Hi everyone. Have a question.

I am thinking of polishing my car. I saw Meguiar's Ultimate Polish looks great. Besides Meguiar's products, is there any other recommended polishing product?

Does polishing help to remove minor scratch ?
*
Yes, it will. Depends on the type of polishing product too. The one that truly eliminates the minor scratch would be those polishing products that are abrasive because it actually removes abit of your clear coat.

Correct me if I am wrong. smile.gif

Coating is a form of protection that you apply onto the paint, same like wax and sealant except that it's far longer lasting. The correct step would be: polish (to shine) -> coating/wax/sealant (to protect)
*
1 more question here. Is "sealant" equivalent to synthetic wax? I am confused with this term.

Yeah...it is quite confusing when the market/manufacturer/consumers dictates what is what when the terms they're using are quite different from the way we understand it. I'll let Mike Phillips explain it la...he's better in explaining stuffs.....

Today my car just passed by a road where some white paint was thrown to the road. When I got off from my car, there're speckles of paint near the right door-side of my car.

I Google and some people said use alcohol, nail polisher, or maybe claybar. I just washed my car and the paint are still there. The house paint can only get off if I use my hand to rub it (I stop this as I am afraid I might end up scratching my car).

So any idea to solve this?

hello all sifus,

I wanna try doing detailing to my 2009 black satria neo:

so far from what i've read (or skim)

1. wash, either using soap or detergent - do i really need to use meguiars?
2. claying - erm, 3M / PG / Mothers / meguiars? lube use water or need diluted soap?
3. wash again?
4. polish, this is the part where i do not know what to use, can recommend?
5. sealant? is this required? if yes what to use
6. wax, i looked around, i see some brands like mothers and turtle, even meguiars but i really dont know what to choose.

can get some advice please? product aint cheap >.< haha

things i gotta get would be MF, clay bar, soap, power tool (pinjam from friend, he has a skil polisher), time and space?

thank you very much!
*
1. Wash, make sure you use two-bucket system. Not necessary need to use meguiars. There are still other cheaper products out there (eg: mothers, optimum car wash, etc.)

2. Lubricant can be quik detailer. Cheaper way would be using diluted car shampoo. Should be fine. For the type of claybar, need other sifu to point out too.

4. I leave this to other sifu too. Not very experience on this.

5,6. I guess wax and sealant, you just apply either one. I would say the term wax refers more towards natural wax whereas sealant is more about synthetic wax. Natural wax gives you glossy and wet shiny look. Synthetic provides last longer protection.

These are what I know. I am still a beginner/learner too biggrin.gif Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

osren and duragloss gotta get online or their physical shop in kl or pj, might as well go motorshow see any good product available before deciding what to buy
*
Oh okay. Yeah, they have some physical shops/distributors at certain location.

Actually I am looking for duragloss product too. Just wondering whether the website of duragloss malaysia is still operating or not. Because Google Chrome is telling me the certificate is suspicious. So not dare to carry out any transaction there. sad.gif

beside clay.. is there any other way? cos i never use clay before..
*
Clay is not very tough to use. Just make sure you have enough lubricant(eg: use ONR, Turtle Wax Rinse Free Wash & Wax, car shampoo, etc.) while claying. Apply gentle force when claying on the paint.

If you ask me where to get the clay, I would say lowyat Automotive Garage? Haha. There are people selling for 3M, Meguiars claybar.

I was searching for hand applicator pad. Then, I saw this:

user posted image

Is the yellow-color-holder a holder that can buy from the market? What's it called actually?

Also, most of the time I only found pads for DA. Are those pads applicable for hand use?

I'm not sure what that 'holder' is called but local Sonax does sell something with similar function called the Sonax P-Ball, RRP at RM38.

DA pads are ok for hand use. Actually, I like them better as I know their level of aggressiveness....
*
Okay, I see. So, it's not necessary to purchase those specialized hand applicator pads(eg: CCS euro foam, etc.) but you can just use DA pads to polish/wax by hand.

Is that correct?

I had the meg scratch removal 2.0. Can I ask what is the most effective way to use it to remove scratch ?
*
Hmm, I am not sure. I guess as long as you have an applicator pad, apply the product on the applicator pad (make sure "pre-wet" it), then work on the scratch area, then it will work like a charm? Just my opinion. biggrin.gif

I just realized I got sun burnt on my back and a lot of small details thing not done properly; like polish over to the black plastic skirting and gaps and etc. But I am satisfy with my first time job.  whistling.gif

Looks great! Did you use IPA or panel wipe after you polish your car? Or you just wax the car with Collinite #476 after polish?

Also, how's Osren 2.4? Thinking to buy this product too haha.

hi all the sifu, any ideas how to remove bake tree sap? already try IPA, polish (by hand), clay, also can,t remove....
tq

Probably you can try to use tar remover to remove the tree sap. Make a few pass on the contaminated area. Re-wax the area after that.
