells Lakecountry so... rclxub.gif )

- how are the
9.BFKERAMIK250 Gel compound fine (250 ml)
9.BFDIAMOND250 Gel compound ultra fine (250 ml)
compounds that come with it?

I haven't got the Rupes' pads (yet?), but ALL those colleagues whom I know are using Bigfoot with the Rupes pads told me that they do work better (more balanced - less vibration) than other non-Rupes pads.

No idea on their compound and polish.....

May I know how frequent should we polish our car? Using Meguiars Ultimate Polish. I'm thinking of doing so once a month and followed by waxing after polishing, but my old folks are claiming that the paint will get thin. Will the paint really get thin when polishing too much?

Presuming you're working by hand, you would hardly remove much clear coat....quite safe if you do every month. Just that I can't think of any condition whereby you would need to polish every month. Maybe you should try waxing every month and polishing every three months or so instead.

May I ask in this Lowyat detailing community, does any one has a step by step guide with pictures of before/after and during the steps for a paint touch up job by using those touch up paint available in shopping mall (like ENEOS, Carrefour now Aeon Big, Jusco now Aeon, etc). One of the product that can be easily get from shopping mall is AutoSpa Touch Up Paint.

I had used it several times on my silver car to touch up rock chip damage paint spots. Try different methods. All not looking great. The color does match up nicely though but the texture of the surface make it easily noticeable. It get worse especially when I tried to put a clear coat (also AutoSpa touch up paint product) on top of the already not so good looking base coat touch up paint. The clear coat liquid obviously behave at a way more difficult to handle than the base coat liquid, making the texture even more noticeable.

Then after it dries for week, I thought of a compounding on that ugly surface will level up the texture and make the appearance looks better but this fails to work because once I have finish compounding till the surface of the rock chip touch up smooth to touch, the surrounding area also becomes more "new", so making it a very smooth but different color tone surface. cry.gif

I would deem that a spray kind of touch up paint will be better but since I never came across any normal size aerosol spray touch up paint made according to the color code of car like the AutoSpa so this idea has to remain as idea.

Will greatly appreciate if any one can share useful rock chip touch up lesson. The key is try to avoid whole panel respray since this kind of rock chip problem appears over and over again so does not make sense every time also re-spray whole panel just because of a single dot. But I am car geek i hate to see rock chip on my car, I believe all of you do too and understand my feeling. icon_question.gif

Use leather cleaner to clean leather.

For APC I use Simple Green. Bought from Ace Hardware.
