Hi sifu, wonder which is a better buy or bank for buck Asus Rt-AC88u or Rt-AC86u.tq

After reading this, decided to make use of the rtn12hp as repeater today.

Reset the rtn12hp
Connected using LAN at rtn12hp Wan port to laptop
Laptop then connect to rtn12hp wifi
Open browser connect to Asus login
Setup as repeater then connect to working unifi WiFi connection
Setup different ssid name
Then proceed with usual screen by screen setup
Disconnect LAN cable and test
Worked well

If you would have slowly browse past pages, you would see it is the RT-AC86U.

slightly diff procedure due to diff set up... but as long as it works, ok!

actually, i find this repeater thingy not really useful, generally speaking.

assuming a typical environment, comparing most spots at a distance 40-60 feet, direct 5ghz is still best, if the devices can do 5ghz. the repeater is not better.

very much the same with 2.4ghz.

the only scenario where a repeater is useful is at the worst possible hidden spots from main router.

for such spots, and i have one, the repeater on 2.4ghz is useful, does better.

Today suddenly my 2 months old AC86u breakdown.

Only 1 LED lights up at the router.

Try hard reset by holding the Reset button on the back, no response at all.

Power adapter issue or need to send for RMA?

Hi there.. Just bought asus blue cave as my Unifi is now upgraded to 500mbps.

Internet related e.g. browsing, etc is fine. However I am having issues with my hypptv. Saw earlier post users of AC68 has issues with slow LAN port 4 to be ready for hypptv to connect and stream.

I am having the same issue. If I put the hypptv in standby, once I switch it on back, will take close to 1 minute for the LAN symbol with yellow exclamation mark to be OK prior to selecting hypptv.

Appreciate the assistance.

My firmware version is Version 3.0.0.4.384.32948

Hi, I can't even enter the Rescue mode, as even holding the Reset button for a very long time (up to 1 min), it doesn't give any response at all.

Have you tried with other PC/laptop?

You can try resetting the router to default setting and test again, if still same, LAN port 1 not working, then it might be hardware fault.

just fyi, i updated the 1300uhp with this firmware RT-AC58U_9.0.0.4_380_8440-g782ed3e.

works fine.

is there another one coming up soon?

also, i have iced the dir842 as the wifi became unstable too often.

used 1300uhp as main, 12hp as repeater, more stable.

i have a no. of older devices, using 2.4ghz is good enough.

Does anybody knows the tip/connector size of the AC adaptor for the ASUS GT-AC5300?

Not quite sure the exact dimensions but I think it is the same as their laptop. The brick looks similar to Asus laptop too.

yup. I already reset to default setting, test with other laptop m cable, still same. So if it might be hware failure, can I send it to service centre?
