seriously... yes...
you guys must understand why that advise was given.

bike at that price range are pretty much the same in terms of performance and component across the different brand.

there is really not much different in between the different components offered in these bikes around the same pricing bracket. they all perform similarly except for the brand and look and feel of the bike.

so it very much down to personal preference of which style and brand you personally like.

additional advice for getting a new bike
- get the right size fitting (important)
- get a hardtail bike instead of a fullsus. simpler = easier to learn and ride. less things to go wear and tear.

Are you saying at certain price range eg Rm1000 range or Rm2000 range, all the bike are more or less the same.

I strongly disagree as I believe there are some bikes that are better build or equiped even at the same price range. Some rides better etc. To simply say choose the color you like sound more like an insult to the budget rider.

@lightning69,

I strongly agree with you. Just like when you ask a rich man what car to buy under $100,000 and he will tell you it's all the same. To him its all subjective.

MTB in this forum has become an elitist sport, insults and sarcasm are its prodigal fruits. shakehead.gif

yes... they of coz have differences if you want to go to that extend of details. but how big of a different is another thing to consider. mind you when we say choose color, it's a figure of speech brother!! other than color, the basic things like getting the right size for the right fit applies and of coz the advice to get a hardtail type of bike from reputable brand. the rest very much boil down to personal preference.

for bikes in 1-2k range, the different in the components equipped are small, more or less they perform the same within the same pricing range of bikes.. the cheaper the bike the more generic equipment they will have. many cases the equipment are meant for road and taman rides. the differences mostly cannot be felt in actual off roading condition (lets focus mountain biking, not taman riding). bike frame geometry also not much different.. in most cases you cant even get the geometry data.

that is why when come to beginner, really the differences between those bikes in 1-2k range dont really matter much. you dont even know what differences is different beside the model name. so for beginner, these are fine to test water. getting serious in offroading, likely those bike cant handle the abuse and go bust quickly. the next upgrade up the level usually cost quite a bit to make a different.

do also remember, in this thread everyone is talking about mountain biking the activity which are pretty rough sport. equipment always get bashed and wear and tear happen quite often. and very often there might be misunderstanding especially some different in thinking with newbie who come in looking to get a mountain bike for casual rides.

you are wrong... that example is not valid. should not just look at just the $$
a better example is like asking the 4x4 off roader people which RM50k car can go off road here!!
the answer is none!! maybe a 2nd car but those old 4x4 cash term and alot offroading parts are expensive since they are built more robust. same here in mountain biking.

so, we are not asking you to buy expensive bike.
rather we ask you to buy a decent bike... 3-4k a good budget for a decent entry.

is just some of you take it offendingly when there is page 1 to read about the general guides.
what more when people come in and ask without doing basic homework of posting a question.

Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to flame here LOL. I do agree at Rm1-2k MTB are entry level which is all low end stuff, but a little more advise would be more helpful than simply choose the color....don't you all agree?

you tell me what to choose for mountain biking? there is not much different to start with than wasting time.
but if you ask about 1-2k bike in casual biking thread... maybe there is more to it.

at the end of the day, they are no much different... different is negligible. just buy one and test it out.. once u like it and plan to do more.. u will already have plan to get a decent one.

its the buyer homework. buyer interested need to go shop around and come back seek which narrowed down bike is a better deal. not just which bike to buy for 1k budget.

Price dont matter. Really. What matters is to me, if getting a budget ride, go steel. I have a GTA alloy i use for training and its fine.

My primary bike, a 1-2k bike is fairly good. Geometry is good. As i jump and light downhill, serves me well. Its not as fast as a real downhill bike but its good. No dents, no cracks and no problems since its super heavy and stiff.

People can get bargains. I believe that can happen. But please, dont mock people who cant buy yet their dream ride. I was once trolled here when i shared my red GTA and people said that their forks were more expensive than my whole bike. True but riding the GTA got me into riding so much i saved up and got my fave ride today.

I think we can be civilised right? we malaysians right?

not quite the price matter or not issue here. rather the kind of bike once can get within that price range.

just some look at price alone too much... some can afford but not willing and some cant afford and willing.
matter of personal choice. some can use supermarket bike to shed downhill and whip better than anyone here... but that do not mean we go advice everyone do that and causes so much injury.

shouldn't get too personal.. this is a forum on the internet afterall. always take with a pinch of salt than sensitive of feeling insulted. if people are serious and keen.. should come out and ride and meet actual person and ride rather fully dependent on the web.
