The proper way to setup AiMesh is this.

Setup your RT-AC5300 first, make sure it is running the latest firmware.

Factory reset your RT-AC68U, make sure they are on latest firmware as well. Do not attempt to access it, they have to be on factory reset state.

Go to the we GUI of the RT-AC5300, click AiMesh and Search for routers. You shall see the RT-AC68U listed there.

This was tried. Didn't work. Kindly propose an alternative.

I initialised my 2X RT-AC68U to re-setup AiMesh with the latest firmware. It takes a while to detect the factory reset Asus routers. Initial configuration is conducted over wireless.

I suspect something is not right with the latest firmware as it is taking some time to see my other routers.

I do not have RT-AC5300 with me currently. Need ASUSmy feedback on this matter. RT-AC5300 is a tri band router so it may complicates the situation.

That is how the mesh is setup.

What firmware did the original post used? And its an AC68U not the T Mobile 1900 or other hacks? ASUS is tightening up the hardware verification.

Separate point, the last few ASUS firmware for the AC5300 and AC86U looked rushed. Mesh is still buggy.

Tried the "initialise" method. Still not working.

The latest firmware downloaded from ASUS site.

This is disappointing. Maybe I should have gone with Ubiquiti (even though i have to trunk out an ethernet over the ceiling, but whatever)

AiMesh is a joke.

I find that the stability is not perfect as it is technically on Beta.

It is also not compatible with rebranded RT-AC68U especially those from Taobao.

Sorry to hear that. You should try another alternative, no offense to Asus Malaysia as I am just trying to recommend him options: https://www.lazada.com.my/products/tp-link-...y2kvmG&search=1

Hope you manage to sort it our anyway. Asus is usually really reliable with their networking products.

I can't setup my 3x AiMesh nodes. The GUI say it couldn't find any. I've tried placing the routers next to each other, and also tried to connect via cable WAN-LAN port. Both failed.

AiMesh Router = RT-AC5300

AiMesh Nodes = 3x RT-AC68U

They are all on latest firmware as per your website

Factory reset also cannot solve the issue. Please help.

Hi HuorEarfalas,

May I know is your RT-AC5300 firmware is version 3.0.0.4.384.20648? And your RT-AC68U is version 3.0.0.4.384.20648?

Is the RT-AC5300 2.4GHz and 5GHz are working properly? Is the 2.4Ghz and the 5GHz LED indicator light is turned on?

Thank you

AC5300 = this firmware https://www.asus.com/my/Networking/RT-AC5300/HelpDesk_BIOS/

All 3 AC68U = the latest one from ur website (the support link for it is gone)

AC5300 wifi both 2.4ghz and 5ghz are working well, and are mostly on default settings (i.e. disabled AiProtection, etc etc...)...

I've tried all possible solutions - placing the nodes next to the router / wire the nodes to the router / factory reset / configure AiMesh at router and nodes.... all failed.

I think the Mesh network is still in its infancy with lots of room of improvements. I did consider Deco a while ago, but since TP Link themselves stated Unifi/Maxis/Time are not officially supported, i decided to stay away and give AiMesh a try.

Our house is a 3 storey semi-D with lots of walls. Even with AC5300, it's hard to get a decent wifi signal from the furthest bedroom. Our ethernet ports uses CAT3 cables which only limits bandwidth to 10mbps, which pretty much rules out wired mesh.

I've heard a lot of good stuff with Ubiquiti. It's meant for corporate/enterprise, but its product pricing is within consumer affordability and ease-of-use. Only problem is it must be wired mesh.

Have you ever considered Powerline solutions?

My experience with Powerline have been amazing, a lot more reliable than Mesh solutions currently.

I have some issue with my RT-AC86U's 2.4Ghz band. Whenever I plug a USB3 device into the USB3 slot, my 2.4Ghz wifi will go missing.

I have tried enabling "Reducing USB3.0 Interference" in Wireless Professional tab, which disabled the whole USB3 ports, but to my surprise, my 2.4Ghz wifi is still missing when a device is plugged in. Once I remove the device physically from the port, the 2.4Ghz wifi came back immediately.

Has anyone also seeing this issue? Or is it my HW failure that I should RMA my unit? I am running on the latest FW version released on 12/4/2018 Version 3.0.0.4.384.20648

Hi all,

I have reading some of the above posts about Asus AiMesh. I think I am out of touch. So what is this Mesh system? Sound to me like it is old tech with new name. In the past to extend wifi coverage, I used to plug in an access point into the LAN with a network cable. Later for spots without a network point I would use a repeater.

So it seem to me the Mesh system is also using these ways. What's the new tech in Mesh system that has advantages over the old ways?

Mesh in theory allows the node to connect to another node as an auto fallback. AP mode essentially is point to point. WDS (or a variation in its implementations as in Airports for years now) is still effectively point to point with seamless roaming.

Ubiquiti can be setup in wireless mesh mode. Via wireless link.

Oh sorry... i meant WAP blush.gif

Changing ethernet RJ45 socket is easy. Replacing the cables inside the walls from CAT3 to CAT5/5e/6 is difficult with lots of civil works.

I've tested the ASUS RT-N800HP and I amazed with its wireless performance. This is my review of the router. The router suitable for those who are using wireless (+coverage) than wired connectivity.

@ASUSmy

I manage to get my RT-AC86U, to run my vpn properly, after I flashed Merlin.

I might eventually switch back to stock.

Anyhow, I did some light stress test, speedtest, light torrenting, netflix running. And after just 10 minute I observe the following.

Temperatures = 2.4 GHz: 57°C - 5 GHz: 61°C - CPU: 83°C

Is 83 degrees celsius normal temperature?

CPU Load Average (1, 5, 15 mins) = 3.27, 3.42, 3.55

The CPU cores, 1 and 2 I saw only went up to 20-30% highest.
