The 50mm f1.8D has lesser distortion and vignetting, colour very nice and sharp. My gf prefer 50mm over 35mm duno why. Perhaps she feels the bokeh and colour is nice.

35mm wide enough to take 3-5 people, fast in focussing, sharp, but duno why overall colour still lose 50mm. I read reviews that 35mm have distortion, vignetting occurs at big aperture (lower number of f), darker colour toning at the side.

I have tried 50mm f1.8G, superb fast and silent focusing, darn sharp if compare with 35mm f1.8g. I duno why too...thats why it makes me dilemma in choosing 35mm f1.8G and 50mm f1.8G as their secondhand price is almost similar. But I chosen 35mm because of is focal length, I don't need to stand so far to take portrait photo.

Perhaps I consider replace my 50mm f1.8D with 50mm f1.8G.... is that wise and worth? any reviews from sifu and pro?

50 f1.8g is sharper than both 35mm and 50mm 1.8d.. maybe u could save some money for 85mm? bt 85mm on dx is wayy too long..

i love the 50mm quality..both it's bokeh n sharpness are better..bt focal length is a problem..>< >< .. if outdoor shooting, 50mm would be lovely..indoor, 35mm rite?
i think i'll get 50mm 1.8g la.

Haha yeah, suitable for street photography and indoor like restaurants etc. Yes, 50mm like hanging in the air, not too wide, not too tele =.=
I like 50mm f1.8G too...but I feel I lack a wide angle.

I consider about 85mm focal length too...like too long for me. Seldom use this length.

Recently broke ad, recovering my wound and save money for DX wide angle lens? FX lens? or FX body? not sure yet. But now I feel want to get a MB-D80 battery grip. hard to grab my D90 vertically...

don't know what to buy is a clear sign of don't know what you shoot, what you like to shoot, and what's your style / preference.

you already have a D90 and a good set of lens. stick with it unless you want to try something else, eg Macro or UWA landscape

Yea, now still hobbyist (which hardly spend time and serious to learn) stage and play around/master with DX 1st. if really go deeper then upgrade to FX but not DX. as FX body tech continue to improve, it is better invest on lens 1st. that's why still considering lo. many factors like time (still students then will work in future, mindset tends to change, maybe invest on property bla bla bla), income etc.

If continue to buy DX lens, then they are hardly to be use with FX body if upgrade in future. like wasted lo since I can prepare to pump for FX lens and use it temporary on DX body. So now still in dilemma and figuring out lo, only buy the DX lens when need them.

This is my first DSLR, wanted a camera so much since secondary school but not manage to get it. Just realize how important memories are until a friend of mine passed away....Until last year my friend ignite my photography desire again then one shot pump for DSLR, happy with it as it has retained some nice moments. So until now it just a hobby for me other than the poor gaming life (not so good, it won't develop anything inside of you).

That's my thought...perhaps gone to far.

Initial plan for next target is UWA lens. I like landscape photo.

Dear all sifu, need some advise here....

View back some recent shots with my 50 f1.4D, I found something that scare me… >.<

I realize when I shoot nearer to the subject, the outcome is sharp and nice (refer first photo)
But when I shoot more far from the subject, the outcome is soft, creamy and really cannot for me…it looks like out of focus. (refer 2nd and 3rd)
I am suspecting focus issue on my body but with another kit lens, the outcome is good and acceptable (maybe aperture fix at 3.5 max. don’t give big difference?)
Any sifu here have experience this before might give some advise? Or it is normal??
If there is focus problem on the lens, how much estimate cost me if need to send to service centre?

I think thats normal. try stop down to f2 or f4 when further away. Im amazed that your shooting wide open at bright daylight. at least your copy does not have bad purple fringing like mine smile.gif

Okay la 1/16 is the lowest power. I found another flash around the office and that one doesnt even have power control! you have to balance it with aperture instead, based on the distance scale written on the flash itself laugh.gif

Maybe you can try this:
Shoot with LiveView and compare the result. If the result is different under same shooting setting and lighting condition, you might want to check for Focusing issue.
You can also try shooting using manual focus to compare.

Also check if your lens is dirty, oil marks, etc. If got filter, try removing the filter and shoot.

I know my D90 and D700 AF got hit and miss when focusing to far away distance... should be similar with D800. It will be more accurate if you shoot with cross sensor, compared to the non cross.
