Can any provide the detailing products which can purchase locally?
Wash, clay, polish, sealant, etc..
Quite number of similar products but unsure which is the most suitable to use smile.gif
The easier way is to start with a brand that has everyting that you need. Most established brand would have the basic products that you mentioned. If you're looking to buy them from local stores (specifically ACE Hardware), you can look for Meguiars, Mothers, Sonax, 3M, etc. For online, Meguiars, Mothers, Duragloss, Sonax, or Optimum. I can try to suggest details from each brand if you like.

When you say "purchase locally", you meant getting it OTC(Over the Counter) as in easily bought in Supermarkets, or it's OK to purchase online from local sites and shipped to you?

preferably to purchase over counter, maybe eneos or ace hardware smile.gif

Currently I using cheapo Permeglass clay bar and sealant too on my current car... But planned for new car this year and looking for better detailing methods by DIY with better products... smile.gif

the reasons I ask for assistance as too much variety of choices, such as Meguairs Waxing have 3 different type even though I can understand the purpose for each products, some wax come with polish compound etc and looking for best combination of products for better result...

anyway, i looking the product which serve the only purpose, clay means clay only, wax means wax only some sort... Meaning not looking for those all in one (wash + polish + wax) products smile.gif

Meguairs. I think its the brand from washing to sealing products you can get in a single store, like in ACE hardware.

I believe you can find everything you need in ENEOS/ACE. But probably not all from a single brand .

QUOTE(KrisMas @ May 31 2013, 03:41 PM)
- Well...first off....you need AT LEAST 2 layers to get a decent enough beading with ES, one layer would do with the other two.
- OS is a nice beader, ES is a good sheeter and ZCS is somewhere in-between.
- On my burgundy Waja, OS looks nicer, ES doesn't do much and ZCS is, again, somewhere in-between.
- Slickness OS -> ZCS -> ES
- Durability (by observing the beading and sheeting), ES -> ZCS -> OS
- Protection against water spots, contaminant, etc., same as above.
- Ease of application, about the same

I've only used OS & ES on wheels. Very easy to apply as you just wipe it on and leave it to cure, again, under the sun would be best. If use Megs APC to wash, one wash was all it needed to remove OS altogether; ES still got a little bit of life left. If use normal shampoo, I could put OS as lasting around 2 ~ 3 weeks and ES maybe another additional week or two. Again, I have to say, ES is NOT a beader so don't expect the rims to have nice beading, but it does sheet water better than OS.

Local Retail Price
ES - RM 77 - 8oz
OS - RM 125 - 8oz
ZCS - around RM 150 - 6oz

Value for money...well....go figure.... tongue.gif

But just FYI, I'm currently testing this on my Chery OEM wheels (which look curiously similar to Waja OEM.... tongue.gif ):

Sonax Xtreme Brilliant Shine Detailer

A few test by the guys in Europe shows that it's quite resilient to chemical cleaner. Though not as easy to apply as the three above but it's easy enough. And retailing at RM86 for 750ml, so far it looks very promising.

Thanks man, appreciate your thoughts. I'm leaning towards OS put the price is a huge setback - and in the US, Optimum us fairly priced amongst its competitors.

Also, new get:

ENEOS, you can look for SONAX.

Yes, you should not have any problem looking for wash only, clean only, seal only and wax only.

If you want to discuss in detail what is more suitable, plenty of people will share their experience.

is ok. i have read a blog or something b4 (sorry dunno is which so cant google it) that this guy compares some cheapo otc products that u can get for like below rm20 and pit it against its strong competitor (yes like optimum megs turtle dg etc) and surprisingly it works better than most of it.

the point is..cheap or expensive is ok as long as you know what you want and know HOW to use it...as per the directions whistling.gif

regarding the wax. yes different purposes. but im sure most sifu here will recommend u that a polish should only polish. wax that only wax. and so on.

Are you having problem with your car that it is not clean enough? Or you want to see some water beading?

If you are currently purely claying and sealing, may I suggest you something like DG 501. You need to clean the surface of oil/substance, before sealing.

This way your sealant can last longer. Your car can be cleaned easier too for the next wash.

The PG sealant can see the water beading... But having hard time for buff away the haze of sealant... By removing the haze may creating the minor scratches too as some dirts building up when cleaning... So looking for alternative methods which may easier for detailing too...

From your posts, sounds like you've already done quite some readings and have a good understanding of what you're looking for. In your case, let me suggest a mix of brands instead of only sticking with one. Reason being, I don't think there's one single brand that excel in everything. I'm also going for the assumption that you intend to use the products by hand (with future upgrading to a DA/ROB).

1. Clay - Soft99 Clay bar. Try to get the one for White color car. Or if you're willing to spend a little more, get the 3M clay - blue colour in a black tub/container.
2. Compound & Polish - I suggest the Megs twin Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish. These two would be able to tackle *almost* any defects.
3. Sealant - now this is the tricky part. For OTC I would suggest 3M Perfect-it Show Car Paste Wax. But if you're wiling to make an exemption, I strongly suggest getting Duragloss 105 Total Performance Polish. There are a couple of shops around PJ area that sells them. You can find them at Duragloss Malaysia Web.

Oh...and after all the above, I do need to stress that THE MOST important part in detailing is actually MAINTENANCE. There's really no point in spending all your time and money doing up your car to shine to your expectations and then getting it all swirled up again after one (or two) washes. You should find yourself a good quality shampoo, wash mitt and, most importantly, drying cloth, and study the proper washing and drying techniques. With good maintenance, chances are, you won't need to do a full detail job for quite a few months.

Regards.

I'm not sure how they operate, but you *might* be able to get them at Optimum Malaysia authorised dealer/distributor's place. Other than that, I don't know any place that sells them off the shelves.

1) to add on a bit, soft99 clay works, and is damn cheap (~rm40)
the only drawback is that it's too gentle for cars that are badly maintained or under heavy usage (like mine sweat.gif) but yea being gentle, chances of you damaging the paint is pretty much zero.

3) TPP out of stock at the moment from duragloss malaysia (i was actually inquiring that before i got my megs ultimate liquid wax lol)

_______________________________

btw Krismas , for megs WB, do i use it full strength or do i need to dilute? and can i use it as an IPA/cleaner after dilution? if so what kinda dilution i should work on?
similar dilution question for APC, what application do i use it with full strength or dilution? (and what dilution ratios?)

I am on opti-seal, no need buffing though. But some do say that it is too pricey..

So far it works for me just fine, but I do top up with wax after sealing.

Others might be able to suggest other more user-friendly products.

But do consider the Duragloss 501 before applying sealant.
